Summary:

  • We are drawn to people with fallible traits because it is familiar to what we experience in childhood.

  • If someone is boring it means they are "unlikely to make me suffer in the way I need to suffer in order to feel that love is real."

  • We prefer to readjust the way we interact with a partner who hurts us instead of pragmatically just finding someone who doesn't conflict.

I'll admit that this video is pretty condescending. The whole time while watching it I was wondering what dysfunction existed in my childhood that made me attracted to certain people. And there really isn't any dysfunction. And the conflicts in my relationship are unlike any conflicts I dealt with in childhood.

So I suppose this is just a launching point of discussion. How do you think the 'templates' of childhood affect our relationships?
