I understand where you are coming from with this texting advice, however, texting technique is completely dependent on your current relation with the girl. If you have already build a lot of rapport, gone out with the girl a few times, and have shared a significant amount of time together, texting will help you to keep you in her conscious thoughts. This, however, is entering into the realm of relationship building, which is not necessarily the same as attraction building.
A PUA will tell you this: text minimally, and only text to set plans. PUAs claim this creates intrigue.
PUAs do tell you to text minimally, but I am not aware that this is the reason for that. Keeping texting very brief has many points, but there are two main ones:
1) you can not establish emotional connection through text messaging. This is by far the biggest point. You may be able to elicit previous emotional memories from the girl by texting her, but building new emotional memories via text is very ineffective. If a girl can not physically experience you in person (voice tonality, eye contact, physical touch, shared experiences, etc), she can not effectively build an emotional connection to you.
2) Texting can yield small gains, but can yield massive losses. Girls dont build a lot of attraction towards you if you text her the perfect message, but girls certainly get turned off if you say the wrong thing. Keeping it simple minimizes your chances of fucking things up because she interpreted your seemingly playful text message the wrong way. Even if you are the most empathetic person on earth, you can not control or completely identify the emotional state of a girl via text.
Everyone has there own experiences when it comes to texting. Personally, I dont really see the point of longer conversations, as the merits of texting are straight up trumped by building better rapport and getting better logistics. If texting works for you, use it. If you dont know if texting is for you, I dont recommend it.

The small gains and massive losses part is really essential for people to realize.

This post illustrates a big problem with the PUA/seduction thing. You are trying to give people rules. There are no fucking rules. Texting is literally a case-by-case thing. How much and what you should text somebody is completely dependent on the nature of your relationship with her, how long you've known her, how much interest she's shown in you, how much interest you've shown in her, the kind of person she is, the kind of person you are, how hot she is, whether you've fucked her, etc... You have to feel it out on a case by case basis.
All that said, it is GENERALLY better to keep texting to logistics. Too many guys fuck up every day texting and end up looking needy, looking corny, etc... My strategy is to control the interaction by telling her when I'll text her. When I meet her, I say "it was great to meet you, I'll text you this week for drinks." And then at drinks I say "ok, I'll text tomorrow to go to a concert," etc... That way, if I don't text for a while, I don't look distant, I just am doing what I said I would do.

Date reminder. LOL
[–]Captain_Unremarkable 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Considering how often men are afraid to call a date a date, it must be refreshing for women. It's confident and direct; it says "I'm sexually attracted to you. What of it?"
[–]Phenxz 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't though. Seddit needs to stop generalising women like everyone is the same, as HappyJerk pointed out, every date and person we attract is an individual being and a case-by-case basis. Every person on Earth (not just women) interpret the things we communicate differently, based on their previous environments and experiences. One girl may very well find a date reminder confident and direct. Another might very well find it bit annoying and a sign of insecurity... Text messages are especially prone to liberal interpretation, as there are no non-verbal cues to help the interpretation of the communication.
Anyways, my point being, you are right, but also neglecting the cases where it is not right, and we need to stop acting like there's a magic formula that every woman responds to. Every person is different.
[–]jacobman 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Every person is different.
Which is fine when you've got a solid clue that she is different in some way. Until then, the only thing that makes sense is to treat all women the same...
[–]Phenxz 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My point wasn't how to treat them, my point was to stop the expectation that every woman will find the same behavior to signal either confidence of insecurity. It's all relative to quote a famous someone... The way I communicate, you communicate and whoever else communicates their being and game is ofcourse how it is, nomatter what girl is the target. But the way we communicate ourselves is interpreted differently from girl to girl, so we need to stop expecting every girl to fall for something special or find something specific attractive. It's not about the way we communicate, but that we shouldn't expect it to be received in a particular way,a s that is arbitrary

It comes off needy when you remind a girl about a date.
[–]heretogetbetter-10 points 12 years ago [recovered] (20 children) | Copy Link
That is so impersonal. Say something like "I can't wait for our date tomorrow..." or "Hey, just checking, are we on for..." What you wrote was adequate didn't show any enthusiasm on your part.
[–]HappyJerk 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
"I can't wait" is extremely strong language. Girls overanalyze.everything you say so if you text that they will think that you literally cannot wait and the rest of your life is a shitty waiting room till she gets there. More likely the girl will know you are full of shit and you probably could wait, so now you're back in the same shitbucket as all the other guys who say exaggerated shit they don't mean and she doesn't trust.
[–]heretogetbetter3 points 12 years ago [recovered] (18 children) | Copy Link
If it isn't true then don't text that. But some guys are excited to see a specific woman. That excitement translates into appreciation and respect for the woman. I've texted "Can't wait for tonight!" and I usually get back a "Me too!" or "Aww that's so sweet :)". And girls get texts from their friends and have their own lives, I doubt they are spending any significant time analyzing one text from a guy.
[–]xxruruxx 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I feel like your post is really applicable for people in college. It's the appropriate way to go about texting if you're in a high social environment (or if you're just a very social person). And honestly, it's the most natural.
Other comments that say that girls overanalyze, well, it's really overanalytical to be hung up on "excited to see you." Its positive, and Ill probably wake up a but earlier to spend more time getting ready.
It's hard to give advice in this subreddit because we're all looking for different things. Some people want to pick up girls at a bar and take them home. Others want a relationship. That being said, your post is pretty good advice if you're looking for a quality girl to actually get to know, if you're social to begin with, and if you're relatively young.
[–]HappyJerk 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
But some guys are excited to see a specific woman.
"I can't wait" is a crazy thing to say, unless you've been dating her for a looooooong time.
Also, just because she reciprocates your enthusiasm now doesn't mean she always will. Texting her shit like "I can't wait" and "Thinking of you" puts you at a disadvantage and she may still hang out with you, but if the balance shifts she will know that you are obsessed with her.
[–]lionseatcake -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
I think too many of you are on a power trip hahaha. For god's sake pussy is not that important. It's just pussy. It comes and it goes. Man. Do some people really have to work so hard to get laid that it comes down to people like this guy acting like he can predict individual behavior based on his own experience? hahahah so fucking stupid and obsessed.
[–]bestyoloqueuer -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
Some people don't have to work at all to get pussy, some have to work hard and some can work hard and still not get any. Is that a surprise to you?
[–]lionseatcake 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
I wouldn't say surprised. It's just silly how so many guys are like, "No, see, you do this this and THEN this to get laid" or "Oh, yeah, you see, you didn't get laid because you didn't neg, escalate, neg, high five, shoulder rub, X, X, Triangle, Hold R1 and R2 while pressing start, god what a rookie"
Just say and do whatever the fuck you want and quit changing yourself in hopes of getting some pussy. Fucking evolve.

Triangle, triangle, X, X, O, Hold R1, Up, down, Release R1 fuck i released too early, guess i'm not getting laid tonight

(I'm still amazed by how one of his super sex-negative comments got SO MANY upvotes not long ago.)
Honestly, this subreddit is so fucking weird. I swear people get upvotes for the most ridiculous shit. I mean, it's nice that dudes like HappyJerk, lazerf0cus, and social_scrying are here to point out what a unhelpful post this is, but the fact remains that this post currently has around 100 upvotes. Texting is one of the least emotionally stimulating, context-less forms of communication and should be reserved mostly for logistics.

I never tell a woman I will text her because I don't want to bind myself to texting her. Also, it is not about where you are but where you want to be. If you want a relationship, text as if you are in a relationship. That way it feels like the two of you are further along than you may be in reality. And as long as you don't text more than twice in a row, it is hard to mess it up. She's texting back, so she must be interested.
[–]HappyJerk 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I disagree that you should text like you're in a relationship to "push things along." You will look needy.
[–]heretogetbetter-1 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
It looks needy if you send 5 texts in a row without a response. But if you are getting responses for each text you send, then the level of enthusiasm is equal for both you and her.
[–]jacobman 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The number of messages exchanged is not even close to the major deciding factor of if the enthusiasm is equal. The length, tone, and content are much more important.

With that said, that doesn't mean just be an asshole and don't respond when she sends you a message such as "So how was your day??:)"
You cut off the interaction when you feel it's necessary. Not every text requires a response.
For example, last night I was texting to see if a girl wanted to join me and play some soccer together. I said: "Hey, hope your week has been less hectic than mine so far! I'm heading to the soccer fields to destress tomorrow night at 9, you should join me"
She said "I'd love to! But I'll have to let you know though since I have a lot of work to catch up on".
I responded with "That's fine, good luck!"
And lastly, she responds with "Sounds good. Thanks!:)"
That's the type of text that doesn't generally require a response (as opposed to some guys who might say "Perfect. And no problem!:)"). That way, you obtain some closure knowing that she responded last.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with /u/laserf0cus here. For the most part OP is correct but emotion can't be perceived through text. So you could mean a light-hearted hello by saying thinking of you, but there's a good chance she's gonna pick that up as you're some creepy weirdo with nothing better to do.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah that's simply the nature of the game in 2014.
[–]heretogetbetter-2 points 12 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
The point is to show empathy. You are empathetic to her, to her ambitions, and to her pursuits. You are a positive influence in her life and someone who will support her. It takes next to no effort to send her a positive, encouraging text. And for her it will go a long way. It also shows you are selfless and willing to go out of your way to make sure she succeeds.
[–][deleted] 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[–]heretogetbetter-3 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
I think it shows more that you are making an effort and you are interested in her. Honestly, I think PUA do minimal texting is because they have a hard time managing dozens of girls numbers in their phones.
[–]shakedown_st 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So I talk to a girl for 20 minutes, get her number, ask her out on a date, and now I have to be selfless, go out of my way, show empathy, and "making sure she succeeds" before I even really get to know her?
No. In fact, I would say this is kind of creepy. I have to echo all the other comments in this thread in that this is a bad approach for girls you meet. A girl you are in a relationship with? Maybe then.

The extent of my texting:
"Hey! A couple of us are planning to _____, you should come!"
"Wanna get together this _____ for ____?"
Etc.

Is it just me or is texting kind of redundant? Where I'm from, it's usually just messaging each other back and forth on Facebook/WhatsApp/Snapchat (which goes against the "rules" of texting as this could go on for hours if she's receptive).
Texting is just used to set up dates and stuff like "I'm gonna be late", "You should join us at X!", or whatever. Besides not a lot of people are on contract here, so texting wouldn't really work if one party ran out of credit.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nah pretty much 3/4 of the people my age use credit (19 y/o, college students). The ones with a contract are the "rich" kids with iPhones or older guys. I know that this isn't the norm, but that's how it is over here.
[–]Spore2012 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
TL;DR Texting is a tool to be used mainly only for specific reasons.
A- If it's too loud for either of you to talk or hear.
B- If it's too quiet for either of you to talk.
C- If you can't talk and just leave a note/message to talk later.
D- If you are sending pics or jokes or random stuff at each other all day (like a facebook, AIM convo or something)
Texting is for the weak.
Everytime you think about texting, all you have to do is ask yourself this question: "Would I call her to talk about this? Is it worth calling her about?" Basically if your short quip or whatever would be awkward and unwarranted in a phone call, then don't text it. Save it all up, and call her about it all at once later.
[–]pertichor 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I wouldn't call a girl to tell a joke. I find your advice contradictory.
[–]Spore2012 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is my point. But for example if she and you are texting jokes and stuff throughout the day at work or something.
[–]Beiber_h0le69 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I always found that often times if you want to hook up with a girl you gotta put in the work during the week to hook up with them on the weekend. Ill text a girl during the week to setup plans and talk to em. I've found that it shows you're interested in them and potentially want something more than just hooking up which they like, even if all you do is hookup. I don't know what you guys feel about it.

my texting game is awful, i guess i send texts that uninteresting or text that are plain boring, because I get texts that either are one word phrases or like shes drunk texting me. I guess the same goes if I'm okcupid.com but your trying to move on to getting her number.

If you have to confirm a date you didn't close properly.
Texting is a waste of time and you should rarely do it with a girl. Sure it works for some guys, but I prefer to save all my conversation for when we're together in real life, it makes for more interesting dates...
You call a girl once a week to setup a date (time, date, location) 4 days in advance. Girls worth your time will remember the date you set and will usually text you to confirm (or cancel/not show) 3-4 hours before the date. That's the typical process.
I wish there'd be a guide on how to get a girl who you've approached in the day to respond to your first text lol
