What pisses me off are people who paint all porn as misogynistic. They clearly don't know what they are talking about. Massive amounts of porn show the woman in control, and the man being humiliated, dominated etc. There's genres and genres of this stuff: CFNM, femdom, guys being spanked by women, guys being fucked by women with strap-ons, guys stripping for women, women sitting on men's faces etc. if you look at www.clips4sale.com, where there are litterally hundreds of porn sites listed, you can see that most of the most popular ones involve some elements of female domination.

Those who consider porn to be exploitative of women are hypocritical. That claim is discriminatory, often coming from the same group that screams "our bodies, our choice" when they want to support abortion.

If "our bodies, our choice" is a real, genuine belief, then we also have the right to choose to get paid for showing them off.

It's one thing to condemn human trafficking, and every product that comes out of that.

It's wholly another thing for these people to condemn the employers and patrons of women who choose to capitalize on possessing qualities at which others want to look.

Few things show the hypocrisy of the feminist mindset better than the assertion that when a woman wants to end a life other than her own, it's her choice because it resides in her body, but when a woman wants to make a profit, it's not her choice even though she wants to use her own body to do that.

To be fair most people are condoning porn based on the fact that it's porn, they may not have a vast knowledge of it or all the different styles but they aren't offering constructive criticism, they just don't want there to be porn.

This isn't someone saying "I don't like these parts of this medium and think they should be changed" it's someone saying "I think this is bad because of this basic fact of what it is" they don't need to know much to do the latter. Still dumb but not for that reason.

I believe I am suffering from a porn addiction so have made a conscious choice to remove porn from my life.

That being said, I do not fight against pornography in general any more than a recovering alcoholic fights against people consuming alchohol. If there's evidence that men/women are being abused or forced to do it against their will, let's fight that. I don't think kids should be exposed to it at an early age, but that's a different point.

But if it's a business following all the laws and the actors/actresses are above 18 and doing everything consentually, what's the problem?

Any idiot that is fighting against porn under the cloak of "it's mishoginayyy" is simply fighting their competition. A lot of women have priced themselves out of the market by demanding more and more while giving less and less. And I'm not talking about anal sex here. These same twits probably read "50 Shades of Gray" and enjoy the dopamine kick just like any other porn addict enjoying something finely tuned to their sexual impulses. The only difference is their porn is being mass-promoted by the media and sold in Walmart next to the rest of the competing fema-porn as well as the children's books.

It could also be a sense of male-bashing under the idea that "somewhere, somehow a man is enjoying himself sexually with no woman involved. We best do something about that."

I'm not convinced. You seem to be saying that persons who don't watch porn have no right to express a view about it.

Just because someone doesn't watch porn, however, doesn't mean they have no right to speak about it. If we generalise, no one could speak about any institutional practice which they don't practise. It would follow, then, that I could not condemn wars unless I fight in them, or that I could not express a view on the merits of robbing banks unless I am a practising bank robber.

I hope you will agree these conclusions are absurd and that the general principle behind them ought to be resigned.

It's called desensitisation. As porn has become more ubiquitous and easy to access produces have had to keep pushing the envelope in order to keep people interested. It has nothing to do with female involvement.

I find it really telling when someone speaks out against the objectification of women in pornography, yet somehow manage to miss the fact that the male porn actors are objectified as well.

Seriously, they are reduced to penises with legs, sometimes arms. Of course, their bodies are waxed and well toned, tanned and muscled. He'll have the strength to lift her up, and the stamina to go for hours on end. And the length of his shaft? If it's anything less than average plus fifty percent, it's considered small.

A man in porn is arguably more objectified than a woman in porn, especially considering he is usually not allowed to have a face, or even a voice. Any time there is ever a camera shot of his head, or you hear him grunt you can expect commentors to go crazy with disgust. His service is to be a sex object for the woman, not to be a person.

In conclusion, are women and men objectified in porn? You fucking bet they are. And that's okay, because it's the point. The participants are overly sexualized, and that's what they are there for.

I use to think that porn was mostly a job that people did because it was lucrative. I then saw porn with a brief interview of the actors after they did their thing and they talk about it with each other affectionately and how much they enjoyed it. The porn itself was some dom/sub stuff.

In the end, sex on film is simply something that adults do because they are attractive, get paid to do it, and arnt coerced into doing it. I'm sure there is porn out there that doesnt have a happy background but that isnt the norm or looked well upon from any side of my monitor.

Not comparing, and I'm certainly not saying porn is wrong - but there is nothing preventing people from having a valid opinion about something, just because they don't do it themselves. The problem with the feminist argument against porn isn't that they don't watch porn - that's irrelevant - it's that the argument is illogical and based on faulty and made-up evidence that directly contradicts all serious, unbiased research and fact, as well as passes judgment on the motivations of the porn-watchers, which they of course have no knowledge about.

It's actually really not as simple as shutting the fuck up about it. And it's exactly that kind of attitude that makes people who are anti-pornography not able to shut the fuck up about it. Using pornography doesn't only affect the person consuming the porn, especially if they are in a relationship. If a man ( or woman ) was a smoker, and they smoked inside of the home, and the other people in the home were not smokers and begged the person to stop or do it outside of the home because the second hand smoke was affecting their health would you say that an appropriate response was "shut the fuck up about it, you're not the one smoking? I know so much more about smoking than you?"

Also, women ridicule female pornstars and often judge them, but they still do it. Why? I agree to some extent. Not all porn is exploitative and misogynistic. One of the feminists I admire is a porn star that frequently writes about her experiences in porn and in her normal life. I've never heard of people attributing misogyny or exploitation of women to gay porn.

I'm just not sure what you meant by the increasing power of women in porn making it harsher. It seems to have more with pushing the envelope and creating more extreme genres. Soft core and less harsh styles still exist and you can find videos for practically anything you like.
