I fucking love how John Stewart handled this. He called her out on the fact that women are 51% of the vote, he bashed the audience for its double standard humor, and did everything that I would have wanted to do if I was in that situation.

He didn't attack the gender wage gap, but even for a smart host like Jon Stewart, it'd be hard to convince the audience of that one (having to reference statistics and all).

10/10 interview.

Her rhetoric is typical drive by shooting that women's ails are due to the men on Congress and it has nothing to do with the women voting them in or the women in Congress that also disagree on what is an almost universally contentious issue.

I enjoy Jon Stewart because he calls everybody on their prejudice and lazy thinking (like the hilarious bit on Democrat 'inclusion'), but I want to point out to the OP and others in this thread that misandry is overused in /menrights - Gillibrand was not saying anything hateful about men. Sexist perhaps, but not hateful.

Same logic. Her underlying assumption is that everything women want or demand is automatically legitimate, no debate required.

So ridiculous.

If we had 51% women in the senate we wouldn't be debating birth control. We'd be passing laws that strengthened Title IX, strengthened VAWA, and making initiatives to ensure that women have not only every opportunity but every legal advantage possible.

If it isn't one thing, it's the other. and maybe it wouldn't be BC for women. But that doesn't mean issues would be so much better.

It's hard for me to think about the fact that these people are well regarded in any circle.

Am I the only one who thought that John Stewart didn't do enough. He actively participated in the wage gap myth. Then BARELY, spoke up like a calm whisper, when if it were any other guy he disagreed with he would have been arguing fervently. I honestly lost some respect for the guy. I mean Kudos to saying something. But by and large I think he's just as in the pocket of feminists as any other figurehead.

She at least was coming from good place but I think how she worded was poor and does sound very sexist. But I agree that there does need to be more female representation in politics in terms of actual people since women's issues are generally the only gender issues discussed. So in short I believe we need more women representatives but men's issues need to be given more attention then they have now.
