hey guys, i'm kinda new here so if this isn't a good place to post a non-news article of this nature i'll remove it. i just felt, given the recent set of posts, this would be an ideal time to get this off my chest.

Fairly bitter post coming up, so take it with a grain of salt;

basically, for as long as i could remember my mom was always obsessed with feminism and the struggle for women's rights, and as early as 5-years-old i can remember her giving me lectures on the struggles that females have faced since the dawn of time (lower pay, gender restrictions etc), the threats and potential threats they face in the form of sexual harassment, rape, the struggles in the middle east etc.. As a young naive kid, these stories of oppression made me extremely paranoid about offending or hurting women, and i always felt like it was on me to prove that i wasn't an ignorant, prejudiced male in the eyes of women.

As a result of this warped view, I became an angel in the eyes of all the jaded soccer moms in my town, but i really didn't have any female friends at all (i think you can probably figure out why). As a stupid little kid, this really confused me; I did virtually everything in my power to treat girls with the utmost respect, why didn't they like me or want to hang out with me? Well, at first I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal, I'd just have boys as friends for the rest of my life, or at least until those girls realized how nice i was!

Yea well, then comes puberty; suddenly, these feelings of wanting to be the perfect gentlemen are now clashing with feelings of wanting to see these girls naked, wanted to put my cock in them, wanting to do things that i once thought disgusting acts of barbaric proportions. it was around this time that serious depression, frustration, and above all confusion set in. i didn't know what to do or feel, i just felt like a huge asshole that had to do everything in his power to suppress his most primal urges.

And in my mind, it always seems to come back to my mom. My mom who thought nothing of instilling in me this belief that it was my responsibility to right all the wrongs that women face in this world. My mom who never once questioned the fact that i never came close to having a girlfriend, never came close to having female friendship of any kind. I guess as long as i wasn't out raping or assaulting girls, i had a healthy relationship with them in her eyes, end of story.

I now sit here a 22-year-old male, with just as much companionship and sexual experience with girls as i had when i was 5-years-old. Honestly i never really gave much thought to what role my mom played in this until recently. One night, we were sitting around watching America's Funniest Home Videos, when a video came on showing a girl slipping and falling in the snow. I'm not sure why but the absurdity of it being caught on tape just made me laugh pretty hard, and my mom's response to it was 'oh jeez, is seeing that happen to her really that funny? Maybe this is why you've never been with a girl...'. I didn't say anything, but hearing her say that really upset me, and thinking back i feel like things like this have played a huge part in the shaping of my warped mindset.

i really don't know what to say.....i guess i'd like to apologize to all of the people i know who have advocated for men's rights in society. for so long i have held their words and opinions in such contempt in my feminist mindset, only to realize that more often than not, it is THEY who have had my own best interests in mind.

Does anyone else feel like they had a similar upbringing to mine? if so, how did you recognize it and change? how do you reconcile all of this? Again, if a lengthy post of this nature is inappropriate for this place, I'll gladly remove it.
