What they mean is that a sun roof's only function is to open. It's a more or less regular piece of car roof that can open to let the sun in. Like a mini convertable. A moonroof is where that part of the roof is made with glass instead.

In my 05 Acura it's is called a sunroof and it's made with glass and opens. I think any distinction between sunroof/moonroof has kinda eroded over the years.

Most people would say that a sunroof is a glass panel that pops up to help airflow, while a moonroof is also a glass panel that can do the same but can also slide back to allow even more airflow

This is completely not correct. I sold cars. The sunroof can be tilted up, in some cases pulled out, but a moonroof slides into the roof and opens completely and normally electric.

I'm amazed at how many people here are failing at something so easily Googleable.

The main difference was a sunroof was not transparent but a removable panel so you only open it on sunny days. You could look through the closed moonroof at night though.

Yeah, the sunroof moonroof distinction was mostly for FACTORY installed roof options. Those other shitty non full sliding tilt ones were often shitty leaky JC Whitney type self-installed ones that required an idiot to sawz-all or chainsaw a homemade hole in the roof. (though ASC and the like made aftermarket factory style ones too; but only factory installed ones met government roll-over roof safety standards)

They are basically interchangeable terms now.

Originally "sunroofs" were opaque removable panels, while "moonroofs" were transparent sliding/tilting nonremovable versions of sunroofs.

But if you hear someone say sunroof, 99% chance it is also a moonroof. They dont make opaque sunroofs anymore

Apparently everyone has different def for a sunroof and moonroof.

I was always sure a sunroof is like in older cars with an opening in the roof with no glass. It was just opened to the air or closed.

Then carmakers put glass in them and now you could have it closed, or open like a sunroof, but you could also just slide the headliner back and have a glass window above you.

Now they have full length moonroofs and all sorts of stuff.

I'm in the auto industry. A sunroof is small and typically what you'd see in a Charger. "Lunar roofs", are the very large ones that you can see in vehicles like the Pacifica, where it's almost the entire roof.

It's a bit much but I also can't feel any sympathy for her. She did a poor job gauging his reaction and because of it she suffered the consequences. She should have waited for a time when he wasn't around. Or better yet, just had the decency to not do it in the first place.
