One report indicates that she was an eighth-grade teacher at the time of the arrest. This would make the pupil 13 or 14 yo. I would call this pedophilia. And this is not some 19 yo substitute teacher from your fantasies messing around with a 17 yo student. Have you looked at the pictures? The lizard neck? I have mixed feelings about this. How old was the student? If he was 16 or 17, that's a whole lot different than 12 or 13. The age of consent in Texas is 17, and in some states it's even 16. I'm NOT saying what she did was okay. Yes, she is a predator, but technically not a pedophile. We get so wrapped up in crime and punishment we fail to see nuance. If a student is of legal age the teacher should just be fired, not go to prison.

When I was in highschool I would have loved to have sex with a teacher. What young man hasn't fantasized about that, come on! But I'm glad it didn't happen, because it would have robbed me of losing my virginity the right way, naturally. I've always loved older women, and couldn't wait until I turned 18 so I would be legal.

I find it a bit comical how 16 and 17 is seen as so radically different from 18, where all three are ages of consent in various states and countries. At 16 I had a man's body with chest hair. Sure I wasn't fully emotionally mature yet, but I knew what I wanted. I think we infantilize young adults too much. If you REALLY want to talk about maturity, the brain doesn't fully stop developing until 25 years of age. Should THAT then be the age of consent?

Very true about wanting that to happen until it did. When I was in hs, starting at 14. I was cool with a older woman outside of school. She touched me numerous times and would speak to me about a lot shit she gone thru. To me, I felt "good". At some point, even took my virginity before 18. Took years later, especially as I have my own family, to realize how much she damaged me in the long run. Not worth it at all. Right before I met my wife years ago, I made a visit and she was so reserved. Didn't wanna be touchy or anything. That's when everything clicked for me.

This double standard shit needs to seriously be checked. This teacher should be punished harshly as a male teacher too. Society sucks ass.
