TLDR: my wife wants a divorce, two kids (aged 6 and 3,) she hasn't worked in 6 years, but just got a job today. I wanted to make it work, but she says I'm too focused on work and isn't willing to work through it. Eight month old dream house that I want to keep. Needing advice.

So, we got into a regular, infrequent argument on New Year's Eve, which resulted in her telling me she wanted a divorce. I cried for days, which she was aware of. She has been a stay-at-home Mom for the past 6 years, and I've always been the bread-winner.

Today, after 6 weeks of no fights, getting along, and me working on my issues she stated, she was told me she found a job. My stomach sank as I listened to her explain what she would be doing. When she finished explaining, I asked, "So you still want a divorce?"

She questioned if she had given me any reason to think otherwise. I thought we were doing okay, not great, but working towards something that we could improve on.

We are both 33 years old, and have been together since we were 19/20, and married at 21. Two kids; a nearly-six-year-old son, and a three-year-old daughter. We're in Texas, and plan on staying here for life.

She says the biggest problem is that I'm addicted to work, and she isn't wrong. She says she'll never be my #1 priority in life, which I replied, "yeah, the kids will always be #1." I guess that was the wrong answer.

Anyways, I've worked my absolute fucking ass off to get to where I am, professionally. We just moved into our dream home in June of 2021; I want to keep it. It's WAY too much for a single dad, but I'm in love with it, and it's still absolutely perfect for my kids. They have a game room, a media room, and are within CLOSE walking distance to their elementary and middle schools. I think my wife would let me keep the house, but it's already appraised at almost $200k over what I signed for in June. She may just want the money.

It should be a very amicable split, even though I'm not on board with it. She says she doesn't want anything, but she's going to be working from scratch with a minimum wage job and two kids in tow.

I really don't give a fuck; as long as the kids are okay when we have that conversation with them, then it's great. But, ideally, I want to keep the house, which both of our names are on.

I'm just curious on hearing other peoples' experiences, and wondering what to expect for child support in Texas.
