Recently there was an article I read about abuse and harassment on social media that women, particularly celebrity women, have to endure and that Instagram does nothing about it. I made the comment that if your account is open to everyone you should expect a broad spectrum of comments from the public. If you don't like it then close your account to only accept friends and family. I immediately got shredded for victim blaming. One woman even accused me of probably being a perpetrator and I was just bitter. One woman claimed she doesn't post anything overly sexual but still gets creeps. Of course I looked at her Facebook profile and she had numerous butt shots in yoga pants while she was at the gym. It was obvious to me that all these people were seeking validation and don't like the thought of having a private account because then it would limit the praise that they seek. What are your thoughts? Is it reasonable to expect polite behavior from 100% of the public rather than closing up your social media account to only allow trusted individuals to have access to it?
