So my GF and I were partying last night with another couple who we are pretty close with. Drinks were flowing, good food, music was playing, everyone was dancing and having a good time etc etc. We were taking turns playing music and my GF puts on Enrique Iglesias because he is her absolute favourite - not my cup of tea but it was her turn!

Anyway, my GF goes on to express how much she loved Enrique when she was younger. I've heard the stories before but I was happy to hear her share them again because it's cute as - she sent him a love letter on at least one occasion and would kiss the TV when he was on screen haha.

Everyone was laughing (with her, not at her) and then I wanted to keep that mood going and asked: do you know who my first love was?

My question was immediately met with hostility: "why would you want to tell her (my GF) that?" (this was coming from the other female in our group.)

I was taken aback and couldn't really understand the accusatory tone or why it wasn't obvious why I was keeping the theme of the conversation going.

At this point my GF was interested to know but our friend wouldn't drop her line of questioning. "Why would you want to hurt her by telling her that?" was another one.

I became a bit pissed off to be honest so I explained that my GF had just told everyone who her first love was and I was going to do the same. I was then told "it's different". I think she was expecting me to speak about some childhood sweetheart, but even so, I know my girlfriend well enough to navigate a conversation like that. I certainly didn't need some third party warning me about what was and wasn't acceptable, or attempting to chastise me.

I was also told that I was only wanting to share my story in "revenge". As if I had been jealously offended by my girlfriend talking about Enrique Iglesias hahaha. Wtf.

My GF was still really curious to know who it was but unfortunately the vibe had been ruined and I wasn't going to finish my story. I just wanted to go home.

I was 9 and she was the lead singer from the pop group Aqua, by the way - for anyone who doesn't think I'm a complete monster.
