Well, that was remarkably reasonable and level-headed, a real breath of fresh air after having seen that absolute shitshow of a Twitter thread. The Twitter mob was very unfair piling on Alexandra Hunt, accusing her of promoting patriarchy/rape/state-mandated girlfriends or something ludicrous. That's how things are, unfortunately, if a woman brings up an issue affecting men, male sexlessness in this instance, the accusations of internalized misogyny will not be far behind.

Anyhow, good of you for posting this. I'm looking forward to hearing this interview.

Netherlands subsidizes sex workers for disable people. So there is some sort of recognization that it is needed.

This was a good video. Kyle isn't perfect when it comes to gender issues IMHO but I'd be hard pressed to name anyone better who has as high a profile (and who doesn't specifically focus on gender). Krystal is probably pretty good too given her general approach to political issues but I haven't heard her talk much about gender specifically (outside of this vid) to know for sure.

It's refreshing to hear their takes, given that there are quite a few on the genuinely left side of the spectrum (like Noam Chomsky and Chris Hedges) who take a strong 'patriarchal feminist' stance on gender issues, despite being otherwise pretty insightful in their social analysis.

"what societal structures would help... feel like putting themselves out there...and have a chance of success"..."it's an amalgamation of systemic, economic, social, and cultural factors" but then they don't go into what those factors are besides job market and housing.

I think also people should not be so hateful of people who are affected by things like a poor job market, have to live with their parents, that sort of stuff. The problem has two sides: that people have to live like that, but also that it's seen so negatively.

What are the social and cultural factors? Porn was brought up but also dismissed so they end up not touching it. I think there is also:

the food industry/obesity epidemic combined with the hatred of fat people
overabundance of choice for women provided by online dating
Increased animosity towards others from the increasing divisiveness created by online discourse, urbanisation and car-centric cities
Vilification of men and fear mongering (this one's on feminism)
Related to 2) 3) 4), quicker dismissals of people before knowing them
