Sniff sniff....I smell some bias.

UK:Mother-of-three, 28, who groomed a 15-year-old boy into a sexual relationship after plying him with cannabis and alcohol is spared jail

bias? nah. this is totally believable:

UK:Father-of-three, 28, who groomed a 15-year-old girl into a sexual relationship after plying her with cannabis and alcohol is spared jail

Of course, that headline would be more like:

UK:Father-of-three, 28, who groomed a 15-year-old girl into a sexual relationship and repeatedly raped her after plying her with cannabis and alcohol drugging her is spared jail sentenced to life without parole.

Sad but true. No child should ever be abused in any way. But if the genders were reversed your statement would be on point.

Some bias?

https://www.thefactual.com/blog/is-the-daily-mail-reliable/

The daily mail is trash but much loved in this sub.

[–]IANVS 80 points81 points82 points 3 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Mainstream media never reports on shit like this and actively avoids portraying women in bad light...

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -65 points-64 points-63 points 3 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

That doesn’t change this being a poor source.

Edit: Spreading misinformation isn’t how you solve lack of information.

[–]IANVS 45 points46 points47 points 3 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Unless this article is fake news, you are generalizing here...

It’s not generalizing to say that the source is known and proven to be a poor source for factual information therefore this article should be expected to be a poor source for factual information.

[–]grump63 27 points28 points29 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Nah thats like the definition of generalizing

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -8 points-7 points-6 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No. It’s logic.

[–]grump63 29 points30 points31 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm not trying to argue with you.

You made the claim that the daily mail is not credible. (I agree) Thus, you're inferring that everything they put out is misinformation. (That's a generalization)

Won't reply any further.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -7 points-6 points-5 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

No it’s not. Venn Diagram it.

[–]equalRights111 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It’s also not generalising to say that a random Redditor is less reliable than a newspaper. Why should we listen to you over the Daily Mail?

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You don’t have to care about my track record at all to feel that averaging 40% on facts makes the daily mail unreliable.

[–]equalRights111 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Certainly higher than your track record at the moment though… Would it be fair to say the same about you?

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

However you feel about me is irrelevant. Daily mail is still trash and you are here arguing for the continued spread of the source of trash. What does that say about you? Historically, the people pushing for the spread of false information are the baddies. Keep that in mind.

[–]ASexualSloth 27 points28 points29 points 3 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I'm confused. What does this have to do with the story? Is any of what it reported verifiably false?

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -24 points-23 points-22 points 3 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

It tells me, without reading the story, that the source of this story isn’t reliable. Averaging around 40% factual makes these posts worthless. Unfortunately, in this sub, they’ll still be upvoted and circlejerked without question.

[–]ASexualSloth 32 points33 points34 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So you don't care at all about the story content, you just want to voice your opinion on an outlets inaccuracies. Good for you.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not from this source, and thanks.

[–]XavierMalory 34 points35 points36 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No, averaging about 40% factual makes the Daily Mail worthless.

A quick google search about this woman would give you the same story from several other sources.

Here’s one for free: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/ramsgate-woman-avoids-jail-after-having-sex-with-underage-boy/ar-AA16nH7I

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -17 points-16 points-15 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Being able to find the same information with other sources doesn’t change the fact they are known to average 40% when it comes to facts.

[–]denisc9918 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So 60% avg factually correct... Sounds like every other main stream outlet.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

It does sound a lot like the others. We should be viewing all the articles we see posted critically. Also 40%

[–]equalRights111 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In other words, you agree that this particular story is true or likely to be true.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -6 points-5 points-4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No. No need to put words in my mouth. I would agree that this story most likely contains aspects of misinformation.

[–]XavierMalory 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I didn’t say that. Reread my post.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I read it. Them averaging 40% factual devalues everything they put out, not their name alone.

[–]XavierMalory 14 points15 points16 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Again, I'm not disputing that remark about Daily Mail. I even said it in my first reply to you. I said:

No, averaging about 40% factual makes the Daily Mail worthless.

What you were trying to say is because the OP linked something from Daily Mail, it makes the posts in this sub worthless, and that's simply not true. Here's your quote:

Averaging around 40% factual makes these posts worthless.

I showed you evidence that this particular story is not fake, so the OP is valid, because a number of other sites are carrying the same story.

The bottom line here, is that regardless of the news source, everyone who posts an article anywhere should verify it across more than one news source before posting it.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. It does make it worthless because it’s spreading a source of known misinformation and it’s done knowing most will not vet the sources they are reading. OP could have posted from a more valid source but slipping these in every so often gives the impression that they are considered more valid than they should be making it easier to spread their misinformation.

[–]Parzec1 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Your post should be removed for derailing or not being from the right demographic, but lucky for you this sub isn't moderated by sexist cows like "ask women". Enjoy the freedom afforded to you by this open form.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 19 points20 points21 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You chose a circumstance involving the sexual abuse of a kid to mouth off about the media involved?

You fucking arsehole.

[–]HardWorkinMerkin -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

No you’re a fucking arsehole Greg. You’re pushing for the spread of a known source for misinformation.

Edit: I always appreciate the accounts who respond to me while simultaneously blocking me. You put your cowardice right out there. And you double down by doing it in support of spreading a known source if misinformation. So much here to pat yourself on the back for u/shitpostradamus.

[–]Shitpostradamus 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I always appreciate the accounts who double, triple and quadruple down on their piece-of-shitness, so I know fully to block the account, sparing any future observation of said piece-of-shitness. Get fucked, asshole

[–]njjb-1111 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So you’re a pedo apologist as long as the pedo is a woman then?

Got it, I hope you don’t have any children you worthless shit!

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]njjb-1111 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Mate you’re a pedo apologist, you don’t get to judge me you worthless freak

[–]HardWorkinMerkin -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh shit, you get dumber. I wasn’t expecting that. I guess I should have though

Edit: Bye njjb-1111 Commenting while simultaneously blocking making makes you a coward. Also, you’re wrong. No one here proved me wrong. A single story does not make an unreliable source reliable.

[–]Parzec1 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is a true story about a child abused by a perverted woman who sees no punishment. Stop being a cunt and show some humanity.

[–]Nobleone11 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Grow up and learn to vet your sources.

Says the petulant prick crying like a little baby about sources when we're talking about a female rapist who got off scott free.

Stick with the subject at hand or shut up and get out. Nobody's holding you hostage.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well this is dumb. Misinformation is fine as long as the story has value here? The subject doesn’t give the source validation. Note that.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

You would be better off finding what “actually happened” in this story instead of dismissing the source and the story in its entirety. Find evidence to the contrary or leave.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

We’d all be better off getting our information from vetted sources as opposed to known sources of misinformation that shouldn’t be promoted anywhere.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

This may be true but you didn’t provide any evidence that the story in question, or the news source itself is unreliable. You just shit on the entire community.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I did provide evidence the source is unreliable. It was the first comment of mine you responded to.

[–]Low_Philosophy_8 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

He didn't ask you to provide evidence the source was unreliable he asked you to provide evidence the story had false information. These are not the same thing I don't why you can't grasp that.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

His exact words, “…you didn’t provide any evidence that the story in question, or the news source itself is unreliable.”

[–]Low_Philosophy_8 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You would be better off finding what “actually happened” in this story instead of dismissing the source and the story in its entirety. Find evidence to the contrary or leave.

[–]Low_Philosophy_8 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'll admit though he misspoke after in his later comment, but its clear in his repetition what he wanted from you.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It is, and I made it clear what he was asking does not change the fact that OP’s source is consistently factually unreliable.

[–]CookyMcCookface 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What in the ever-loving fuck are you arguing about? 😂

The Daily Mail is, indeed, a mediocre source, at best. But just like Fox News and CNN, even a broken clock is right twice a day. It’s EXTREMELY easy to fact-check this article, so does it make you feel more comfortable if it has “msn” in the url? And that it was written by a local reporter? If so, here you go:

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/ramsgate-woman-avoids-jail-after-having-sex-with-underage-boy/ar-AA16nH7I

Now you can actually discuss the contents of the article? Maybe?

[–]rabel111 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying this event didn't happen?

[–]odysseytree 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Attack the message, not the messanger. Unless you have counter evidence to prove that that crime didn't happen or she was jailed, your opinion is invalid.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The story doesn’t validate the source. Why would I attack the message when the messenger is the source of fault? I don’t have to have counter evidence to prove when we already know the source is faulty.

[–]odysseytree 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The story doesn’t validate the source

Prove it.

[+]HardWorkinMerkin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying a source with a know track record of being 40% factual can be redeemed by this story alone?

[–]Eastwood96 163 points164 points165 points 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Guys, she didn't know what she was doing--she was abused as a kid and it's all the 15 year-old boy's fault. Damn, the patriarchy!!

Let us know if you still have that opinion after you have spent some time in jail.

[–]toolsavvy 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

lol. I have spent some time in jail and I can tell you the last thing you want to be is trans.

I stress - this is not the way. I am a man and i will remain a man, free or incarcerated. I'm not controlled by the enemy to such a degree that I would try to hide my manhood in order to "be safe".

[–]VaultDweller77 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's the beauty of it, nowadays you don't have to hide anything. All you have to do is say that you feel like a woman, automatically you become a protected class. You don't have to modify your life one bit, nobody can call you a liar because of cancel culture.

[–]Fuzzy_Ad_6757 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Once upon a time, I lived as a trans woman but I don't anymore. I detransitioned not because I felt being trans was wrong for me but because it's damn freaking hard!!

You get met with open and subtle hostility by almost everyone. You're never left alone, even when you try to keep to yourself. I was physically assaulted 3 times and sexually assaulted more than that. It was the most hellish existence I ever endured. I would love to be trans again but I don't ever want to experience all the shit I went through EVER AGAIN.

When you're male, trans woman or cis man, you're hated for the simple fact you were born male and that will never go away. Men and women simply hate the existence of males.

Being a man is tough--especially if you don't want to be one--but I'd rather not go through another traumatic experience.

Edit: Just because you identify as a woman or female doesn't mean you get treated any better. The police most certainly didn't care about finding my attackers because I identified as female. I had EMTs harass me after an attack because I was trans, it doesn't matter what you identify as, if you were born male that's license by everyone to hate you for NO REASON.

[–]VaultDweller77 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was talking strictly from a legal point of view

[–]Fuzzy_Ad_6757 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even from a legal point of view, that won't help(at least not in the long run). Like I said in my edit, identifying as female didn't help me with the police. It never helped me in any legal situation because I was still seen as a man/male. Even the president affirmed that trans women, males who identify as women, are still required to register for the draft, so much for males acquiring female privilege.

We are ALONG way from males being treated the way they identify. If more men legally identify as female, all that will do is spur lawmakers--who already are hostile to ANYONE born male--to curtail the means of identifying as female. In short, men will be forced back to square one and still face the same problems.

We as men need to stop trying to game the system and work together and change it. But we're too busy being self centered to do any real fighting.

Since they are only imprisoned for “serious crimes” we can conclude that the courts do not consider ‘causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent’, the charge for female rapists, a serious crime.

Do-gooders tell men that they must obey the law, yet this story happens on a hopefully infrequent basis.
And remember that age of consent laws tend to criminalize maturer teenage boys for dating girls a few years younger than them, while the female teachers, entrusted by society and taxpayer monies, get off almost scot free for having sex with someone the same age.

[–]equalRights111 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Probably infrequent in the grand scheme of things, but still significant.

[–]Early-Department-234 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True. Teachers get paid very well in Canada, and their pensions can go as high as six-figures per year even if they retire at 55.
Meanwhile, a man has to work at least 35 years on a consistent basis and max the CPP just to get barely C$20,000 a year in CPP and OAS combined, which is taxable.

That's why female teachers who sex underage students should be frowned upon more than some senior high schooler dating a teenage high schooler a day below the age of consent. Though they are doing illegal acts, the female teacher gets a better life than the high school senior whose life will be ruined.

In her defense, she really likes having sex with children...so what was she supposed to do?

[–]Ronniebbb 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Urgh sexual predators are among the worst humans on the planet. Just throw them in a damn cell for life.

[–]Optimal_Wendigo_4333 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unfortunately your sisters seem not to agree with you and insist that women are the victims, even on this case.

[–]Ronniebbb 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No I have one sister, and she agrees with me that sexual predators. Man or woman are evil scum that deserve to be locked up for life.

Anyone who condones sexual harassment, assault etc., be they man or woman, is not a sister, brother or friend to me and can kindly leave my life for good. I also recommend the police heavily look into them f

[–]marcusdj813 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How was this woman's behavior not predatorial? If a man did the exact same shit, his actions would've been considered predatorial straightaway.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Just saw this article in local news. It is funny and concerning how they said: “she was also convicted of the possesion of improper photograpy of the boy.”

This shit has its name. And is serious offense. Why to use euphemism?

Edit: the tittle of the article is: “He believed he won the lottery, but then this happened…” (wish I was lying)

[–]Far-Reputation7119 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So sad. Boys have no rights at all.

[–]griii2 37 points38 points39 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Before you rush to call out media for double standard, labelling the rape of 15y boy "sexual relationship", please check your privilege and you will realise that based on UK law men can not be raped by women. Grow up! /s

[–]Nihi1986 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why on Earth would a 28 want to fuck a 15yo kid...well, this is just another case of double standards, what I don't understand is why such a big difference. One thing is a lower sentence (which makes no sense) and a very different thing is sparing jail...

[–]Aimless-Nomad 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Check out Teah Vincent. Another pedo who was spared.

They wrote the headlines in the same way.

UK mom, Uk mom, UK mom

Shut the fuck up i don't care. She's pedophile you cunts.

[–]rabel111 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The sexist pig passing himself off as a judge, who releases pedophiles into the community where they can continue to prey on young boys, needs to be remove from the bench. However sick this woman is, the judge who gave her the 'girl' pass is more depraved.

How long will this sexist approach to the law be allowed to continue. In a country where men and boys are offerred no protection from sexual abuse by those entrusted with the law, and are imprisoned for simply looking at a woman, there is clearly extreme misandry and sexual prejudice. No justice for men and boys in the UK.

[–]Cuntplainer 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure if that were a 28 year old man and a 15 year old girl it would be treated a bit differently.

[–]Mode1961 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People don't realize that IMHO, these cases are just a means to an end. Eventually, someone, a politician or a lawyer, will make the case that laws that throw women in jail are not enforceable because courts are unwilling to put women in prison.

[–]Acrobatic_Sport_7664 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Anybody else shocked?

[–]vector5633 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly no! If you have a slit between your legs you're free to be a pedo and get away with it. No matter how young the child is, the slit between your legs makes you the victim by default no matter what.

Fucking pathetic!

Whoosh!

[–]Scandi_Navy 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Simps who don't get any, refuse to jail a perfectly usable kitty. Simps need to be weeded out.

[–]praductjr 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ll wait for you feminist, simps, and beta male women sympathizers. Please find me the story where a 28yr old man groomed a 15yr old girl and was spared jail time... I’ll wait.

220+ women are murdered every single day. 1 in 3 women are physically/sexually assaulted. 150 million women are raped every single year. 95% of rapes are never reported. Out of the 5% of rapes that ARE reported, the rapist walks free 98.5% of the time.

[–]ChaosOpen 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How do you know they aren't reported if they aren't reported?

[+]redditeditreader 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hope this isn't facetious, but is a legitimate question, asked in good-faith, concern, a desire to understand ... and I will treat it as the latter. I knew I'd face down voting, whataboutism, minimization, mocking, gaslighting, & denial bc too many men stay silent, ignore, are ambivalent, minimize, deny, approve, or participate in violence, rape, murder, & abuse against women.

This data is publicly available online, specifically on the websites of United Nation, DOJ, World Population Review, Harvard University (& Harvard Kennedy School), Woman's Stat Project, which is the most comprehensive database/compilation of information on the status of women globally; used by UN, the Defense Department, the Central Intelligence Agency, the World Bank, Harvard's Kennedy School; and it possesses more data than the 6 next largest gender-issue databases COMBINED (including the UN's & World Bank's).

But rape statistics ARE difficult ascertain bc:

• Some countries say a rape only counts if it EXCEEDS a certain threshold of VIOLENCE. Others consider any non-consensual sex to be rape.

• Some countries do not believe a husband can rape a wife, even when violent or non-consensual. Others include spousal rape.

• Some countries only count those incidents that proceed to a legal trial. Others count reports of rape.

• Some countries only include non-consensual sex w/a minor & believe that if a child consents, it's not rape, regardless of the child's age. Some countries include consensual sex with a minor/child, aka statutory rape. Some include non-consensual, & consensual sex with a minor (statutory rape) in their rape totals. Other countries place any sex with a minor, consensual or not, into a completely separate category.

• Some countries confine the definition of rape to forced vaginal penetration during sexual intercourse only (so here, male victims wouldn't be counted). Others consider any unwanted/forced penetration of the mouth, anus, or vulva w/any body part or object to be rape.

• Some countries track only male-on-female rape (again, male victims wouldn't be counted). Others also track female-on-female, female-on-male, and male-on-male rape.

• Some countries count each individual incident/event/assault that occurs between the same people (e.g., a child & a relative or a man & his arranged fiancée) as its own separate incident. Others add all of the incidents together & count all incidents/assaults as a SINGLE rape.

• Similarly, some countries count gang rapes as a SINGLE RAPE incident regardless of how many individuals raped the victims and how many rapes a victim endured. Others count gang rapes as multiple incidents (one per participant, minus the victim or victims).

Since you took the time to actually answer my question, I will do you the same. Truth of the matter is I am very familiar with this 95% claim, you are not the first person to say it and the problem I have with it isn't what it is saying, but what it isn't saying, in short it is what is known as a lie by omission. In other words, you leave out a very important pieces of information that are necessary to not completely misunderstand the statistic in a way that benefits you.

You never specify that you're talking about the entire world. It is easy to make the assumption that this 95% is talking about the situation in the reader's local area. 150 million rapes per year is not a surprising number on a worldwide scale considering places like the Congo where rape is used as a weapon or the Middle East where a woman's word is worth half of a man's word, resulting in it being essentially impossible to get justice, often if a woman reports rape she will be stoned to death for adultery instead.

But if the person believes that there are far more rapes than there are in America, the UK, France, Canada, etc and they all go unreported, it is easy to convince them in their confusion that there is a rape culture that is hiding the rapes and if they don't do something, they will end up a victim. The ensuing hysteria can then be weaponized to further persecute men.

That is a lie by omission, and while I thank you for taking the time to answer my question, that does not make your original statement any less dishonest.

[–]On_Ordinary_User 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

  • 150 millions women are raped every single year
  • 95% are never reported

It's become the time when big numbers (no matter how bizarre they are) rule now.

[–]Parzec1 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

99% of men who are raped/abused don't report it

[+]redditeditreader -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. 95% of women don't either. I'm not saying men can't be victims and easy there is a stigma attached towards men being the victims. However, men are a very small minority of rape victims and only make up 3-10% of rape victims. Men are also the perpetrators 99% of the time. Instead of whataboutism and down voting violence against women, how about be an advocate against it.
