And of the 19 firefighters that just died in Arizona, 19 were males. On HP I am called sexist for pointing that out.

Both male on male violence and dangerous occupations are touchy subjects in the MRM because they tend to show people with cross purposes, especially regarding biological issues. I think there are still some important lessons to take away from these though (personally those two issues are big to me):

Women should have to bear the same obligations as men if they want to achieve equality. And if they don't want equal obligation, then it should be ok to give men praise for taking on those obligations.

82 great men and 1 great woman gave their lives, and it's not ok to erase the great parts of masculinity because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Any time there's a bunch of people killed, the men are dehumanized by covering up them being men by listing their job title instead. But if women are killed, oh they get special consideration. To quote Warren Farrell, "Women are human beings, men are human doings."

Someone asked what the point is.

I was actually waiting for people here to discuss the article.

A few points:

a) If the going gets tough, it is always the men who get put in harms way. But female firefighters get the same salary. And of course, lower requirement for physical fitness.

b) such a glaring disparity. And nobody mentions it. Have you guys heard of it?

c) political correctness. Until recently, these men were firemen. But language has been changed, now we think it is normal to call them gender-less firefighters.

Truthfully, there's almost no disparity between the statistics of men and women dying to the ratio of men and women who are firemen.

The problem here is that the chances of fires happening where there are all-male units is statistically higher than mixed units. The numbers would be more evident of something awry if we had an even distribution of male/female firefighters. The numbers actually add up in this particular instance.

I am a hotshot firefighter from the southwest and I find this incredibly disrespectful to the women on the crews around me. My current crew has no women on it but they are expected to perform at the same level as the men on a hotshot crew. I have worked along side them and they have shown just as much effort and heart as the men. We are in a stand down from operations right now on the Silver fire to talk to loved ones and settle from this news and I don't appreciate this being used for soap box to your issue.

Because in today's news, (most likely) 19 FIREMEN died, and nobody mentions the fact they are all MEN. And even at reddit mens rights, this gets massively downvoted and nobody bothers checking the facts.

I could not verify yet, but I wager a bet that at least 18 of them are male. I would bet that they are all male.

If there was a woman firefighter, they already would have mentioned it.

Largely, it is their choice that nearly all firefighters are male. Even where they have qualified females apply, they choose not to hire them much more often than not. It is a tragedy what occurred in Prescott today and you're right - the odds are that most of them are men. Although I'm sure that if they had females on their staff, they would have also been out there in the trenches working. I don't really understand your point either. Are you saying they need to start hiring an equal number of women so the numbers will even out? But at less pay? Or what?

Look, I love men's rights and I'm all about the cause, but I don't think this is due to some over arching sexual discrepancy, but more due to the fact that firefighting is a career that requires INCREDIBLE physical fitness. The tests to become a firefighter are considered some of the most physically and mentally demanding of any field and are not adjusted to be easier for females. There are female firefighters, just a lot less of them. I don't think it's part of some feminist conspiracy, it's just tough for a woman, who is genetically inclined to be less strong than a man, to haul 100 pounds of hear and 200 feet of hose up 40flights of stairs in 20pounds of flame retardant clothing. Also, the teams that are more likely to be killed are the high risk teams like para jumpers or hotshots, which have even harder fitness requirements. Again, there are female firefighters doing it, but a lot less. It's a dangerous job and these guys know it. They're heroes and i don't think it needs to be a men's rights issue

This really isn't a worthwhile post for MensRights. A good post would be about a specific injustice due to a real issue that affects men. Such as how the military deals with situations of spousal abuse (woman beating a man), a case where a man is forced to pay child support for a child he didn't want and he was convinced by the woman that she was on birth control, etc.

The only thing that this proves is that, yes, men do primarily take on more risky jobs than woman do...but that is all that it proves. Frankly, the timing that you are posting this as well is really inappropriate and inconsiderate. Yes, the majority if not all of the fire fighters that lost their lives were men, but to point that out now is just wrong.
