That person is such a scumbag. Really, how can you be so thick

[–]whackPanther 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Let's accuse them

[–]bleepitybloop555 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yes.

[–]lilac3680 33 points34 points35 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Galbraith had a simple rule: listen and verify. “A lot of times people say, ‘Believe your victim, believe your victim,’” Galbraith said. “But I don’t think that that’s the right standpoint. I think it’s listen to your victim. And then corroborate or refute based on how things go.”

A quote from the competent detective featured in this horrifying article.

[–]--Edog-- 100 points101 points102 points 7 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

The idea that any woman can destroy any man with merely an accusation is one of the most scary things that has happened in this country in my life.

[–]Zoenboen 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't the message. It needs to be about other crimes. Repeat this back to people regarding shoplifting to murder. And if you are engaged with a mother ask about being accused of abusing their children - would they be in favor of child protective services taking their kids on an accusation alone?

This seems like a gender issue but we can't win that fight. You'll be accused of being a rapist. It needs to be a due process conversation to win.

I'm a liberal but Identity Politics is a crime against humanity (imo). I'm ashamed there are people who say this should be a liberal cause and that they use this to stifle freedom. I think if you listed the Bill of Rights you could find an example from Identity Politics of the left that goes to subvert those 10 starting tenants of American freedom.

[–]heisengarg8 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

and if women assault someone they are not even called a rapist even if they are proven guilty. No news story called Asia Argento a pedophile statutory rapist.

[–]antilopes 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That is because each news organisation has a style guide defining the way variations in language will be used. There will also be rules like "check your spelling" and "know what words mean, use dictionary X".

I don't imagine even the lowest-brow papers would permit using "pedophile" for a 17 year old.

[–]Eaan 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A pedophile is someone who is attracted to prepubescent kids. A 17-year-old is NOT that

[–]heisengarg 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Corrected. Thank you.

[–]superprez 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the 17 year old is the pedophile they certainly would.

[–]JustRumors 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shit terrifies me as well. It terrifies my mom the thought that someone could ruin my life or my step dads life with just an accusation and no proof

[–]Henry_Doggerel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That it can happen in 2018 is very depressing.

I think Einstein was so right when he said "Everything has changed except the way we think."

With everything that we have achieved, an innocent person is still not safe if all he/she has is their own self and the system to decide guilt or innocence.

[+]splash_water -9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Why do you have to add genders to this statement?

[–]thorsdisciple 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because even women that are accused and proven to have actually done the crime almost always get off with a slap on the wrist, while men who are accused and acquitted still have their reputations destroyed

[–]splash_water 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for explaining

Edit: downvote for question :(

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]--Edog-- 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You realize this is a men's rights sub, right?

[–]antilopes -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That existed before you were born.
How do you cope with the fact anybody you meet could be carrying a concealed knife? Or slow acting poison that nobody would notice them applying to you? Or that they can make explosives from a garden shop which would blow your house apart while you sleep?

[–]VTwinVaper 34 points35 points36 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Emmet Till would have something to say about this...if he hadn't been killed for a false accusation.

[–]duckmedaddy272 141 points142 points143 points 7 years ago* (34 children) | Copy Link

I would reply to this dude with, "You raped me, I sentence you to life in prison..." And hopefully they would realize why it's called innocent until proven guilty. Edit: I accidentally spelt "raped" wrong so I fixed it, I hope it makes everyone happy that some humans like to pick on the mistakes of other humans, we all are humans and there for we all make mistakes.

[–]subclasses 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

there for vs. therefore

[–]UberDuperDrew 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hi. I'm the type that would post a reply that pokes fun at the spelling error. But it wouldn't be meant to disparage you or imply anything bad about you. It would just be because I'm a dork and can't resist.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 69 points70 points71 points 7 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Rapping is not a crime.

I mean, it's not good music, but it's not worth prison.

[–]Mcquiz 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It used to be good music.

[–]HPLoveshack 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A small minority of it was good... same as today... same as all music.

[–]duckmedaddy272 -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I did fix my error but everyone doesn't have to conform to point out the spelling differences between "Raped" and "Rapped". But if you insist, thank y'all for pointing out a human error, maybe next time I should keep a dictionary and thesaurus with me.....with a grammar-nazi or Nationalsozialismus Über-Zauberkorrektoren.

False accusations are less with rape than robbery. The source I read yesterday listed 5% roughly for both. So I'm not really inclined to belive most are lying about either situation.

Arguments why oath-on oath (that is, accusation-only) cases should not even be given a hearing:

[–]Sosolidclaws 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Brilliant. I'm always in favour of taking accusations seriously and investigating them through any evidence possible, but this highlights an extremely important issue in the "trial by public" process.

[–]Siganid 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's also striking how male accusers aren't included.

[–]puppehplicity9 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well then, I accuse that poster of murdering me.

You don't believe me? You don't need evidence, or you say that the evidence proves I am lying?

Why are you being dumb!?

[–]REEEEE_tbh 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How do you share a society with someone who unironically believes this? I don’t see any way to get past this line here.

[–]Henry_Doggerel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Education.

Just the basics.

[–]REEEEE_tbh 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can education really fix someone who does not believe in the fundamental principle of innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?

I think they’re all aware of the concept, and just prefer witch hunts and social mob justice to the principled stance of assumed innocence, and I can’t share a society with someone who believe that.

[–]Henry_Doggerel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We have such people in our society. Avoid them at every opportunity and use your principled stance to educate those who just lack an understanding of fundamental principles of justice and have just been pulled along for the ride by the lynch squads.

As with any popular movement that is built on lies you will have a certain number of decent people who have gone astray. The leaders are generally those who deliberately spread falsehoods to advance their perverted views of this world. I agree that there is nothing we can do about such people. We can only attempt to limit the damage done.

[–]Hardcore_Daddy 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just mention "To Kill A Mockingbird"

[–]james18444 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

This is why we need due process - it gives the evidence a chance to be reviewed. Police and courts sometimes get it wrong but by and large, our system mostly works.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The quote was not about a court, it was from Kav's confirmation where his good character was being questioned. There is no question of guilt or innocence or proof or criminal penalties at stake.

[–]candidly1 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are crazy men, and crazy women. Sometimes they have crazy agendas and say crazy things to try to get their way. I have witnessed this sort of thing up close many times over the years. To try to deny it is stupid.

[–]Shitworldwelivein1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Sadly enough, many women have rape fantasies and some watch violent porn.

[–]Henry_Doggerel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I have known two such persons. One came across as a serious, rational person. Yet she was seeking attention by claiming to have been raped and subsequently that she was receiving mail and messages of a threatening, sexual nature.

In this particular case, I don't think the woman in question would have wrongly accused an individual. It was a situation where she was seeking attention. It was nevertheless troubling to me. It was clear to me after investigating that there were no such threats and the letters were constructed by the individual seeking attention.

These situations emphasize how important it is to be skeptical of the accuser until valid evidence is presented.

This is our system and it must be preserved. No exceptions.

[–]Shitworldwelivein1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Definitely need evidence but in a country like America people get locked up over false accusation and perjury against them by women all the time. Some women lie about themselves being victimized. Some women even lie about small relatives of theirs being victimized.

How men are locked up with nothing to show for is beyond me. On top of that some women have rape fantasies and some are into BDSM.

[–]Henry_Doggerel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As I've heard from men with more experience and often less education more times than I can remember, "Don't stick your dick in crazy." And that's the best advice I can offer.

You want to destroy a man you just accuse him of some heinous sexual shit. All the more effective if the alleged victim is one of his own children.

What kind of man would do that? Better question: What kind of woman would accuse an innocent man of doing that?

A crazy angry woman. Lots of them around.

Hunker down.

And don't stick your dick in crazy.

How can you people actually believe this garbage? If you're a white male and you honestly believe your rights are being infringed upon, you need to leave the basement, get off 4chan, and have an actual experience in the world instead of being radicalized with non verifiable information other than "women suck men I'm an alpha lmao."

Pro tip: if you have to call yourself an alpha male, you're almost definitely not.
