Wish this was true in the UK I was a victim of this by an ex girlfriend and I can’t tell you how traumatic it is being locked in a cell for 22 hours with no evidence and being scrutinised by the most muggy women police officers in charge of the case. Accusations should also be private and the media should be banned from posting names of accusers and accused until there has been a conviction. That will also remove the incentive to make false accusations and ensure that only genuine harassment claims are made.

The problem is not only with the one who makes these false allegations but also the media who quickly publishes articles about that person without checking facts.

Even if he gets free from fake charges, he never truly gets accepted in the society.

Nobody really bothers to check the follow up article and some of the media groups don't even release follow up articles about fake charges being dropped. Now the only choice for that person is to either file defamation charges against big media groups which he might not win or stay silent and move to different place.

Honest question: what if a person was truly raped, they took it to court, but did not have enough evidence to prosecute, and the defendant got a not guilty. Would that person be punished for "false accusation"? Im just more curious what legally constitutes a "false accusation", like does it have to relate to defamation?

Wouldnt it become an issue if say, a victim was truly raped, but they were afraid of "losing" in court and getting punished?

This coming out of India kind of makes this more of a threat towards women than it is supporting what's right. Women in India already have a hard enough time getting their rapists convicted let alone getting heard and not themselves abused for even saying someone raped them.

Context is important. Not everywhere is it safe to talk about being a victim and there's a big push to silence them. Realize that while also supporting your rights to not be falsely accused.

Makes sense, and no doubt claims need to be proven just like any other crime. And false accusations (maliciously made) should be punishable because it’s heinous. However, in the context of india... it is a very strong possibility this message is not being made in good faith. India is absolutely abhorrent at convicting sexual offenders, has a very low rate of reporting, and a rampant culture of victim blaming. So, not really feeling that great about an Indian company making this message a priority
