One of the worst first dates I've been on was to a chain restaurant (his suggestion).

I've moved since then, and I now live in an area that's filled with incredible independent restaurants. There's absolutely no need to settle for a Cheesecake Factory.

I think this depends on what chain. There are som “chain” Restaurants that are pretty upscale. obviously if we are talking Olive Garden, AppleBees etc. no question. But honestly I wouldn’t go to those places myself, so why would you go with a guy there anyways. 😂

My male ‘friend’ (I considered him a friend but it turns out HE wanted us to be more than friends) took me out to Olive Garden to celebrate my promotion. I later found out he used to date a minor...recently as an adult. We’re 25. Yeah he’s no longer my friend.

Had a guy once suggest we meet up at The Habit burger grill. I couldn’t believe it, not even a decent chain restaurant. My co worker was shocked when I cancelled it because she thought I was being to picky. Imagine the Habit on a first date! What’s the second? 50/50 and the mcdonald’s? Pass

I never thought about this. Now that I think about it, when my family wants someone to suggest a restaurant to eat at, if we dont know what to pick/too lazy to look up nice places, we just suggest chain restaurants like nandos or cheesecake factory to avoid having to think.

I think it depends what kind of a chain restaurant it is. A restaurant isn't automatically terrible because it has expanded to multiple locations or has franchised. But if you're in the fast food/fast casual tier and you're not teenagers, he's not trying.

Men who choose chain restaurants for dates either lack depth (bad) or are scam artists (bad). As a point of reference, my HVM takes me on dates to places (restaurant or otherwise) that he personally found to be excellent and worth experiencing and wanted to share with me so that I can enjoy myself there as well. So we'll go to these great views or really tasty hole-in-the-walls for dates. To me, that tells me he has personality and consideration for my pleasure, something many men lack.

agreed! if he's suggesting Applebees on the first date, thats the nicest place he ever eats at. if he does suggest a small or swanky business make sure you actually look it up and vet it before going there, I was asked to a small business restaurant he really uphold to me making it sound classy and nice, but really it was a dumpy gross bar in a really bad neighborhood. I ghosted and blocked him!
