It's really sad how normal sexism and disrespect towards men has become
[–]I-dont-know-it 70 points71 points72 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s so frequent how much we are bombarded with this shit that it takes this to really open up my eyes! We see it in the media and on the news, etc. Seeing this was an eye opener
[–]ronpaulbacon 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I actually think these quotes are true both ways...
[–]C0II1n 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Tbh I find them hurtful in both lights
[–]ronpaulbacon 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Jesus when it's turned the other way it's so easy to see how sexist it is but i bet just about all the feminists who see this will say but the patriarchy so I need to be better then you to be equal because that's my science

I consider myself a feminist, but maybe I'm not. At least not in today's standards. I want equal rights, responsibility, and opportunity. I understand that their are things that men naturally can do better than I can, and accept that they may be given a job based on that. There are also things I can do better either as a woman or just a person in general. Men and woman are usually better at opposite things, so let's work together to create the best outcome whether it be in the workplace or in a relationship. Being equal means just that. We are equal and use our strength to help the opposite sex succeed in the best way possible. I dont understand people these days, mainly women. I guess it was how I was raised.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I know it must be kind of popular these days for younger guys (especially in college) to try and consider themselves feminists. And not all of these guys are the prototypical beta dudes who are just trying to impress women so he can get in their pants.
But as an older guy, my advice is to not even fall for it. I'm sure there are some genuine (and naive) women - mostly younger, too - who believe that feminism really helps men too.
But if you look at what the actual feminist organizations are pushing societally and politically, none of their main goals are to help men at all. Most of their policies are zero-sum in effect - they help or privilege women at the expense of men.
You can either be a feminist, knowingly screwing men. Or you can support your own goals, unapologetically. It's one or the other, unfortunately.
[–]courtnovo 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I feel like feminism was originally how I feel, although it's not anymore. Now of says feminism is to slander men and get only the benefits for women. I find this sickening. Give us the same opportunity and if we dont qualify stop crying it's a a man's world! Cant we all just benefit from the strength from the opposite sex? We are equal, but in different ways. Man or woman, let the opposite sex help you to accomplish things you struggle to do on your own!
[–]Jex117 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I want equal rights, responsibility, and opportunity.
Then you're not a feminist. Feminism doesn't stand for equality - feminist strives for 'Equity'.
You've fallen for a sales pitch. Feminism has nothing to do with equality.
[–]courtnovo 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Well then maybe I dont know the correct term. I just want equal right, opportunity, and responsibility. I thought that is what true feminism was about, not today's bullshit. I want a chance, and if I lose that chance because a Male is more qualified, I accept that. However, please do not dismiss me because of my gender.
[–]Benito_Mussolini 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Egalitarian is what you are.
[–]courtnovo 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Had to look that up, but sounds about right.
[–]steamedhamjob 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You’re right. The original definition and intent was for equal opportunities. Unfortunately, throughout feminism’s history, many groups have had a different views on what that means, and how to achieve equality, and after equality of opportunity was reached, more insidious branches have taken over. Feminism is not a fact of life, or a steadfast concept. It is an ideology that can be molded and changed. Anyone who sees it as all good or all evil is not thinking critically.
[–]MuntedMunyak -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just about everyone is a feminist just not what feminist means today just everyone believes that men and women are equal but different. It’s feminists who think the difference between a men and a women is sexist to the point if you have a fully functional penis and testicles if you feel like it your magically a women and vice versa. Normal good human being believe they are equal to each other but have different strengths
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
None of these quotes, except maybe neutral good, have anything relevant to do with feminism. They're Facebook-tier "If you can't handle me at my worst" quotes. Feminism doesn't tell people what a "real" man or woman is, nor does it deign to give weekly column-esque relationship advice.
[–]DJ-Roukan 30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You've not read over at the "Goodman Project" I take it, the flagship of feminist ideology as to what a man "should" be.
Feminist are constantly telling us what a "real man" is. the Gillette ad specifically stated so, the APA guidelines for treating men start and end with that. Woke men are a prime example. They talk about the "man box", and how men need to step out of it...right into their new box wrapped with a pretty pink bow.
the same people that say "no uterus, no opinion", do nothing more than tell us what we should be. All of those posters are doing exactly that, the entirety of feminist ideology is about changing men to suit women.
[+][deleted] -15 points-14 points-13 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
TIL Gillette is feminist.
[–]TheVegetaMonologues 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That was never in dispute
[–]DJ-Roukan 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes.
It was actually a self confessed, hard core feminist that commissioned the ad, and another that produced it. President is a male feminist, as skewed as those that wrote it.
It is dripping with feminist dogmatic ooze.
[–]MillennialDan 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think you qualify to be the arbiter of feminist ideology. Feminism is essentially whatever its proponents in aggregate make it to be.
[–]azazelcrowley 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminism normalized "Female empowerment" from a gynocentrist bent, the notion that it's okay and good for women to look out for their own interests and celebrate their own desires and that any man who doesn't facilitate or brings up his own preferences/interests them is a bad person. These shit-tier women are a result of that cultural shift, the kind of woman who only thinks about herself and how men need to be subservient to her desires. Previously how a womans behavior impacts her man would have been considered far more, but feminists made thinking or talking about that verbotten because that's how the evil menz subjugate women.
So yes, they have everything to do with feminism, gynocentrism, and the narcissistic cult of femininity they forced on society with their notion that only misogyny exists and female empowerment is always good.
So just remember; The biggest cultural factor leading to rape is feminists and their illness. Their total unwillingness and inability to admit that just because women shouldn't have to do something in a perfect world, doesn't mean they shouldn't anyway.
Half of all rapes. That's real rape culture. Them and their inability to stop hating men long enough to actually help women, and their determination to derail such classes because it undermines their ability to say "No, men should just change instead.". Even though it's a vanishingly small minority of men who do this.
Like imagine some psychotic maniacs going around burning down soup kitchens and welfare offices because why should there be poverty at all.
Women who aren't ill should shout these people down and demand those classes be normalized imo, and men should help them.

I love how the original non-reversed "empowerment" quotes still play right into the hands of traditional gender roles and act as if it's the man's job to shield the woman from any sort of injury.
[–]Onithyr 91 points92 points93 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Basic feminism:
Society has coddled and infantilized women for millenia, this has put women at a disadvantage as the lack of accountability has caused people to not take them seriously. The obvious solution to this is more coddling, more infantilization, and less accountability.

[–]logic2187 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yeah they're definitely not all bad, but clearly a lot of them are rediculous.
Top center is a really good, one for example.
The middle right one isn't bad either, as long as it's not taken to an extreme.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Top center would be better gender neutral than either gender. Teach your child to respect people.
[–]logic2187 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]woosel 32 points33 points34 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah some of these are actually positive! Some of these are kinda meh and some of these really are sexist. It’s a shame that the good messages get diluted with the antagonistic negative ones.
[–]Mugin 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Bottom left one >_<
I can picture the person saying such things in my head. Same kind that goes "If you can't handle me at my worst, you dont deserve me at my best". Mind you, their best is below mediocre and their worst is abusive and toxic as hell.
Not that the other ones are much better. They are clearly unacceptable with the genders reversed and should be called out as they were.
[–]SwiggityStag 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That kind of quote is exactly how awful, toxic people make themselves feel better about themselves, and absolve themselves of all responsibility for their behaviour. If you need to use that attitude to make yourself feel like you deserve a relationship, you definitely DO NOT deserve a relationship.

My god, it's so easy to see the sexism when it's put this way.
[–]Ekor69 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I just don't understand why people write these with gender specific pronouns in the first place. If they're true than they're true for both sexes and I feel like they'd sound more profound that way anyway. "The real power of a person is the size of the smile of the person sitting next to them" doesn't that sound way more wholesome? Isn't the message "Just be awesome to each other" much more clear when written like this? It's like the people who wrote these don't see the opposite sex as people and that feelings are things only they have.
[–]Lion_amongst_gods 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Perfect! This should infuriate the feminists.

[–]Prophet_of_Duality 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the original and this one played too heavily into gender roles. Men don't need to be masculine in a relationship and women don't need to be feminine.
It's okay if you want one that is, but not everyone needs to be like that.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The middle right though, wish that were true.
[–]Bascome 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Brusanan 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]nonnie69 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm a woman, and this is absolutely how I feel like anyone should feel about themselves and their significant other. We should see and mutually appreciate each other's strengths and weaknesses, and know that you are both lucky to have each other. :) edit: horribly worded, Sorry.

A real woman doesn't need you, she wants you. And if you start slacking she can be content without you.

[–]shaddoe_of_truth 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This gender war nonsense needs to stop to be honest. The only way for it to stop is for people to come together... But then again thats about as likely to happen as trying to train an oyster to drive a car.
[–]ForwardPersonality5 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The bottom middle one isn’t SO bad
I read the goals before looking at the top part explaining how the roles had been reversed.
I immediately assumed these were some quotes that someone had been banned from Reddit or Facebook or Twitter for posting.
This is how bad things have become.
#8 is actually true. Only whiny manginas think otherwise.
[–]erucae12 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Bro this may empower the feminists who say this to themselves because they’ll never have anyone love a beluga whale, but damn this is saddening with the actual messages
[–]RampagingAardvark 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I actually think the third and ninth ones impart a good-ish message. No one will love you unconditionally, and being in a relationship where one person doesn't respect the value of the relationship is unhealthy. A healthy man or woman doesn't need their partner, but does respect the value he/she adds to their life.
If you can't live without your spouse, you're heading into codependency territory. Even if your spouse is otherwise a good partner, that will end badly if you ever break up or if they die.
You should always be capable of standing on your own if you can help it. Then your relationship is balanced between two forces of equal strength, and more likely to remain stable.
[–]TheToxicWyvern 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The best part is that you didn't even need to use quotes from the famous rad fems like Dworkin or Steinem to prove your point.
[–]Rachaford 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I keep reading these as the originals and it’s honestly so fucked up. The originals would be “fine,” but these aren’t. Neither are fine. It’s so outrageous.
“A real woman can’t stand seeing her man hurt”
That one actually seems like it’s not problematic though
[–]Crazycatgirl16 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When I was younger and unaware of how sexist feminism was, i saw these kinds of 'empowering' quotes and while I didnt necessarily think of them as empowering it was more of a yeah go girl power thing.
