If we lived in a patriarchy, the laws would discriminate against women, and would benefit men, and society would be focused on the problems of men. However it is the other way around, the law discriminates against men and benefits women. And the problems of women are a national problem while those of men (for example, much higher suicide rates) don't matter to anyone, but if those same problems were women's problem then they would be a national problem.

In my humble meek womanly opinion, women have done more damage to the rights of women than men ever have.

Women voted against the equal rights amendment

The majority of pro life voters are women.

Women are the ones screaming about other women being sluts, whores, and b*tches.

Men are minding their business for the most part and enjoying the show of us duking it out with each other over each other's men and children.

A patriarchy is a system of governance where women are prohibited from participating in the political process and only men have a say (which they typically use to benefit men). More men choosing to run for political offices does not a patriarchy make.

In occidental countries there is no patriarchy but you could still have some stigma from some conservative people: thinking of my ex-girlfriend wanted me to work more that I earn more money for the "family", it sounded absurd to me but for her it was a reality. Also my example shows that patriarchy doesn't only come from men but that some women are also asking for it (much more than you can think). Being in a patriarchal system can be negative for both genders. I personally would not like to live in such a system. But in some countries they do live like this, we can see for example in Iran that patriarchy is coming back when 50 years ago they were very advanced concerning the freedom of women and gender equality. About India, I think it has a tendency to patriarchal society. My sister has been working there for a few months and she was responsible for a project. As a woman, no-one was listening to her, so she had to ask a male colleague to give the orders for her!!!

Patriarchy is a cultural thing and has been around for a very long time... In modern society, patriarchy tends to disappear in favour of gender equality. Men should not be blamed because of past patriarchal history. It has been like this and everyone had his own roles to it. I would personally prefer if it would continue in the direction of equality, so we all are responsible to build the world together, no matter who we are. Hoping also that gender positivity goes in both directions and that we stop to make the male gender the bad evil one. Things also need to change for men and sometimes I have the feeling that we are forgotten...

Throughout all of history Men never made laws to deliberately harm women (In most countries I hope). Only made judgements that were misguided because women weren't there to tell them otherwise.

Hierarchies are real, but there are a few things of note with them.

First, we move within multiple hierarchies. At work, our boss is above us. At home, our parents may be the final word between siblings, or perhaps there is an aunt or uncle who is the organizer who controls things. At a club meeting, there are usually presidents and officers that are elected. In a legal situation, things are even more complicated with varying jurisdictions and courts and policing groups.

Second, we are very mobile within our hierarchies based on how useful we are to the overall hierarchy. If someone of power things we could be of benefit further up, then we move further up. If you convince enough people below you to push you up, you can sometimes rise to being the person in charge. Sometimes all you have to do is take control rather than have it given.

Third, these sorts of social structures are older than humankind. They exist in the animal kingdom even. This is the point Jordan Peterson makes in the parable of the lobster. The concept of hierarchy is born into us at a fundamental level, the same as it is for all life on Earth. It's genetically ingrained in us. We can try to escape our own nature, or we can embrace it and find ways to work within it.

Finally, it tends to be a small group of people who exist at the top of many of these hierarchies, and it often seems that the world tends to revolve around their whims. This is the part that feminists would would call the patriarchy. You can blow away this group and even go so far as to behead them as the French did, but as you do that a new structure is waiting to replace them. It doesn't work. This is why the metaphor of "smashing the patriarchy" doesn't make any damn sense. If the thing you've decided to value is violence, then you are going to put fundamentally violent people at the top of your structure and the only thing you are going to do is promote more violence.

We don't necessarily need more of a particular sort of people at the top, unless those people accurately represent the interests of the people in the middle and bottom. People always seem to think they know best and that they will be the ones that won't cause problems, but every decision has unforseen consequences.

I would say yes, in 3 major ways.

First by definition. "a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it". This is undeniable right? Men make up a large majority of judges, politicains, CEO's, military, police, etc. Every role of power in our society is overwhelmingly men. And in most cases women have very little chance to make it to these positions of power and when they do, they are almost under constant attack. Even if you believe women have advantages in our society that most men do not, you cannot deny they are not in positions of power in our society.

Two. When it comes to family life. While this is changing over time. In most households that are still together, the father is seen as the head of the household. While women might nag or have modern expectations. Most major decisions are decided by the man of the house. And per your edit, I am sure this is way more true in india.

Three. Historically/culturaly. No matter what your thoughts on modern day politics. I hope we can agree at least, for most of history society WAS a patriarchy. If we can agree with that, then I would like to ask. Do you think society would be different if instead of patriarchy, society was a true matriarchy for most of human history? Do you think our modern soceity would develope the exact same way, or would it be different (better or worse)? If you think it would be different, then we can agree, our society was built for and by patriarchy. What values we hold, how we structure society, our traditions. Patriarchy is a part of life in everyway. Just giving women equal rights still puts them at a disadvantage.

With the number of cuckold couples in India, it is starting to become more and more gynocentric, not really patriarchal. Why? Because a lot of Indian men are becoming betas, due to their upbringing and the culture they live in, often viewing themselves as inferior due to genetic characteristics. Maybe a lot of the laws have remained patriarchal, but like in the west, it is the simps, the cucks and the betas who will ruin the system.
