Personal disclosure - I'm on my 3rd LTR, second live-in GF, rest of my dating was mainly casual, so I don't identify myself with her description of weird, but if I was on your place, I wouldn't care much if a 42 y/o single mother like Rachel Bilson thinks it's weird if someone reachers 40 y/o mark without having sex with (at least) 4 women.

Some guys just "save themselves for X" - as weird as it sounds, it's how they were taught. They just don't talk about it in public because they'd be bashed into the ground and I think it's primarily women who'd do that. I just don't care, it's their life, I think it's wrong and self-harmful in this day and age, because very few women will be "waiting", so they disqualify themselves and set themselves up for a bleak and bitter dating experience. If anything and if I'd be honest, I think I know 2 guys, unconfirmed, though - one is a member of Black community and another is an immigrant from Europe - I think those guys are/were virgins back in the day, both around 30. They were both highly successful in professional way and I think they progressed ever since as well. Might be just a personal remark on observing these few and it cannot be extrapolated on a national level, but I'd say it's probably more common for these men to be "better" in other departments women highly evaluate. You can't have it all.

OP, I'd use the claim Rachel Bilson made as a cue to figure out more about her and see if she fits in what I expect from a woman I'm planning to go date or have a relationship. Relationship goes both ways and both sides should be content from it. Don't be a people pleaser and don't focus on what others want out of you, focus on what you want in a relationship yourself. She just stated her view, I could state I don't want to date single mothers (though I did, once, but not seriously). That just means we'd be incompatible and that's it, there are millions of others out there.

But if you ask me about my experience and what I think about her after on a personal level after such remark on her part, I'd say her life and home has revolving door of men going in and out. I've seen it with a single mother I "dated", if going to her place on weekends can even be labelled as "dating".

I think it's gross when anyone has had more than one or two in a lifetime. Everyone ultimately gets to make their own decisions and I try not to judge but I would not want to invite someone who has had many partners into my family.

You know, I understand trying things out in a committed relationship that's moving towards marriage and all the necessary steps of building trust are present, and then you find out that things aren't going to work. Doing that more than once or twice tells me that you have really bad judgement. Having many partners tells me that you are very promiscuous and have little understanding of the risks around sex.

I turn 40 this year, and I've had two partners one of whom is my wife. If I ended up divorced from my wife, I would not seek another partner. I made a promise to honor my wife and that she would be my only partner from here on out. That promise is between me, her, the community I live in, and God. I have taken on such promises and responsibilities previously, and I truly mean it when I make them. So many people don't.
