It certainly can’t be because during much of their lives, women are subsidized by men. If women were constantly paying for men’s meals, entertainment, vacations, and even day to day bills, perhaps they wouldn’t be able to save enough money to begin homeownership.

It's mostly due to women outliving men by a wide margin. Divorce rulings and family law biases alone cannot explain a discrepancy this large.

I may be an outlier as I’m a man that owns a condo . Don’t need a house, too much and when I was married I did all the yard work and everything. Now I’m in a nice two story condo with no yard work and some free time.

I wonder how many are women that got said homes from divorces or inherited them. Last I checked, the vast majority of credit card debt and student loan debt is held by women which makes me question how it would be possible if one has to have good financials to get a mortgage nowadays.

It didn't happen out of the blue.

Women are constantly being encouraged to step up their game and do better.

Men are constantly being encouraged to put their own needs aside and support women, or at least get the fuck out of the way.

Buying a home is not only a substantial financial investment, it's a substantial step up in responsibility. As you discourage responsibility in young men, they are going to make less money and be less inclined to purchase a house even if they do have enough money. Those that are both able and willing to make the leap are going to be more likely to succumb to financial issues along the way and lose their house.

This has been coming for a long time, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

I'ma be the outlier but as a single man why would I buy a house? To be real with you I buy a trailer before buying a house since I'm single and by myself. A small apartment is good for me. I just Don't see buying a whole house just to be by myself.

There's also got me thinking are they counting divorces or people that got houses off of inheritance or are these women that are just straight up buying out of pocket. And if it is out of pocket and statistically women are buying more houses than men then women generally just make more than men right?

It also got me thinking like statistically over half of the U.S live paycheck to paycheck, like over 60% of People don't have 1000 dollars saved. But out of the blue women ( especially single) are owning more homes than the men.

Hey if that's the case big ups to women and I'm happy they're thriving in this economy and I'll shut up. But if not I'ma need some more nuance study on how they're doing it. Till then I'll keep questioning 🤷🏿‍♂️.

Because women get the better jobs...the "lazy girl" jobs. They basically get paid a shit ton of money and don't do shit to earn it. They get these easy job because HR is also run by women so no easy, high paying job for you men.

OLDER single women own more homes, focus on that. Single men in mostly all age groups do own more houses than single women if that’s the case. It may change later on as more men are jobless and depressed and with more women getting degrees.

It depends what they mean by "single women". If that includes divorced women, it is no surprise. Most marriages now end in divorce, and most of those divorces are initiated by women, because they get rewarded for it, with primary child custody, a huge slice of the joint savings, and more often than not they get to keep the family home that they man paid for all those years. In short, most "single women" become home owners by divorce.

Because women initiate the divorce and then take the house. Often times they shamelessly look to see what's the most they can gain financially through the divorce, as many of us know, because they're usually fairly incapable of paving their own way at a high level (+$100k per year) due to the hard work involved.

*Caveat: ccould also be because men die earlier, so if age isn't taken into account, many of these single women could be widowed, perhaps?

If I were single I would rent. I'd never even remotely consider owning.

Owning a house is a LOT of work, it's more than one person should try to manage on their own. You can do all the work yourself and then it's your hobby, you can orchestrate vendors yourself and spend all your time on the phone... or you can rent and let a property manager who does this all as a full time job take care of it.

If I had to do all the work for maintaining my house myself, I would move and rent because it's too much work to do everything correctly. My wife picks up quite a bit, and we do use some vendors to help out as well.

Would love it if they presented the numbers broken down by how the home was obtained; acquired in divorce, death, inheritance, bought and paid, still mortgaged. Then compare numbers. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see women in greater numbers collectively, but what rate of this single women just ponied up the down and bought a home and have either paid it off or still are?

Women try to become independent from their parents as young as possible. They buy houses so they can fuck in peace. They can have over as many partners as they want without feeling judged.

Of course women aren't finding modern men financially attractive since men don't buy houses for independence. And don't care being judged for having sex.

This statistic is misleading.

Financially stable men--like ones who own homes--are highly desirable as dating/marriage partners. Owning a home lets men find wives, so they stop being single.

Financially stable women--like ones who own homes--are not much more socially desirable as dating/marriage partners; men select heavily for looks and youth. So these women remain single at higher rates.

Men aren't being screwed out of homeownership. They're getting homeownership and a spouse.
