You list a lot of complex problems in your post OP. They don't all have the same root cause. And most of them have multiple complexe causes.

The loneliness epidemic is caused by a mixture of social media, possibility to have communicate with loved ones from long distance and a lot of other reasons.

Social media has convinced us we don't need to have a community around us. That means we don't talk to our neighbors, our grocer, our postman.

Having the possibility to entertain long distance relationships made that we are more prone to move away from our family and isolate ourselves.

Scientists have basically said that in prehistoric times there were other coexisting, competing species of humans (Neanderthals etc) that were better equipped to survive than us in almost every way (Stronger, faster, tougher etc). Despite that it was actually how we were more social as a species, being able to support each other, that meant we survived and the other species didn't. Throughout our history being social has been our MAIN strength and is LITERALLY the reason we're still here. And now because of the current world with the internet/social media etc for the first time ever that ability is in decline... You do the maths on that

To add to this mental health for teenage girls in particular has dramatically worsened, suicide attempts for women has increased dramatically, overall antidepressant and pharmaceutical use has gone up tenfold for both genders, we’re never truly satisfied and are bombarded by the illusion of choice (not just in dating, but in every aspect of our lives), we’re in a constant state of information overload and we’re actively being pinned deeper into online echo chamber.

flat out we’re not built for this level of connectivity, and we’re not built to live without a purpose (which is exactly what modernity is lacking), so naturally, we look for meaning anywhere we can. Sadly, our minds are now geared towards finding quick short answers relating to this, which almost never work.

The internet has the power for good, but unlimited knowledge/avenues of interaction combined with an amoral profit incentive has driven goals towards one thing only: engagement, even if it is at the cost of our humanity. Fact is, modern technology isn’t designed to make our lives better (despite obvious applications to which where it could be shed that way), it’s designed to keep consumption up.

Advancements in technology have certainly made people reliant on their devices, often to the exclusion of in-person-socializing. Many are lonely and isolated, and I’m sure that has negatively impacted people’s ability to form friendships and relationships.

As far as increasing mental illness issues, I’m skeptical of the notion that this a modern phenomenon. Some of this could be due to increased awareness about various conditions, as well as advancements in diagnostic criteria and medical training.

Yes. All of our soceital problems are downstream of private control of money, corrupt government, and capitalist plutocracy. The rich dont contribute to society. They are parasites on the back of productive workers like you and I. They hoard wealth and impoverish the masses. As you and your neighbor become poorer every year, cultural issues become a way to divide and blame someone for the suffering.

Ask yourself this: how has technology dramatically increased our living standards, reduced the amount of work necessary, and increased productivity... yet everyone is getting poorer and working 2 jobs. It makes no logical sense. By all metrics, we should be working less and becoming richer. But the opposite is happening. Why? A small minority of people control all of the wealth and power, thus impoverishing the masses and accelerating division and societal breakdown.

We are living through the end of capitalism and the greatest bubble in history. When it pops... everyone will be destitute. If you want to fix families, society, and all of our problems, you need to guillotine the rich. I am not joking. Until a revolution happens, we will continue to get poorer and poorer until violence increases and there are riots in the streets. We are already seeing this in other countries.

Until the rich have zero influence on the way things are governed, life will not improve. Because they will always choose doing whats best for them instead of society. End a billionaire, save the world.

Stability, this may seem counterintuitive but hear me out. This is the safest,most stable time in human history. Lowest mortality rate,longest lifespan, healthiest people, least crime and violence, least wars, or threat of wars. Least amount of people with food insecurity, most educated populace in history.

Humans evolved under duress, mental illness isn't increasing, we're just doing more to address it because our society now has time to address it because we aren't worried about the yearly cholera, or typhus outbreak that going to kill 10% of the town . We're in the midst of adjusting as a species. 100 years ago ( 3 generations, so your great grand parents) we were all mostly farmers living in the countryside, and when your kids got a cough, you were worried that they'd die. We are living through a mass evolution of humanity. This is the adjustment phase. We don't know what to do with our natural internal stress management system that's automated. Tie that in with the " If it bleeds it leads" infotainment news cycle. This causes a stress response. Signaling our brain to prepare for instability, which means start up the fat storage, because famine/disease/war is on its way.

There's a bright spot though, social media isn't indicative of real life, the real world doesn't reflect what we see online. 66% of adults are married, and there's no indicator that it's going to change in the near future. Contrary to what this board thinks. Most people meet organically in public. Most people go to 3rd spaces, men cold approach women, and women are receptive. Men and Women value each other, and actively seek to be in their presence. Short overweight guys have gf's, and tall, educated single moms over 30 have bf's. The biggest impediment to your dating life, is you. That's also the easiest thing to fix, if you have the self-awareness to do so.

I think we have personality dysmorphia. In the 1950's, suburbia was thought to be the antechamber to heaven (which people still believed in); white picket fence, big new car, perfect nuclear family. If you went to a psychiatrist it was a shameful admission that you were severely defective. God forbid if you were a homosexual. Or bisexual (sexual deviant).

We've gone back to that in a lot of ways (tho we are more accepting of some sexualities). Maybe there's a 70 year cycle for these things. We are bootlickers for status they way we were then. Social media shows us that we have to "own" whatever we are doing 100%, be successful, be popular, be happy, etc.

What adolescent doesnt' feel awkward and out of place, sad, anxious and rejected, with no place to fit in? What adult doesn't hate their boring, vapid job, at least at first. Yes, that is tragic (for you , we're all perfect), and you ARE broken, but say no more, now there's a pill to fix that. We just have to cycle you through various meds to dull the pain until we find the one that works for you.

Nothing went wrong, this is the tough struggle we have to go through in order to get to a better society.

For progressives, things seem better to me across the board except obesity rates, which hopefully chemicals like semaglutide will help manage (it's been amazing for me).
The issues have just become open and apparent, and that's the first step to fixing things. All of the things were problems before, but they were problems where women had no effective choice but to be with misogynist assholes. Now they're free. They still have the choice of being with those misogynist assholes, and some of them will, but most won't. That's better for society as a whole in the long term. The worse the problems get for those lonely people in such a way that society actually notices and cares (I'm not convinced society does care, reddit like this reflects such a small percentage of the population that very few people I know are even aware of these things as 'problems') then hopefully we can start adjusting our schooling system to better prepare people for healthy social and psychological behaviors in post-religious world.
The reason I say in a post-religious world, is because most of t hose problems are currently solved in larger churches already, so the issue is with people who are misogynists or have crippling anxiety and also aren't part of a larger church. Right now, most "lonely" people could join a church like the mormon church where they have singles mixers and things to encourage people people to marry and have kids. The fact that they don't just highlights how being lonely is a huge problem they want solved, but not solved by their own changes in behavior. That's fine, religion sucks 90% of the time, but as a society we need to give our youth the tools they need to be self sufficient and understand how to interact in healthy ways.

When I read the studies, a big part of issues why people can't find people, is that women refuse to date people of differing political opinion. But generally what they mean, is that they refuse to date guys who believe in enslaving women via political will. I'd love for political debates to not involve whether we should or should not make decisions for women, that kind of debate should be resolved already (the answer is no, it doesn't make sense for any level of government to be involved with mandating decisions for any gender on what they should do with their own body) so we can move onto "normal" political debates. I think most women could date and/or marry a man who had differing political views if the differing political view was "should the US put a tariff on Chinese Steel which might prompt nearby countries to grow their own steel industries giving us 'more' competitors not less?" instead of "should we lock up women who cross state borders to get medical treatment when that medical treatment is illegal in their own state?" I don't know progressive guys who are unable to date unless they have some crippling social anxiety and refuse to come out, something I think would be solved if we had better mental healthcare in the US.

The obesity thing is a problem though. Human bodies are designed to gain weight to protect against times of scarcity. The problem these days is that we have no scarcity and our lives are extremely sedentary. We really should be doing more to come up with solutions to this.
