There used to be a functional linguistic hierarchy when judging male misbehaviour that went something like this: chauvinist -> sexist -> misogynist.

Being called a chauvinist was a minor aspersion to a man's character. It pointed out crude actions such as being a bit too focused on wanting sex or the like. For example, James Bond was often a chauvinist, but that attitude wasn't universally hated at the same time.

A sexist was a significantly worse insult, because it comprised thinking that only men could do a certain thing, like be a doctor or run a business. For example, Bobby Riggs was a sexist, for stating that only men could be professional athletes, because only they didn't fall apart under the stress of high stakes competition.

Lastly, a misogynist was a rarely earned epithet, reserved for criminals like the Boston Strangler for targeting prostitutes in murder sprees. It was limited to only the absolute worst of documented criminal actions.

Now, unfortunately, everything is misogyny, mainly because self-doping people on social media need their dopamine rush. The destruction of language has ruined our ability to communicate any matter of import, and division and societal collapse is inevitable in its wake.
