I've noticed that when I'm dressed well and out in public (like walking through the city or at events), I get occasional interest signals from girls. This boosts my ego a bit and builds this subconscious "cool self-image" in my head. But then I freeze up and don't approach at all, worried that if the approach is bad or if I act very nervous (contrary to that self image) or once we talk, she'll realize I'm not as attractive as she first thought, and it'll shatter that image.
It's like I'd rather stay in the fantasy of being perceived as cool from afar than risk rejection. This ends up with me just posing and not making any moves. I know this is kind of a childish thought when you think about it, but it took me a while until I realized that this is one of my biggest problems.
Has anyone dealt with this kind of overthinking/self-sabotage? Does this come from perferctionism, not allowing myself to make a "bad" approach?
