When food relief was flown into Haiti, it was only given to women, denied male victims.

Many studies show women initiate more domestic violence as men, yet it’s seen as an issue of men attacking women.

Most countries have far more men that are murdered than women, yet they pass femicide laws making female victimization a greater crime.

Similarly many countries have special programs to address violence against women and girls, again even when males are more victimized.

Feminism as well as society simply cares more about female victims than male victims. Suicide is no magical exception.

I've always thought this is a take that exemplifies men's Vs women's thinking quite well. The fact that "women attempt more but men use more violent methods" emotionally satisfies them that women are still the main victims so we can stop talking about it. Men are more likely to immediately question the logic behind this phraseology.

Their thought process never even gets to "yes but more men are dying, that still requires specific extra intervention". Never mind that many "suicide attempts" were not that at all, they are people who harmed themselves so that others would take them seriously. Some jurisdictions count it as a suicide attempt if you knick your arms, or slit one wrist then immediately put pressure on it and go to the hospital. Now, these people still need help and men do this too if evidently less frequently. But to not see the acute problem in conflating such "attempts" with people who take very final, planned, deliberate actions such as driving to and then jumping off a bridge or loading a gun and bringing it to your head is something I'll never understand.

That's the only way I can understand it - "women attempt more" is used as a thought-terminating cliche by people for whom it is simply too uncomfortable to realise men might actually have a big problem that society, not individual men themselves, should address.

Don't get me started on the things that are actually driving men, and not women, to suicide.

The truth is that women who attempt suicide use non-lethal methods and also attempt multiple times. So either they are too incompetent to succeed they use the act of a cry for help. Men know that no one cares and no help is coming, so when they attempt they succeed. It's really two very different behaviors.

Men do not use more violent means - they use more lethal means. While handguns are common in the US and hanging is more common globally, a huge amount of male suicides are done via poisoning - the same method women tend to use. The difference is that men just ingest a poison which that is actually lethal poison.

Feminists fall into two camps. The first views concerns and issues - like suicide - as zero sum games, and if male suicide is getting attention then women are 'losing'. So they attempt to push women to the front of the line and take some of that 'territory' back. The other camp just hates men and the idea of men getting any sympathy disgusts them.

Of course, such comparisons have no real value outside of 'gender war'. Society can study and address suicide from the perspective of both men and women. Women attempting more won't bring back the dead.

Feminists have nothing to worry about anyway, aside from acknowledging it here and there the system has no interest in helping men, nor doing anything about male suicide. It's 110% focused on women's issues.

There is a trend in their responses. A similar one is health where men living shorter lives is not an issue because women live more years in worse health (whatever that means). I would say the reason is that they are so accustomed to having these statistics cherry picked to make them feel as collective victims that the only responses possible are either these and saying the patriarchy hurts men as well.

The UN stats about journalist deaths and famous homelessness statistic are other examples.

All these exemplify how awful these people are/have been and will always be in the education and legal system.

Feminists place greater value on women's suffering than men's regardless of the situation. From that perspective, a woman trying to kill herself is of greater importance than a man succeeding in taking his life, even if the latter is preventable.

The most successful method for women, which is poisoning, is still more successful with men than women.
Saying that it's because men are more likely to choose "violent" methods is a form of victim blaming and invalidating people's pain. You're treating them like they're naturally violent people and almost like their death is their own fault.

I think the most disgusting thing I saw related to this is this woman told a story about how a guy told her he would rather commit sewer-slide than lose her from his life and she just wasn't having it and blocked him. Then, he actually went through with it.

Someone said they were sorry she had to go through that and "clearly he was just trying to manipulate you and being selfish"

I don't remember what the context was if any was given but like....if he went through with it, clearly he wasn't lying.

Due to a high level of cognitive dissonance, people like this have a sort of psychic pressure cooker working inside them. Unless some of that pressure gets released somehow, this can build up and cause a great deal of distress. One thing that works as a sort of steam valve is projection. They know deep down they're wrong, but they definitely don't want to admit that to anyone, and they don't want to feel bad inside either. So the subconscious manufactures a scapegoat to take the blame for them instead. Gaslighting is a handy tool in service of this scapegoating.

It's not really because men are more violent. Men try more effective methods of suicide like putting a bullet in their head/hanging where women try less effective methods like poison/overdosing. An unsuccessful suicide attempt can absolutely fuck up your life so I feel bad for the women, but it's just wrong to make such a blanket statement.

On a more serious note, as I understand it men will attempt suicide (and often succeed) because they have tried to make their situation better and failing, feeling lost.

Women attempt suicide to get attention, which is why they are often less lethal attempts.

Feminists can't have it for men to not be painted as warmongering lunatics because it would defeat their arguments, simple as that.

Interesting thing happened. Really surprised me! Got tagged by Reddit as a male using the term misandry often enough to get singled out by their AI! The message said a machine had noted it, but a human will check it out to see if it's hate speech or not (it wasn't and the human cleared me entirely of any hint of hate speech). But I don't think the machine searches for women who use the word mysogeny too often. I could certainly be incorrect about that. But if it's true, then even Reddit is critical of men using misandry but not critical of women using mysogeny. A clearly sexist double standard. I truly hope that is not the case. That would make even Reddit's AI sexist against men. Anyone know if they do tag women who use the word mysogeny with any regularity? Because there sure are an awful LOT of them!

It is really fucked up to do this and I think that people who actually go out to social media and claim those things should be totally canceled. Unfortunately this is how far women can go when they try to win "gender equality" but honestly those women that say those shit aren't feminists. They are just men haters. Woman here. I did see these kind of messages circulated (although worded slightly differently and not necessarily in "feminists" spheres - but that's not to invalidate your experience). I do think it's wrong to state something like thus espcially if it's to silence other people trying to share their experience, but they do kind of have a point, i'll explain. Actually the ones I saw were worded slightly differently, saying that men usually are more successful because they tend to use more violent means (weapons etc).

Kind of a parallel question, what I also did see or experience when talking about a male friend of mine who committed suicide, or having suicidal ideation myself, was a lot of people saying we were selfish for having these thoughts. I can't be sure but it felt like more often than not, these accusations came from men. How come ?
