I don’t know why I am posting here. Maybe, like many of you, I don’t have anybody else to turn to. I lost my best and only true friend. The person who knows the best and worst of me, my deepest secrets, fears, desires, everything.

I’ve noticed the trend in feeling blindsided. I was fortunate to be married to a wonderful woman who unfortunately lost sight of the wonderful husband I thought I was being.

At first, I thought she rushed directly from kinda unhappy to full blown divorce and throwing in the towel. Talking to her over the past two days showed me it was a long road she took to arrive at her decision. 1-2+ years of angst and resentment slowly breaking the foundation of our marriage.

I don’t disagree with a single point she made about how my actions or words caused her pain until she finally checked out completely. I’ve always been quick to think of a solution, but never fixed the underlying problem. I thought I was doing the right thing and always held myself in a high regard to the effort I put into our marriage.

Today a light bulb clicked. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t have any other option, but I finally understood what listening truly meant. What a tough way to learn this lesson, but I suppose it was the only way. It clearly wasn’t clicking before.

I don’t know what tomorrow brings.
