Just got into it with my co-worker. She was a women's studies major and preaches gender equality with every opportunity she gets. So she comes back from lunch today and tells me how it really bothers her when she's in an elevator with a man and he doesn't let her out first when the doors open. I told her that its because she feels entitled to be let out first because she's a girl, which is a contradiction to her belief in gender equality. After about ten minutes of reflection and failed attempts to talk her way around my statement, she resigned to saying, "well women should be let out first because we have harder lives and men lead lives of privilege."

As a side note, when she asked about my conduct in an elevator, I told her that I treat everyone the same. If you're closer to the door than I am, then by all means, get off the elevator first. Additionally, this was seen by her as offensive.

Equality, feminist style.
