I’m a big fan of doing what you want, but stepping back and seeing the rising amount of $ made off of women to fit popular beauty standards is unsettling when you think of where these ideas are coming from in the first place.

i had always wanted labiaplasty growing up until recently. i thought about WHY i wanted it and it was years of seeing gross roast beef and ham pictures comparing women’s vaginas to deli meat. fuck that noise. my body is MY body and i’m loving it now

It blows my mind how many women have insisted that I NEEEEEEEEED to start contouring my face. And when I tell them I'm fine with my features, I don't want to change or "enhance" them and I'm not interested in layering more makeup on my face, they get so personally offended and nasty.

I'm 40 and I don't remember this happening when I was younger. I don't remember women getting angry at other women for not wearing makeup, or not wearing enough makeup. I don't know when it changed but it disturbs the shit out of me. Women hounding me that I need to make myself more attractive for men. I had to tell my own sister that I'm not interested in fucking her so I don't need to make myself more sexually attractive to her in order to shut her up about it.

I like wearing a little makeup, but my biggest pet peeve is the rise of what I call the “Kardashian makeup” trend of the last decade or so. I’m talking caked on foundation and concealer, heavy false lashes and mascara, contour, etc. Then add plastic surgery, photoshop and instagram/snapchat filters. It makes me sad that women have always had to deal with impossible and dangerous beauty standards. In the 90’s they made “heroin chic” eating disorders fashionable. In the 2000’s it was in style to be skinny with huge fake breasts. Don’t even get me started on women literally risking their lives or health for BBL surgeries because of the Kardashians insisting that they all never have had work done.

I had a revelation about this this morning.

I'm fat. I'm a size 16 right now, and I've never been smaller than a 12, not since middle school. And you know what? I fucking love my body. I feel like 95% of the time I look hot as hell. I wear clothes that I personally find attractive. I do my hair and makeup so in ways that make me feel pretty for me. I dont want to lose weight. If I genuinely wanted to be thinner I would be by now, but I dont want to be because my body is absolutely fantastic just the way it is.

I would like to be more active, and to move my body more and have more stamina during physical activity. So I want to engage in more activity. Id love to take up dance again, id love to start weight lifting. Once the pandemic is over i probably will. But not because I want to be thinner or fit into someone else's beauty standards. I fit my own just fine, thank you very much.

Exactly!!! It’s a fine line because I do love my injectables... and would consider surgery in the future if I could afford it. BUT I’m also so aware of these fucking ridiculous beauty standards and where they come from. Which makes me really not want to do these things on principle.

I was actually just thinking today - what’s the point?! It’s never good enough. I wish women collectively would just give up and own everything about themselves naturally.

Who are our looks benefiting? Sure, we like looking pretty and young... but we would probably pick a bright blue eye shadow and non-sexual things to enhance our appearance if we were in charge. This is benefiting men. Some women are so consumed with the beauty industry it is almost like slavery or a second job or spending 1/3 of their income. I know many women who get their nails done weekly and hair monthly plus all the creams and makeup and Botox. Even just teeth whitening and box dye. I literally spent an hour a day... 7 hours a week... 30 hours a month doing my hair. 30 hours a month just on my hair! Not even my makeup. It’s an extra week’s paycheck right there. We are literally spending so much money to conform to the young sexy look that men want. That’s not what women automatically would want. We have been brainwashed and are being mentally trapped.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing to be concerned how you look or want to improve it. A lot of the time it can overlap with improving health.

I guess I wish men did it more lol.
