I'm a cab driver in Denver. As such, I know the city really really well, but when I'm driving, I'm also extremely busy, and my time is valuable (in direct dollars generated, not just in the grand scheme of things).

I'm stopped, picking up the first half of a group of people on a short dead-end road in Golden when these two women drive their car up behind me. They say that they are lost, and ask if I know where to find a sports stadium. They literally ask me if I can help them find a "sports stadium". I ask if they have a name, and one woman says, "It's a guy's name or something, can you help?". I say "no" and walk away to get in my cab and continue doing my job.

I'm happy to help if it doesn't cost me anything, but this is going to take longer than just a few seconds, and THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING about where they are going.

I get in my cab, and they pull around in front of me, get out, and ask one of my future passengers if they can help. They guy looks at her and says, "Why don't you ask the cab driver? He's the one who knows where stuff is." and she replies, "He's an asshole." My passenger also declined to help them, as he commented moments later when we were moving, "She said you were an asshole, and my thought was that she was a bitch."

Previous beta me would have gone out of his way to help these poor women in distress. But there is literally nothing in it for me, and they are costing me money. They didn't have any useful information at all for me, other than "sports stadium". Had they said, "Where the lacrosse is being played", or "Dick's Sporting Goods Park", or, "Where they usually play soccer" or any of a number of other useful descriptors, I could have helped her.

She seemed to think she was entitled to my assistance, and when I didn't immediately stop working to help her, she made a big show of trying to find a 'better' man to help her, I guess trying to shame me or something.
