The only issue is that it’s extremely hard to prove rape. Even if you can prove sex, it’s hard to prove that it was rape instead of rough, consensual sex. I agree that you can’t simply believe in every single accusation, but this is a tricky situation, and I think that I better slogan would be #takewomenseriously. That doesn’t mean you have to believe in every accusation. It just means that you shouldn’t dismiss an accusation simply because there’s no evidence. A lack of evidence does not mean that something did not happen.

Hopefully the new culture of belief will encourage women to come forward straight away if they were legitimately raped. Everyone deserves due process in the legal system.

I do think a victim's account should be deliberated and not quickly dismissed.

#ListenToThem is something I just made up but would make a better hashtag? Listen to the alleged victim and the alleged accused.

#HeForShe is wrong because it indoctrinates young boys starting at nursery school that women are default weak, lack agency, and should be coddled by men. In fact it tells young girls the same thing. I hate it.

Explanation about believing women and due process. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Well-meaning people have misunderstood the point of "Believe the victim". It's not supposed to mean that we should believe everything an alleged victim says is fact, it means we're supposed to treat them and their story as if it was true. There's a difference.

Historically, lots of rapists have gone free because when the victim told their story, they were questioned and discouraged at every turn; "believe the victim" simply means "we" - as in the police, the press, the public - should treat their story as true, treat them as a victim of rape, and investigate to our utmost ability, something which historically has not happened.

At the same time we should treat the accused innocent until proven guilty. I realize this sounds contradictory, but it's actually not.

And if you need further clarification: One's about the emotional support and response, and the other is about practicality and fact finding. Don't respond to an accusation with "well, I don't know anything, so I can't give you any support". Also don't respond to it with "WHY HASN'T THE ACCUSED BEEN EXECUTED YET!"

I think you're under the impression that "BelieveWomen" means "Believe Every Aspect Of Their Anecdotes Unconditionally" instead of what it actually means: "Believe A Woman When She Tells You She's Been Assaulted So You Can Help Her Move Forward."

I don't know if this misunderstanding is intentional or not, but it's a misunderstanding nonetheless. For the record, I BelieveMen who come forward with their stories as well.

Every male witness testimony is worth 2 female witness testimonies to me. Believe women is right that you should believe women, but you have to multiply the belief level by 0.5.

I can understand why victims of assault wouldn't report right away. I am a woman who did not report sexual assault, mainly because my overly-religious mother would have considered me "ruined" for not being a virgin anymore.

That being said...I 100% agree that #Believewomen is wrong. Women are not somehow more morally pure than men. Women lie. How about #PursueTruth???

The issue is the belief that thinking about something and feeling about something are somehow the same thing. I know lots of women who have been raped and are taking this whole ridiculousness super personally. They FEEL triggered, they project themselves onto this woman, and suddenly it's personal. Now the whole "Patriarchy" (which FEELS like every negative encounter they have personally had with a man) is silencing "THEM". All us women are not one group, one identity. There are good women and bad women. Truth-tellers and liars. We've all been all of those things at one point or another.

But this #BelieveWomen bs is Toxic Feminism. It privileges the gender of the person speaking over the truth of what is being said.
