Because giving and receiving compliments feels nice. It's really as simple as that. I do think you're exaggerating a little - "You're so brave" is not something I've ever come across.

Don't be jelly that me and my besties affirm one another and are affectionate. It's why we have heart attacks less and don't feel like we're dying if we aren't in a relationship or getting sex.

It also helps when we're annoyed with one another because we have plenty of fond and enthusiastic memories to fall on to better forgive or get over it.

This is xSFJ behavior. Since xSFJ is by far the most common personality type among women, yeah, you see a lot of it. There are plenty of non-xSFJ women out there, but you probably don't notice them, since they're not posting this kind of stuff and may not even have much of a social media presence at all.

I'm a woman in my mid-20s, and I don't see a lot of this on my social media feeds anymore. I DID see a lot of that 10 years ago as a teenager. I think a lot of women receive and internalize the message growing up that they must look a certain way in order to be worthy of love and belonging, and so those type of positive comments are their way to fight back against that message, to tell each other that you DON'T have to look a certain way to be "worthy". Especially for younger, more insecure women who have low self-esteem.

Personally, I think conflating self-worth with your appearance is a huge problem in our culture that leads to many mental health problems.

Gender expectations. Men are expected to be sure of themselves and stoic at all times. Women are allowed to be unsure of themselves. It's interesting that you think it's infantilizing. I think men would be better off if they propped each other up like that.

You're exaggerating, but you're definitely right in that women like to "baby" each other.

It has a lot to do with how it's much more accepting for women to be motherly and soft-natured, whilst seeming youthful. All of these traits in women are often glorified. In contrast, men are expected to be masculine and stray away from soft traits when they grow older.

What is kind of fucked up is that I don't infantilize anyone, not even infants! This is the way my family is. My dad and I in particular never baby talk the new members of our family, which I believe is part of the reason they grow up to have 130+ IQs.

Treat people like children and they will act like children, so you are no father ahead.

Women? I will dominate, I will lead but never treat them like a child.
