Done successfully the woman is mostly ignored and it's a dismantling of the SO until the relationship crashes and burns. I honestly thing 90% of men only get married to keep their GFs happy. Given the opportunity, most men will say 'nah, fuck it'. It's not that they're MORE committed, they are just backed up against a wall.

The only useful function of a marriage is if you're a women who's committed several years of her life to being a SAHM, and should you divorce - you get some compensation for putting your career on hold.
