With any kind of anthropological study, once it goes into conjecture, the analysis immediately becomes retarded.

Agriculture did a couple of things. It gave people leisure time. It allowed for immense stratification in society. It allowed for religion to become institutionalized. It markedly lowered the quality of diet. Allowed for cities and settled life. Created a population boom.

All of these factors advantaged the common woman. Life was still nasty brutish and short, and men were still expendable. As well, women were a form of property. Men were only property as slaves.

You also had all sorts of wild stuff like religious prostitutes.

So this isn't evidence of women being whores, it's just evidence that women then, as today, have a privileged position.

Edit: The reason for the mtdna type boom at 90k ago could have been from interbreeding with neanderthals. They couldn't pass on their y chromosomes because homo sapiens females could not have their kids but neanderthal females could have homo sapiens kids.

This is right around the time that the first references to human castration/eunuchs are found so it may not be hypergamy here. The theory of hypergamy really only applies to situations where a woman has freedom of choice. It is very likely there was an artificial constriction of options back then. Gender stratification also came in with the advent of agriculture, alongside economic stratification. It seems that the cause is more so powerful men at the top of cultural hierarchies taking "resources" for themselves and "away" from other men than it is hypergamy.

In the wild the alpha male breeds all the females shouldnt it have been even more hypergamous (not sure if thats even the right word as females didnt get to pick who won the fight for mates) than farmers?
