The longer I learn all about this stuff the less I believe in soulmates. Though there is still a flicker in my soul for the concept of soulmates (the romantic in me that I must hide from the world). Still going strong against the crushing cynical realism of women.

Soul mates crap is largely built on hopes and desires of someone too invested in traditional monogamy to realise the truth that we have millions of people who are compatible with them. There's not just one special person out of the billions of people on Earth who is your magical soulmate across all of eternity for mystical woo woo reasons. That's obviously ridiculous.

But there are people that you can form a very strong, emotionally deep relationship with that feels like you connect with each other on a different level. And relationships that strong are so rare that it's unlikely that you will experience it more than once or twice in your whole life. When people talk about "soulmates" that's what they're really talking about.

No I do not think there is one soulmate out there for everybody there are lots of potential partners for people who want one. When people are in a happy and satisfying relationship they call that person a soulmate.

Sometime in high school in I was thinking about the population growth on Earth and that we'd gotten to the point where the entire population of Europe years ago now exists within individual cities. So if people in Europe years ago were meant to find "soul mates" back then, then nowadays you would have an equivalent "soul mate" in every large city. And then you add in the fact that people couldn't travel much in the past anyway and probably never even encountered that many people. So basically was population grows the number of potential "soul mates" grows, too. And the farther back in time the fewer of us there were.

So really who know how many "soul mates" each of us has at this point.

Short answer: nope.

Long answer: I have some complicated personal ideas and feelings about what constitutes a soul mate or soul mates, but it doesn't line up with the popular notion of there being a single person for every other person in existence.

My "one that got away" was a cheater in the making, and in hindsight I believe there's a good chance he would have cheated on me as well. No regrets.

Soulmates? Not really, no. The one that got away? Sort of, in that regrets are a thing; but those feelings usually resolve themselves once you find someone else to fall in love with.

When I think about soulmates I think about the married forever still in love couple. Because of this I believe soul mates are created over time. By living your life with someone in a earnest fashion eventuality you become very much like each other, hence soulmates.

I believe that you can have exceptional compatibility with some people. Calling it "soul mates" seems to take it into a metaphysical realm unnecessarily. But finding that compatibility where you kind of intuit one another in addition to sharing other types of chemistry/attraction can seem like metaphysically good luck if nothing else.

Personally no. It's pretty convenient that out of the billions of people on earth so many people found their soulmate in a 50 mile radius of where they live.

There's plenty of people out there who you could be happy with. Most of the time I find people who refer to "the one that got away" either never dated that person long enough to find their flaws or are viewing an ex through rose coloured glasses and only remembering the good times and forgetting the bad.

Sort of. There's mathematically several million people who could be your soulmate, but the realities of time and space mean that you'll probably only cross paths with a handufl of them in the right time and place. Most people have a few soulmates in their life, but might only actually get in a serious relationship with one of them.

Not really. I'm religious so I believe that everything happens for a reason and that I'll end up with whoever I'm meant to be with. But I think that you can be compatible with many different people and most people won't find their perfect match (but that's okay).
