I think it's two parts. First, it's a strip club with an infinite audience. There's no cover, no overcharged drinks; they cut out the pimp and the bar owner. That's fine, it's direct-to-consumer production; those kinds of market efficiencies have worked out in the past.

Second, the west has developed a culture of shamelessness when it comes to being a sex work patron and porn/strip clubs haven't caught up with the cultural milieu. It's a difference in marketing: Porn studios and strip clubs think of themselves almost as a private shame or guilty pleasure. Onlyfans creators often say they're just a regular part of life.

I'm sure men being left out in the cold does contribute to the success of a handful of people on onlyfans, but, I doubt it's the only reason.

Average OF content creator only makes a few hundred a month. Belle Delphine is by far the exception.

Also the reason she's so successful is because she looks like an irl anime waifu so she's very tapped in to the weeb market. And to answer your question I think it's a combination of both. We are putting off relationships/marriage more which means women spend more time casually dating/ having hookups which naturally favors a disproportionate subset of men and then throw online dating into the mix which makes it even easier for women to find hot guys to hookup with it probably does leave a higher % of men desperate for intimacy than in previous times. However onlyfans does also make these kind of sexual services more accessible to lonely men than what would have been available previously.

Onlyfans does not represent the actual market as its only a select few that make that much money. One of my fav analytic blogs did a post on them and found that The top 1% of accounts make 33% of all the money. The top 10% of accounts make 73% of all the money. insert bernie imitation here

It operates just like an MLM: a small percentage of users make most of the money, users get a commission for each person they are able to make an account through their referral link (that's their downline), and most of the users on there invest a lot of their time and energy into their account for a loss, if not a very small profit. Even the way girls market their only fans feel like those who are deep into MLM's. They constantly promote their account and use any chance to plug their onlyfans.

Onlyfans has provided a unique version of intimacy and prostitution that proliferated due to the pandemic. I think it will pass eventually by slowly becoming unpopular or with a bang by some sort of data breach.

How many actual women like that exist? 100? Even less than that? Certain women with a high level of fame already (ex. Bella Thorne), or who got in at the perfect time, or who were the first person to come up with a really good idea to leverage their Only Fans account will be very successful. 99% will never sniff that level of success. The vast majority will not be able to make a living off of it. There's this notion among some that any random woman can easily go on Only Fans and make good money. That is total delusion.

Regarding the market place, Only Fans is the natural progression with technology of the market place. You have a lot of guys who would go to strip clubs and blow a lot of money on women, or go to prostitutes, or spend a ton on porn, that is where a lot of the business is coming from. Is it drawing in some new men? Absolutely. Not enough to be a game changer. That attention was going to go some place, Only Fans was the thing that was in the right place at the right time to capitalize on it.
