Everyone Is After Your Time

Facebook made $40 Billion USD selling your attention to advertisers in 2017. That's one company. Making billions. By selling your time.

How much is our attention worth? Trillions of dollars. The top 100 companies in the world that make money from consumer advertising are worth trillions of dollars. And all of them rely on one thing. You wasting your time.

What about women?

They want your time too. They are insecure. They are attention seeking because you wasting your attention on them makes them feel valuable.

Your loser friends who hate their dead end jobs and invite you to play video games?

They want your time too. Your spending time with them is a salve to the open-wound that is their shitty existence.

There is nothing more valuable in the world than your time. Even the markets agree on this one. Everyone and everything around you is trying to steal your time from you. They are using you. They are using you to feel better about themselves. They are using you to make money (for them). They are using you because you're a bitch and are okay with being used.

Stop being a bitch. Start prioritizing yourself. Everything is about you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is delusional. How are you spending your time? This isn't a rhetorical question. Figure this shit out.

I made a list of all of my distractions. And annihilated them.

  • There are browser extensions you can install to block websites you waste time on.
  • Turn off your phone whenever you don't need to be using it. Or at very least delete all the stupid apps you waste time on.
  • Cut toxic people out of your life. You don't need friends who are losers.
  • The default answer to anything anyone asks of you should be no. Life is too short to be spending all of your time on other people.

Figure out how you are spending your time, and start redirecting it towards building a better life for yourself.

Stop letting other people siphon your time away from you.

Zarathustra isn't a good place to start if you want to actually understand Nietzsche, though even if you don't it's still worth reading for the poetic imagery (what got me hooked before I decided to study him seriously).

Nietzsche's writing style takes a lot of getting used to so I'd recommend The Genealogy of Morality as the easiest to follow. Definitely look up some secondary literature (the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is great for this) to give you an idea of the background, themes and arguments of the book.

Look around when you go about your day. Enforcing default-compliance mindset is practically dripping off of every single surface of western civilization. Audio, Visual, kinesthetic, I challenge you to find any thing idea or concept where suggested compliance doesn't exist.

It's why young women are often terrified of going outside. Outside is teeming with dumpster fires to which you must be obedient and compliant to. If you stay inside, you don't have to be obedient to them. But the parents boot you out, so that is traumatizing.

What will really open your eyes is when you hear it in almost every lyric of every musical tune and dialog on every radio station. On every youtube channel, every news blurb, every subreddit, in the military, in school, in highschool, in secondary education, at the grocery store, at the car repair shop, I mean everywhere in a literal sense.

Look for it, and you see it's like water, it drips off every surface. Seeing what you see is like a fish discovering water. Take advantage of it. Run into a crowded room and yell out for someone to give you money and use a few textbook invocations of psychological manipulation, and I guarantee you you'll have a few hundred dollars sitting your palm. It's why there are so many professional middle class beggars out there in cities.

Just sit on the side of the road and cry, and people will literally toss money at you. It's disgusting.

Even the possibility of interruption prevents your mental freight train from getting up to speed and staying there. Your brain is naturally over-active and can't turn off meaningless tasks enough to focus on very important tasks except in such times where your limbic system knows interruptions won't occur, like in the car or in the shower or at night. Your brain allocates too much of its hardware to millisecond accurate response times to sudden meaningless stimulus because it incorrectly believes those are the most important processes to stay alive.

The way I've found to achieve peak productivity is by hiring someone else to hold my agenda to what I and others know to be optimal. Running 6 miles 3 or 2 times a week and lifting. My office has a lock on it, I put the smartphone on do not disturb and I tell myself: "Even if it's an emergency, it's going to have to wait until I'm done". Everyone in the house knows that when the door is closed, it means don't come in unless the building is on fire.

Having a mentor or hero who was extremely successful in life who shares your genetic code personality build parameters is better than having a random mentor and hero who has a completely different style than you. if your an introvert, have introverts as hero. Those are harder to find, because they're rarely up on stage being filmed.

Amen to that bro, I cannot express just how much I agree with everything on this post. Recently came to this same very conclusion myself. You all know how people look after their money - what to spend it on, what's too expensive or what's too low quality to buy, etc. Well, I believe that one should be ten times more careful and considerate about how they spend their time. Time is fucking expensive, no, it is priceless, and yet we waste so much of it on absolute BULLSHIT things and BULLSHIT people. If you work in the corporate world, capitalize on that number. Get your shit done right away, but don't tell everyone you did. Sit back and relax or start on the new project and hand it your completed project on time. If you always get things done early (again in the corporate world), people will expect that new expedited turn around time, leaving you stressed and short on time if you suddenly get swamped with multiple projects.

A great way to lead a career of mediocrity. Start a new project like you said or study/improve your craft. Not only are you getting paid to improve yourself, but employers WILL notice the difference between the guy who relaxes and the guy who uses that time to improve, and your career will reflect this.

Jordan Peterson has a great talk about this. He describes a student studying and asks them how long did they for.

"4 hours."

"Bullshit. You studied for 20 minutes and then went on Facebook or Youtube for the rest of the time."

He said instead of saying you're going to study for hours on end, just study for 30 minutes, but really study. Get into the books and study correctly without stopping and then stop. Do this for one week and see what happens.

Everyone who went at their work this way gained immensely. The amount of time we waste is incredible and if we harnessed that time, every man would be a walking Greek demigod.

Since swallowing TRP I have become much more protective with my time and will literally walk away from someone mid sentence if they are talking about meaningless stuff. The old me would have thought this to be rude. I work with a lot of women a have started doing this all the time; I have a lot to do and no time for drama BS.
Put yourself first and do what you need to do to get the most out of your waking hours. Unless someone is adding value to your life excuse yourself and get back to something meaningful.

This is a good post, especially on annihilating distractions. But, I actually take the INVERTED perspective.

Everything I do is about other people - but strictly the ones who matter. My parents, my employer, my future children, and most importantly, the people whose lives I will affect through competence in my career. I restrict my time to the people who care about me, and the people who depend on me.

I disagree that everything is about me. If I really felt that way, I'd be happy enough with wine, weed, and wifi. Rather, a genuinely better life for myself necessarily involves better lives for everyone important to me. That's honestly the only place joy can be found.

The most common activities in Western society anesthetize i.e. video games, tv, shopping, drinking, weed, porn, etc. Remove the influences jamming conformity notions into your life, and you will be forced to find value producing activities.

ill counter that video games dont have to be a time waster. yes you go online and play vs people who waste all day and it feels like that after a while, but its also a great challenge to compete against people spending a lot more time at something. tv, I like documentaries or movies, or even music channels so I can directy my focus elsewhere. a movie takes more time than a tv show, but its one consistent narrative with a definitive end, there is wasting time and then there is rushing around pointlessly without a good attention span. Just saying Gym, MMA, Sports, for one person these may represent a new focus on health and fitness, for another person this is their time waster. statistically distance running is the only exercise that gives you the time spent back, though id expect the same for rowing a boat as its also sustained progress across an enviroment for signifiant cardiovascular effort.

I think that’s why it’s all the more important to figure out what you want and to be your best.

Spending the time to figure out yourself and knowing what you want should be the goal. Proper handling of relationships while being your best and doing your best.

There’s nothin to point to as to what is your best, only you can figure that out once you’ve done the ground work for understanding yourself.

I still think our base line level of of education of the human vessel needs to be increased. But idk man, that’s a different topic all together.

Your post is good food for thought but it makes arguments based on emotion and can be dismissed as ranting.

Facebook is just a marketplace of exchange. Reddit right here right now is taking your eyeball in the same way Facebook did, but I don't see you ranting about the evils of Reddit stealing away your eyeball's value.

By providing a greater return on investment to those people who used it at the time. This isn't zero sum, it's a positive sum game. Facebook provided each of their customers a service much like all the other companies operating a service based economy. Just because a mechanic shop fixed your car 10 years ago and now your car is broken again doesn't mean the mechanic shop stole your money. In the same way facebook didn't steal your eyeball's money per unit time. You gave little and you received more in return. Facebook could have charged you a dollar per day and not sold off your eyeball, and wham, we all end up in the same place.

How much is our attention worth? Trillions of dollars.

Generously assuming Facebook net income was 3 trillion dollars, spread out over say 1 billion people serviced over 10 years. That would put the price of eyeballs per day at 1 dollar per day. Sure you're giving up the cost of your 1 dollar per day, but you're getting 2 dollars value in return.

What about women? They want your time too.

It's not a phenomenon unique to women, men also are trying to get other women and men to play video games with them. And maybe it's because they like you and want to spent time. It's not a trap, it's friendship.

False. I have 12 hours of time to do stuff in a day, but my income generating assets are still pumping cash into my accounts even though I'm sitting here wasting my time here. So use me as a counter example. I'm wasting my time here, yet I'm still earning more than most people who put their time to good use. Your arguments are missing the mark in a big way.

You're not even aware of how to represent the male female mathematics of game theory in multivariate equation form. People act like they are wasting time when they interact with others, whether that is doing something together or helping them.

I don't see any problems, I only see brittle people shifting blame from themselves to others in a massive group. And when the lemmings get to running in a direction, it feels like a tidal wave shift. But really nothing is changing at all. It's the ides of march phenomenon and the increase sunlight increasing their naturally occurring vitamin D which gets the rats out of their dugout mud cave and into the summer sunlight.

I enjoy these conversations because when you see what direction all the shithead lemmings run, you can position yourself to profit and capture coins that drop out of their wallets as they run doubletime.

They think they're so edgy by nuking their facebook, guarding their attention. Zuckerberg doesn't care, he's a businessman with a net worth of 40 billion, he's reading this along side us, and he's like: "well I dun fucked up, time for damage control". Even if facebook goes to a 40b liability. He just declares bankruptcy and the limited liability shell games take it on the chin.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mark wants his facebook to die, so he's yanking the heart plugs out as it bleeds to death under mismanagement. Mark is not an idiot, everything he does is calculated. He's probably got the next thing setup as Zuckerberg buys hard assets and all you dipshits start getting some sun and getting a job. And he profits from you AGAIN.

It's clockwork. The lifestock being taken haven't the intellectual horsepower to see how magnificently they've been taken. Even as you finally "Break out of this terrible cage" you find it's just another cage on the other side, and you find the movement was exactly what the owner wanted for you. A pig thinks he escapes his cage when he runs full tilt down the slaughter conveyor and slaughter chute.

I feel like a pig outside the cage and outside the conveyor with pigs running full tilt yelling at me to get with the program. I'm already out of the system, because I understand it. I'm the one who has some interest in maintaining your cage. You think these elaborate systems just tease themselves into existence? Follow the money trail. And 40b just went supernova.

I wish every person who sits home watching CNN, FOX News and MSNBC could understand this. They peddle lies, emotions, and persuasion. You cannot change one single thing they talk about and nobody even tries to change anything. It is a waste of time and attention and only serves to erode your consciousness, between commercials which rot your consciousness. I refuse to give my power over to these people.

Instead, I focus on things I can control and improve, and most days that may only be watering my plants, but I am still making the world a better place that way.

On the subway, or any area where there are women, if you walk as if they don’t exist that’s when they start doing the stupidest shenanigans like fidgeting, tapping and pointing their heels, flipping their hair towards you, trying to bump into/ enter your vicinity, sighing loudly, raising their voice while talking to someone else, taking obnoxious selfies, or straight up staring at you. Women can be just as thirsty as guys in their own way.
