Hypothetical new dating app: you see a girl’s profile, as well as the average guy she has dated/hooked up with. How does that change your dating strategy?

I’d feel like I knew who I actually had a chance with.

For example, I had a huge crush on a girl in high school. We were actually quite close but she was way out of my league and a few of my friends convinced me that she was out of my league and not to mess up what we had by asking her out.

I stupidly took their advice.

Years later we reconnected on Facebook and I do the usual scroll stalk through pics.

Her last two ex’s were, I’m just being honest, not the best looking guys and the three before that all looked like some variation of me.

I later found out from a mutual friend that she’d really like me and always assumed that I’d never asked her out because I hadn’t fancied her 😑

That app would’ve been useful about 15 years ago.

No, thank you. If this were the only dating app available I’d stick to exclusively real life. If there are other apps available, I’d choose the ones that showed me more women than men. This is like going to the library and looking for a biography on your favorite historical figure by spending hours in the YA fiction section.

EDIT: I should say that your “limited swipes gimmick” sounds a lot like Coffee Meets Bagel, which I DID use to some success back in my single days. So I do like that aspect of your idea! It also curbs addiction. Didn’t want to be completely negative.

I mean, I used these apps briefly. And I always read the profile, so pretty sure I would get the same result lol. I mean "Tired of drama!" No you are not go away. "I have two boys that are my world" Then maybe step off Tinder? Go away. "Just looking for something real" all of the above.

I am also not a ONS type of guy, but lets say I was, then no. I would still just swipe if they were hot and not really care about her past guys. I mean, we are just there to have fun, right?

Honestly... I think my patterns would change.

If the guys were all uglier than her, maybe she plays it safe so she doesn’t get hurt. Don’t want that.

If the guys are all hotter than her, she is unaware of how she’s being used for sex, and might have an inflated ego. Pass.

If she’s got a good mix of guys OR the guys are similar to her in attractiveness... I’d probably go for that woman.

With the caveat that I've never used OLD... man, that would trigger my insecurities. I wouldn't even care about the "average" I'd be in full-on competition mode with the guys and zero in on whichever felt like the "biggest threat" and I'd probably just bounce on most. It seems like the woman would somehow become secondary to the calculus. That also just seems like TMI way too soon. And can you imagine the boring convo where everyone is talking about "oh that ex of yours looks hot, what went wrong?"

Maybe it could possibly work if just showed you like a sampling of who they swipe on not necessarily who they've actually been with. But even that seems mostly useless. If you both swipe each other it seems like that's all anyone needs to get started.

I have in the past signed up for only one, an ego boost and was saddened by what I saw on there so jumped off it and deleted my account.

So in reality my behaviour wouldn't change at all.

But hypothetically if this were implemented, then I think it would change some men's behaviour, they'd see instantly if they have a chance at matching with somebody. So in that regard you'd probably see women getting less matches after a few dates so that your algorithm could show the types she has dated.

I think though for those women who are themselves using the apps for an ego boost they'd see a similar effect in that they'd get far less matches.

There is a problem with this that I can see which is currently you get access to a wide selection of possible matches will be reduced to a smaller selection, the problem with that being that a relationship is founded on far more than just appearance and a profile, showing the same or similar people with the same or similar profiles can greatly increase the repeating cycles of failing relationships.

It could work though.

Since in this scenario swipes are rationed I would use knowledge about the exes to better guess which women I have a shot with (and it's not just about how attractive those exes were, it's also about seeing what her niches are, which would help non-white guys or guys with long hair, to name some examples). If swipes weren't rationed I'd use the knowledge to better guess which ones I would only pursue for sex.

Yeah sure, if a woman has a whole bunch of guys that she has been with, it means that she's either slept with all of those guys, or unsuccessfully tried to date them without sleeping with them. The first of these qualities is not something desirable to me, since I'm a low N guy myself. The second of these things is a red flag that there are some qualities about her that makes her unsuitable for a relationship with most men. The women who I consider most suitable for me are the ones who have had few dates with other men.

I don't really care about the attractiveness of the previous guys who she has dated.

I would just write a program to optimally do the swiping for me since 10 swipes is very limiting . First I would filter the women by my preferred characteristics then I would select the profiles based on how similar I am to some averaged model of their preferred guy. Then I would get of the app and never check back to see if I get any matches.

This would actually be a pretty cool dating app but so incredibly wrong in terms of privacy.

This would be a very good thing to see. I could immediately rule out certain girls because I know I don't stand a chance with them.

Although it's usually quite obvious based on the looks of a girl whether they would be attracted to me. Many girls I just know I stand no chance of dating, so I don't even bother to engage contact with them in any way.

Not really at all. I can usually more or less guess what the "average guy" any woman has dated looks like. I don't necessarily look like the "average" guy the woman I like has dated in the past (i.e. I have a big boy job, I'm clean cut, I have touched a barbell before), and that's often a bonus.

I think some context is needed:
- Is this for LTR dating? Or a hookup app?

- Are we seeing her past relationships? Or her ONS guys?

Cause the effect on a guy may be different depending on what guys in her history we're seeing. On a hookup app where women are height filtering guys, for instance, short guys would just be demoralized to see that confirmed.

I think the most useful thing is that the swipes are limited, cause I'm told most guys just swipe on everyone indiscriminately to cast a wide net. (though if I was on dating apps I'd be a bit more picky) Having limited swipes would force men to be more picky.

If we're talking a LTR app, I think it should include contact info of her exes so you can hear from them how things went down.

(Also, I'm curious how women would respond to a similar question, if they could see the women a guy's been with.)
