To be fair, I’m not sure if she’s dropping hints to get a ring or to let him know what ring exactly she wants. If it’s latter no harm in that, jewelry is costly I prefer letting my man know what models I want exactly rather than letting him choose by himself as we don’t have the same taste

Unpopular opinion: unless it’s a “shut the f*** up/don’t leave me right,” an engagement ring symbolizes the consideration for the promise to marry. It should reflect her style/preferences, since she’ll be wearing it every day. It’s kind of a public declaration of how much she means to you & how valuable she is to you. Obviously the cost etc. should consider where the couple is in life/finances. I get a lot of flack for that opinion, but think about it—is the woman you supposedly love & adore worth less to you than your gaming habit?! Do you view a symbol of your love for her as a burden/annoyance not worth saving for? She provides SO MUCH to you that is not only uncompensated, but you take it for granted & expect it. If she’s going to pledge herself to you, and you alone—you should be showing her that she is choosing the right man. Ladies—do you want to shackle yourself to a man who doesn’t think you’re worth more than some cheap Pandora crap? As wrong as it may seem, his selection of a ring for the woman he loves speaks volumes. Women give so much of themselves to their men, and they expect it...so show her you’re worth it.

Another unpopular opinion: giving a family heirloom or a ring without considering her personal tastes. This comes across as “I am going to tell YOU what you like and decide your preferences FOR YOU from now on.” I get even more flack for that opinion, but think about it. If he doesn’t at least have a basic idea about your taste in jewelry by now, or bothered to learn...he didn’t care enough to learn. PickMes and LVM loooooooove to say “the ring shouldn’t matter/an heirloom is sentimental and how dare you not be happy about it/him just giving you a ring should be enough/I don’t even need a ring because uNLiKe oThEr gIrLs I’d be happy with an onion ring/lOvE iS alL tHaT sHouLd mAtTeR/etc.” Fine, PickMe. You’re entitled to your own low standards, so leave mine alone. If he doesn’t care about your likes/preferences in a piece of jewelry you’ll wear every...he doesn’t really care about YOU. He won’t care about your preferences/needs in regard to anything else either. You don’t need a man to TELL you what you should like/dislike. An an heirloom ring, no matter how beautiful or sentimental it is to HIM...it’s HIS family’s. It will never feel like yours. We’re not talking about Princess Diana’s ring here.

To the male lurkers: if you view purchasing an engagement ring as an annoyance or don’t even want to bother, find a woman who’s OK with that. They’re obviously out there. Stay in your lane 😚😚😚🤡

I've heard the saying that the proposal shouldn't be the surprise, its how it happens that should be the surprise. I though that meant they would either subtly hint at it before a conversation happens, but it seems like this post is eluding to no hints. How should a couple eloquently let each other know when they are interested in marriage?
