I wish I had left the first time he punched a wall and then had the audacity to cry about his hand hurting from punching the wall. And trying to make me feel guilty because apparently he wouldn’t have punched the wall and hurt his precious hand if I hadn’t angered him into doing so.

Absolutely! It took me so long to realize this. It was actually my grandmother who made me realize that when my ex would slam doors, grab things out of my hand and smash them, and punch doors it was domestic violence. He does NOT have to put his hands directly on you for it to be considered DV!

I remember reading a post that said if someone is slamming a door [or insert any other act of physical violence directed at an inanimate object], they are communicating that they really want to hit you but feel like they can't. As a child I never understood why my mother was so angry if I ever slammed a door but now I realise it's because it's an intimidation tactic, one which was used by my father before she left him. I will not stand for any partner of mine doing it.
