My mom says it’s good to have sex before marriage and get tons of experience I don’t think so. I always think the man wins if you give him sex so easily. Sex is way better for a man than a woman imo. What do you think?

I think there’s a healthy in between of saving sex for someone you really love and are committed to without waiting until marriage. But the only thing that matters is what do YOU think. That’s great your mom is so open about sex but you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. And I personally agree with you that having sex with a bunch of guys isn’t the best path

[–]rosesonthefloor40 points41 points42 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What do you want? If you don’t want to have sex before marriage, then stick to that. It’s your body, and it’s your choice. You get to decide at what point in a relationship you feel comfortable having sex.

However, sex should be pleasurable and good for both parties. Do not have sex with someone that does not care about your pleasure!

For me, personally, I need to have sex with someone as part of the vetting process to make sure we’re sexually compatible, but I obviously don’t do so right away. Again, it’s entirely up to what you’re comfortable with. Don’t let anyone (including your mom) pressure you into having sex if you don’t want to!

If I am being honest I don’t care about sex. I might have a low sex drive? I just want cuddles and a man with a secure job :p

[–]cearrow26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't get into a relationship with a man with a higher libido. Read the r/deadbedrooms sub so you can get a glimpse of what is being talked about. Your best bet is to get in a relationship whose libido matches your own.

[–]rosesonthefloor19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s possible. How old are you?

Marriages are about more than just sex. Although a bad sex life is a big predictor of marital unhappiness so if you really think you have low libido it is something you should discuss with any man you get serious with.

[–]Pycnostyle9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you aren't interested in sex, it's worth bringing it up with your doctor. It could be a sign of a health issue.

Or you could just be asexual. It's not super common, but it's common enough. If that's the case, I would recommend seeking a partner who is also asexual. Otherwise, the sexual incompatibility will be dramatic and I wouldn't expect the relationship to last in the long run.

[–]Acrobatic-Stuff3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ideally even the man himself knows he has to strive in order to get you, this not only makes life flourish but it is the proper way it was meant to be. Relationships that dissipate their love in the sexual act so often do not last that long, and it is not only my opinion, chemically and biologically it is how it works, them more sex you have with someone, the more detached you become from him, and specially the man.

It may seem contradictory, specially with society adoctronating us into seeing sex as just a casual meaningless worthless thing to be a part of, and I don't mean to contradict your believes, it is just something I feel in my heart. The sexual energy is sacred, specially when you are in love with someone, both partners should do their best to take it to the highest potential

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Huh? Weird, because the more I had sex with my fiancée 22 years ago, the closer it brought us. After 21 years of marriage, it still does.

I guess it depends on the partner.

[–]Acrobatic-Stuff1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's fine of course it's just not scientifically based

[–]vintagegirlgame4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can get a lot of experience without sleeping around with a lot of men. If you’re in a long term relationship you’ll get plenty of experience from one man, possibly more bc you’ll start exploring more bc you feel safer with a deeper bond. If you are in love having other LTRs can still be a valuable experience before marriage.

[–]packo3329 points30 points31 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Having sex with many partners disables the pair-bonding function of sex.

IMHO this applies the same for both sexes.

For men, a woman with high body count is a huge no-no for a LTR. No amount of media whitewashing could defuse what is deeply ingrained in our genes. I could not say if women's point of view is the same.

And, no. Sex is not better for a man. Not in my experience at least

Came here as a man to say the same thing.

Agreed.

OP, there's nothing wrong with what you want! You'll just need to be upfront with guys about this. The biggest challenge I think you'll have is if you marry a guy with a low libido that matches your current libido and then yours kicks in around 30. This is not an uncommon situation so you'll need to be willing to sacrifice some of your potential needs from 30-45/50 if you go down this route. Generally speaking, men's libido starts to slowly decline around 35/40 whereas for women, it starts to really kick in around 30.

Or you have a good understanding of intimacy and responsibility and choose not to have sex, because 1. It has higher risk of divorce in your future relationships and 2. It puts you in risk of pregnancy.

Calling people wierd for having not having dex before marriage is kind of toxic

Contraception fails and aside from pregnancy, there are several other risks a woman takes when she has sex with a man. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. Side effects from birth control, if she decides to use it to ensure that she won't get pregnant

  2. STD's (they are transferred a lot more easily from the man to the woman than the other way around)

  3. Having her reputation ruined, especially in conservative countries, where several men refuse to date and marry promiscuous women, or even non-virgins

  4. Experiencing pain or discomfort during intercourse, which is much more common for women than it is for men

  5. Falling for the wrong man, since women are more prone to bonding after sex than men are.

[–]Freja_Walther2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not wierd, it’s the most mature thing to do.

[–]packo331 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is no exact answer for that question. It certainly depends on age. And it is not really about the number.

It is about if that person had sex as part of a meaningful relationship or had sex indiscriminately.

But, not to avoid the question. In my twenties I would say 5 could be a threshold. Later on this could be increased. Bear in mind that I left my 20s long ago an I am happily married, so I have not been in the market for a long time.

Always talking about LTR, of course.

[–]eazolan11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

You have to find out if you're sexually compatible at some point.

[–]golden_eyed_cat2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't sexual compatibility come and change with time, though? Just like when you're cooking a new dish, the first time you're physically intimate with your partner might not become the best intercource of your life. However, as you "practice", things will get better and better. Also, sexual incompatibility will come at different points of the relationship anyway. You will age. You'll get pregnant and have children. You might get ill. Sex in your 50's certainly won't be the same as when you're in your 20's and just got married (or started dating and both of you are putting your best foot forward)! Therefore, in my opinion, sleeping with someone just to see if you're sexually compatible isn't the best idea, and there are other ways to vet for this aspect of the relationship.

[–]rosesonthefloor3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I fully agree that sex gets better the more you know each other, and you really can grow to have a better sex life than you did initially.

But if there’s no initial chemistry, or you’re not sexually compatible from the jump (let’s say, by the third or fourth time you’ve had sex, to give some time)... it’s never going to get good lol.

If you don’t have fantastic sex early enough on (like within the first few months of being sexually active with each other), when all you have to focus on is pleasing each other and enjoying each others’ company, you’re certainly not going to somehow magically find it when you’re dealing with kids and family and household responsibilities on top of that.

[–]mofokong5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I second this.

I was in a relationship with someone for 2 years and never felt any sexual desire for him. He was my first and after a few times, my impression of sex was "meh" and I concluded that I'm probably asexual. I never even thought about him in a sexual way. Ever.

Fast forward to current relationship and we have sex regularly. I love it and I learned that I'm actually quite a sexual woman with a high drive. Who would have thought?

[–]arabiandoll1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I went through the EXACT same thing. My ex made me think I was asexual too, turns out I love sex, just not with short feminine men 😂

[–]golden_eyed_cat0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Sexual lust and desire comes before sleeping with someone, though. You don't have to have sex with a man to know that you're attractsd to him.

[–]mofokong1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. So I'm agreeing to the commenter above saying how without that initial sexual chemistry there is no compatibility.

[–]golden_eyed_cat-1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If you have to sleep with someone to see if there's chemistry, though, isn't it an indication of potential lack of chemistry? Me and my fianceé are both saving sex for marriage, and (RIP my inbox), it can sometimes be hard to keep my hands off of him, and vice versa.

[–]mofokong2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't have to sleep with someone to see if there is chemistry, but to know if you're sexually compatible you likely do. If you don't find yourself wanting to do sexy things with your partner then the chemistry is probably not there, and neither is the sexual compatibility.

[–]rosesonthefloor1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can have fantastic chemistry before sex, and then find that it changes once you do. The anticipation heightens everything and makes it super exciting, so a number of times I’ve been disappointed once we did actually have sex. It’s really unfortunate, cause they were otherwise great partners, we just didn’t approach sex the same way.

It sounds like your fiancé and you have great chemistry, and are on the same page about sex already so I hope everything works out for you two!!

[–]golden_eyed_cat1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is interesting... If I may ask, how did you vet your partners for compatibility in the bedroom prior to sleeping with them? Were there any red flags? Also, what exactly disappointed you in them?

[–]rosesonthefloor1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the basic things, like do they like/respect me, do I feel like they care about my pleasure, all that good stuff.

Then making out and conversation, for the most part. If someone’s a good kisser, they’re likely to be good in bed too, but I’ve learned that doesn’t always hold true lol. But generally they do correlate pretty well. In both cases I was also clear that I liked my men to be dominant in the bedroom, and both men expressed interest in that too. I can’t think of any specific red flags, other than maybe the fact that each of them weren’t very experienced - and I hesitate to call that one because I don’t actually think that’s a bad thing.

When it came down to it, it was disappointing because person one had no desire to be dominant (despite saying so) and essentially just wanted a quickie every now and then without exploring more, and person two was because he couldn’t figure out a way he was comfortable helping me orgasm, despite me mentioning what I like and offering different suggestions.

If you and your partner, at the very least, care about making each other feel good and helping them to orgasm, then you’re probably going to have an awesome time!

[–]LouiseConnor10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I think anyone can become sexually compatible since it takes years to develop and mature and thriving sex life with someone. So I don’t believe dating time really gives a good picture of what your married sex life will be like.

So many things affect your sex lite from work, stress, health, loss, moving, kids, extended family, that I don’t think it’s possible to avoid issues. Everyone has issues with it for some reason at some point.

[–]umnothnxbye13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nope. No. SO MUCH NO. This is very naive.

Plenty of people have kinks or fetishes that are not compatible with your own. I've been with a guy where all he wanted is anal. No, I've got IBS, that's never going to happen. That relationship failed miserably since he felt like I was holding out. I've been with a guy who couldn't get off unless I was rough and dominating. No. I hate that, I can't even get horny doing that. I've also had one guy that was just plain awful and lazy in bed. No amount of coaching changed that. He just didn't want to put in the effort, which sucked since he was wonderful in almost every other area.

Anyways, I'd hate my life if I ended up marrying any of those guys.

[–]golden_eyed_cat2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It seems to me that these men got their kinks from pornography, and if you asked them about their opinion in regards to adult videos, these issues could have quickly came up. Also, just because you aren't sleeping with a man, doesn't mean that you shouldn't vet him for compatibility in the bedroom!

[–]LouiseConnor-3 points-2 points-1 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didnt mean it wasn’t wise to talk about stuff before if you know if either of you have some preferences or what not. That’s another reason I think the less experience the better, Bc then people don’t have many preferences or hard to kill habits. You can actually grow together instead of having to accommodate deeply ingrained things.

[–]lemurianelf7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Trust me, no
I tried bonding with a great man but the sex chemistry was just so off. I think now because he had serious mental issues that made him unable to relax or get out of his head.

Bottom line is totally disagree you can fix bad sex. There's connection or there isnt

[–]LouiseConnor4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If he had serious mental issues.... that doesn’t sound like a sex issue. Sounds like a vetting issue.

[–]arabiandoll0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I disagree. Like really, really, disagree.

[–]LouiseConnor0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s fine 😊🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]xoxobenji4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Clearly you haven’t had good sex. But with that being said. You should have sex when you’re ready and with someone that you love and feel connected to. Also don’t use sex as some kind of power trip over your man. Because you will always lose. Sex is about connecting and just a different form of express the love you have for each other.

[–]Freja_Walther7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

My mom said the same and it made me so annoyed. My mom was very “free” in her sex life as a teen and she have called me wierd for not doing the same.

I have had sex before marriage but I don’t plan to do it again right now atleast. But mainly because I think people should only have sex when they are ready for kids, that’s the most responsible.

Sex should be great for both part but men do value it more in general. I personally think people there “need to know” before is kind of prioriting wrong.

In the end of the day you should do what you think is the best for you. Don’t let your mom get in your head.

[–]lemurianelf-1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

So you don't have sex until you want kids? You only have sex to procreate?

[–]Freja_Walther1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

All sex can cause you to procreate also protected sex. So when you have sex you accept the change of pregnancy. I know that I am not in a financial or emotional state yet to have kids, so I do the responsible thing and try to wait.

Waiting can be hard when you have a partner but I think it’s the most healthy thing to do to avoid the pressure of a child.

[–]JadedByEntropy4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very responsible! I wish more people would think about the result of sex and not just the feelings. Making babies..makes babies. Its not complicated. And I agree too that having made a baby, by baby making, I couldn't just kill the human being just because it was convenient. Often you lose the ability to conceive later, and if you do, it haunts you that the first one never got to explore the world. It's crippling

[–]lemurianelf0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There's also abortions. So I think I'm good.

[–]Freja_Walther5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don’t consider killing a child an option. Consider just being an mature adult?

There are other people than religious there doesn't support abortion. I am not a teenager either.

You dismissing me because of my an age that you assumed and my religion, which, I was against abortion when I was an atheist so. It tells a lot about how you conduct conversation when people don't agree with you. Which is super immature.

It’s not, it damages women psychologically as birth control was invented yesterday if compared through thousands of years of evolution where women’s mating strategy is to find one male that she sees is the best fit. it also prevents women from pair bonding which leads them to being the initiators of 80% of all divorces

I think the most important thing is to follow your own sexual path. It might be totally different from your mothers. And that should be ok. I don't think there's a wrong as long as you're not letting yourself get pushed (either to have more partners or restraining yourself from having them) That said, I do think it's nice your mother is trying to give you some kind of sexual freedom. She at least isn't afraid of her daughter's sexuality.

In my experience libido can change when you get older, and it varies with partners as well. I have always had a high libido, usually higher than my partners. But my first got me a bit disappointed about sex. Not the bonding part, but I didn't really understand why people where so psyched about it. I know now that he was too sensitive and insecure for me. It wasn't until a bit later with someone else, who was more experienced, everything sort of unfolded for me. That became the point of no return for my libido. He taught me much about myself and passed on his experience. So don't write yourself off as being asexual just yet. You're at the beginning of your own journey. Someone might show you what it's all about. Also, what I've seen with female friends is that they seemed to appreciate sex more whilst they themselves matured, got more confident and learned about what they actually liked. Women tend to get more sexually free when they mature imo. This, and hormonal changes, tend to alter libido. Things can change.

I also don't think that sex for a man is better than it is for a woman. They might be driven by sex more, but the pleasure of it is pretty much comparable in my experience.

Having had more partners also didn't stop it from being a part of bonding for me. I still feel how it is a big part of the bonding. The intimacy, the love for each other merging into this physical act is still a very nice process to me. Sex sure helps express the affection we feel for each other, as well as the intimacy of it helps us being affectionate towards each other in other parts of our relationship. It's like a pretty damn good circle. I don't feel like the past experiences we both had stand in the way of that at all.

[–]Own-Grapefruit73091 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I believe it to be a myth or maybe a limiting belief that sex is better for men than women. We are all human beings who enjoy orgasms. Society has made it seem that sex is for men but biologically speaking - we have a clitoris and it’s sole function is for pleasure, explain that! =D

[–]Uniqniqu1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my opinion your mother is right and I’m impressed that you have such a mother. Mine has never been open to discuss such stuff. I believed sex has to wait till marriage. I was fully brainwashed with thoughts similar to yours. But I was wrong. I spent most of my twenties in frustration of having little to no intimacy or if any, it would be covered with guilt.

Sex and assault are two different things. If you’re letting a man use your body, then that’s not sex, that’s assault; but if you mutually agree to have sexual intimacy and respect each other, it’s enjoyable for both genders, not just the man.

I never knew this even after years of getting married, because I had married and autistic psychopath with a ton of sensory issues and sex was fully mechanical and painful. Once I got myself out and started exploring the pleasures out there, I realized how wrong I was the whole time and how sex is great and helps you relax and calm down in so many way.

It’s up to you in the end but don’t be stigmatized about something without trying it first.

Here’s the way I did it when it comes to men and sex anyways (I’d say marriage also but I’m still trying to get my sos to see that asking Me to be his wife forever will be one of the best decisions he will ever make but sadly after the experience he had with his ex wife, I’m not so sure if I’ll ever get him to consider it :( ) but ur mom sounds like she’s giving you that advice from her own perspective on that subject which is fine etc, (or maybe she’s saying what she thinks you want to hear..I’m not sure lol )

But the advice I’d give my daughters (when and if they ever ask for that type of advice) First off I’d say “try to keep your virginity as long as you can , or at least until you have your own life together and you have your life the way you want it, then when u find the right guy (a guy who shows you respect and love and has all the good qualities you deserve) then test him by telling him that you would like to wait til marriage before you give all of yourself to him then if after 4-5 months he’s still with you an loving you/by your side etc then only if deep inside yourself you truly feel like giving yourself to him is the 100% right thing To do then go for it but if waiting til marriage is still what feels right to you then do that instead because if hes still there after 5 months then he loves you and respects you enough to wait for your wedding night.

The point I’m trying to make is ONLY ever do what feels 100% right to you, if something don’t feel 100% right to you then don’t do it because that’s how you end up with regrets ALOT of the time.

The right guy will always be on the same page as you and just being with you will be good enough for him. Granted it would be hard to find a good guy like that but there are still a few in this world and when the time comes you’ll just know/feels it. 👍

Always make decisions based on how you feel about it, matters of the heart and gut feelings are almost always right (like 95% of the time) Also never second guess yourself, if something don’t feel right to you then the best option is don’t do it.

This advice comes from my many many years of experience with men and love and sex and marriage (I knew I shouldn’t of married my ex husband but I second guessed myself and convinced myself that He was the best I could get and I marrying him anyways and I ended up having 15 miserable years of life because of how he treated me etc. Life likes to drop lots of suprises on us so I find that the best way to avoid those kind of suprises is to ALWAYS go with ur first initial instinct in everything you do in life. If you do that then the chances are that life should be kind to you. :)

And sex is better for both men and woman lol but if you want to get technical then I’d say it’s better for woman cause us woman can get off a lot more times during sex than a man can (but age is also a big factor in determining that kind of answer also, so it varies lol)

Your reply assumes that your daughters would never have a sexual drive for themselves that they might want to satisfy... forcing your daughters to lie to some guy seems problematic too

hmmm. This is hard for me to relate to because my mom was / is so far the opposite direction. When I was 20 and she found out I'd had sex for the first time, it's like she was devastated. Don't take that as talking bad about my mom... she's just seriously a moral pillar type that doesn't seem to exist much today.

Honestly, I think your mom is wrong that its' "good" or necessary at all to get "tons of experience." You can always learn about sex, even if you get married and haven't had sex before... you can learn. It's fine. You DEFINITELY (imo) shouldn't be having sexual experiences just because you think you need to practice.

As far as sex being better for men, I'm not sure I'd say better, but it's definitely different for them. You're right on that the likelihood of a man moving on from you sooner if you give it up fast... is pretty high. That's just the way it is.

Now as far as marriage, no man is going to be more likely to marry you because you have "tons of experience" or give it up fast... just doesn't work that way. I'm not saying women with "tons of experience" don't get married, but that's not a selling point lol.

Lots of redpilled men say they’d never marry a non-virgin so if u want a redpilled man then that isnt the way to go id say.

Why is it "better" for a man? Promiscuity is not a good thing for either.

You're right. Mom's wrong, at least about experience.

When you say, "Sex is way better for a man than a woman imo", are you talking about the enjoyment of the act, or that sex without commitment benefits the man more?

If the former, you're quite wrong. If the latter, you're correct, in that men don't tend to emotionally bond with every partner, and women tend to. There's no downside to most men with having unencumbered sex.

Sex isn't something to be "won". It's a gift, and a shared emotional experience, if you do it right.

Unless you have proof that Adam and Eve's marriage certificate exists, you should be able to fuck whenever you want. Also marriage is more than just sex (although if the sex is sub-par or non-existance that will cause big problems later on).

“Sex is way better for a man then a woman”

I mean, if the man is completely inept in bed then maybe.

A 2 pump chump probably gets a lot more out of sex then his grumbling dissatisfied partner but... that is not representative of what sex is like for many women.

Believe it or not but there is a sizeable population of men who are “adequately sized”, in good shape, and derive pleasure from getting our partners off.

If this negative association has been your experience with sex, you are dating the wrong men.

In fact, whenever I sleep with someone new, I always make a conscious effort to get her to orgasm with oral at least once before the main event, and at least once during the event.

I found that, in doing this, women have wanted to come back for seconds just about every time.

I mean, I feel like it’s almost like a “sex is balanced differently at different skill levels”

If the man is completely sexually inept, it’s far more likely for him to get enjoyment and his partner to get little to nothing.

If the man is extremely sexually proficient, his partner will cum WAY WAY more then he does.

(Assuming heterosexuality )

I have had sex sessions where I was legitimately jealous of female biology and their ability to ride orgasm after orgasm with no sign of stopping.

If you can find a partner or bring you to those heights I’m pretty sure you will change your tune.

So in short, “is sex better for men?”

Yes, if he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I kind of agree with your mom. Being safe to have as much sex as I want within my relationship is pretty awesome. I don't know why you think sex is better for a man. Multiple orgasms are amazing and women can do that with a skilled partner, or understanding their own bodies and using toys.

You don't need to have sex before marriage, but sex is very enjoyable for women when done correctly.
