The male centric aspect might be related to how it is focusing on Harvard graduates and it is a study that apparently started 75 years ago. Women’s presence at the University was scarce during a large part of the 20th century, making the possible case studies male, and the scientists in charge also probably men (haven’t really checked beyond reading the main page of the study’s website).

Not saying that it is a good thing, but it might make sense based on historical conditions. There might even be other concerns such as availability of data or even bias in acquiring funding. Hopefully things will change and women will be taken into account more and more.

Lots of you ladies sound so confused as to why they would only study men and then make blanket statements about all humans in general. Don't you get it, they don't see us as human. They are the default human. They are the average, and we are the others. If men are happier in relationships then it becomes a blanket statement that people are happier in relationships. Whereas if anything is specific to women, they will relate it back to men, e.g: people claiming the current education system is harming students and needs to change because they read that girls are doing better in school than boys (ie. the other is doing better than the default)

Another interesting thing about this study is how different things were back then. Pretty much everyone got married, so if you were like a functional person without any severe mental or social issues, you were probably in a relationship. That probably has a lot more to do with someone's success levels at work and life in general than relationship status now. Back then it was so part of the culture that everyone had to be married that if you failed to marry, you probably had bigger issues going on.

Woowwwww thank you for look into that! I have been noticed that newsline making the rounds lately, I didnt know it was from 2016, but I think probably with the rise of FDS and the article from the NYT about sperm banks being in high demand and all that stuff, they are worried, so it makes sense they are misleadingly pushing that story right now.

But thank you for clarifying. Those headlines did make me feel a little tug of worry when I first saw them, though my first thought was "Are they talking about how having a wife makes thing easier?" Because, yeah, having a live-in slave to cook, clean, do laundry, take care of your children, etc, is obviously going to make your life quality go way up. BEING that live-in slave will obviously have way different effects on your life, lol. I mean... duh.

I mean, it's not necessarily talking about romantic relationships, just relationships in general. So that could mean family and friends. I would think this applies to everyone, but it's definitely odd that they only used men.
