Porn is only degrading to women if the individual women doing a porn shoot feels it's degrading her. There is no universal terms of degradation. In another example, one woman I might meet, could absolutely LOVE being cummed on her face. It could be her biggest most pleasurable fantasy. Yet another woman, might find it absolutely disgusting and degrading. You cannot inject what you think of as degrading to other people.

No, because women are very broad and diverse. Porn does not make me think Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama as sex objects, because they are not related to anything to do with sex. Women do play a role however in becoming sexually objectified. If a woman portrays herself as being only good for sex, to some guy or whatever, that is what the guy will think.

I think porn makes people have unrealistic expectations of penis size.

IMO any video where it's painfully obvious that the girl in question really doesn't want to be doing what she's doing is degrading.

Whether or not something is degrading though is subjective, some people might resent doing porn but put up with it because they're that desperate for the money or they're forced into it or whatever other reason. Some people might actually enjoy their line of work and take pride in it.

I don't believe porn has any particularly strong influence on how men see women, other than perhaps the availability of porn making some men less thirsty in social situations. If anything I can see it contributing to men not objectifying women, as they have a target for their libido that isn't limited to women they see IRL or women that are otherwise famous.

What I think is more worthy of discussion really, is why there exists any sort of disparity between men and women when it comes to porn.

I think we need to be strict here about the definitions we use for things like "degrading" and "sex object". There tends otherwise to be an awkward feminist motte-and-bailey trick where a word that's true in one specific context is then generalised based to all other possible interpretations of that word.

A lot of porn is quite intentionally degrading to women (and often to men, where there's an interest in that) in that context, since it's showing images of power and control rather than just things going into holes for twenty minutes. However, all of this is consensual. And it actually seems to be more prevalent in the kind of porn that has more of a female audience. I'm thinking particularly of the kink.com stuff. I've turned stuff off because it crossed the line into weird and gross (Japan, I'm looking at you), rather than degrading in a sexy way, but there's nothing wrong with porn being degrading.

Feminists want to take that and use the word in a different way, where if you're jerking off to one woman being pissed on, it's somehow a statement about all women everywhere and therefore they have the right to police what grown adults do in their own homes and to wag fingers in the face of men who have different (read: more male) sexual fantasies than they do.

Similarly, you've been told a couple of times that all men see women as sex objects, which you really don't like. I think here that's again a matter of definitions. It doesn't mean that all men see women as a vehicle to transport tits from place to place, but it does mean that when men see a hot girl walking down the street, they're not thinking about whether or not she enjoys Dostoyevsky, they're having a biological response that says "put your dick in that". That's a result of testosterone, not porn.

I find porn in general disgusting personally, but that is just my personal reaction and most guys don't have the same visceral reaction to porn.

Also, people ARE sex objects, so I don't see what porn has to do with that.

As for porn creating absurd expectations wrt. sex, yes it does that. Given how tilted the SMP is in favor of women, though I'm not going to feel much sympathy about this one hardship that they have.

Eh, the issue's more nuanced than this, imo.

Whether getting railed on film by a horsecock'd dude causes a woman to feel shame or humiliation (that's the definition of "degrading" I'm working with) depends on the individual woman, and on the situation.

That being said, I do think the primary responsibility for safeguarding a woman's dignity and sense of self-worth should belong to said woman, being that she's allegedly an autonomous adult... so if a woman makes career choices that make her feel degraded, she has nobody to blame but herself. The sorts of women who feel a loss of self-respect over getting railed on camera for money should probably stay out of porn.

I'm sure there are women who sincerely enjoy (within reason-- nobody enjoys every aspect of their job 100% of the time) doing porn and possibly get off on the feelings of degradation and humiliation that can go along with. Who am I to tell those women that they shouldn't/can't do porn because it's "degrading" by my moral standards? That'd be pretty paternalistic of me.

Porn is just one of many life choices that can open people up to feeling exploited or degraded-- we generally expect adults to protect themselves against these possible outcomes in other fields of work, so I don't see why porn should be any different.

I think men necessarily see women as sex objects some of the time. I don't think it's a bad thing. I also don't think it's an acceptable reason to treat anybody as subhuman. We can and should behave ourselves according to our higher values, regardless of what our lizard-brained impulses are.

I think it has the power to create absurd standards in people who are already disconnected from reality. In that instance, it's just contributing to a pre-existing problem, not causing it.

Yes, if the act is more about subjugating women than the actual act of sex. But to each his own. If I don't like it, I won't watch it.

For young boys or men, yes, porn might give them the wrong impression about how sex is like. That is the danger as it might warp relationships or sex itself. But being realistic and given the wide and easy exposure to porn nowadays, that is a challenge for parents to guide their children to have a balanced understanding of sex or the other gender.

When I was a teenager and found porn I found it through a porn review site called sirrodney, sirrodney fucking loved these 2 websites called "asstraffic" and "allinternal" and I trusted his judgement because we all knew that downloading porn from limewire was risky business, you had to search for specific titles or you would get viruses.

I would never actively seek out porn that degrades women, I always research and determine a film studio's credibility in shooting talent, and ask questions like "Do they treat talent ethically?" "Do they make sure the women are comfortable?"

This wasn't a porn scene I found degrading, but I was watching the documentary Hot Girls Wanted and there was a scene where all of the models in the house in Miami were watching Belle Knox's first ever scene for Facial Abuse. Thankfully we didn't see the scene but the audio was just disturbing. How anybody could get off to a girl being forced to give oral sex until she literally throws up is BEYOND me.
