This is a convoluted mess. When she says a “single mother” blah blah blah I immediately switch off to that entitled garbage but regardless this person isn’t a criminal. She is dumb as fuck and we could spend from now to eternity debating it, but the bottom line is this isn’t a direct pussy pass.

She is asking for a pussy pass where a pass shouldn’t even be needed. Thank you to the OP for an interesting change from the usual clear cut female sense of entitlement to a thought piece.

Before we all jump on the hate train, let's look at this from another perspective....

She has five children, AND is a single mom. My thoughts would apply to single fathers as well.

Depending on the size of the fine, there should probably be some ability to work with this person. Not because they are above the law, but because the financial shitstorm that will follow locking her up. She has FIVE kids....What are we going to do with them while she's locked up?

It's fine to have justice boners, but, FUCK. This will be a huge manpower and financial burden if you take a family's one parent and lock them up. The children just can't be left behind, and I can't imagine family members taking in five kids for an extended period.

So while this person may have a fine of a few hundred or even a few thousand bucks, locking her up isn't going to make the situation better, and it'll cost the rest of us a ton of money supporting, moving and monitoring those kids. An alternative punishment is in order.

Edit: Found the article. I found this, awful, actually:

In Western Australia, under the Fines, Penalties and Infringement Notices Enforcement Act 1994 (WA), if a person defaults on a payment arrangement, an arrest warrant is issued and they are detained at a rate of $250 per day until the fine is 'paid off'. Western Australia is the only state still locking people up for unpaid fines.

Also, if you read the article, she is being arrested for her dead partner's fines. So, her dead partner's fines and $250/day to be locked up over it? Whatever pussypass y'all think she got, she didn't. This woman got fucking hosed.

She was jailed due to fines...this could have been a simple ticket she couldnt afford to pay at the time. Local courts can have awful interest rates and it can be understandable that if you already cant pay, how does making the fine larger help? It perpetuates the cycle and eventually it will be a mandatory minimum, like her case.

I can only go off of what I see here. I guess I’m too lazy to find the actual article. Anyhoo, it says that she’s being jailed for defaulting on a fine. I agree that she shouldn’t be jailed for that. Debtors prisons are stupid. She should be finding a way to pay the fine and take care of her kids. Otherwise, it just costs us all a lot more money.

I wouldn't say this is a pussy pass. She has 5 kids and a fine. This would be the same if it were a single father. They aren't a criminal, they are just struggling financially. Putting them in prison would hurt the kids more than it would hurt the parent. We shouldn't punish the kids because their parents chose to have kids they can't support. Maybe in these situations they could let them pay it off with mandatory community service or monthly payments.

Getting locked up for a fine is absolutely fucking stupid, especially if you're caring for children regardless of your gender.

So what, it's better to lock someone up, have them lose their job (the only means to pay the fine), reaidence, split up the kids to foster homes because of unpaid fines instead of something reasonable like garnishing wages?

I live 2500km from the only city in this area and sufficed to say, postage is fucked hey. I am technically in the same position but I only just realised when I went to renew one of my few cars. Never got the fine and it has escalated to courts. could happen to anyone when you don't know you have a fine. get off your high fucken horses
