I remember when my mother accessed a shelter for abuse they had an issue with me being too old to enter when I was something like 13-14 (it’s an estimate I don’t think I could of been older but I may of been younger) because they women didn’t want to be around men.

This statistic is based off of ALL "homeless" people, including people who are living on a freinds couch because they got booted out of their parents house or are in temporary shelter housing or some shit like that. If you look at how many people are actually on the damn street, it's about 90% male. I've seen probably one woman sleeping on the street in the past year. I've seen countless men. Many of them are homless because they are mentally ill and unable to get treatment because of our medical system being a rediculous capatilistic money making machine rather than a system designed to help people. I mean shit if Americans aren't going to get free Healthcare at least make the prices fair and not overblown the fuck out of proportion. I was prescribed a steroid cream for dyshydrotic eczema recently, insurance didn't cover it so I couldn't get it. You know how much that shit is? $250 for a little fucking tube of steroid cream. The medical industry is taking advantage of people to a level that could be considered criminal. I met a homeless dude a while back when my cars alternator decided to kick the bucket and I was stranded. He was living in a tent in the back of a Carl's junior (a burger joint in the US, for those who don't know. Often called "hardees" in some regions). He was a nice guy, we talked about various things while I waited for my AAA truck to show up. He told me his story, how he had gotten where he was now it was because of dealing with medical bills and a nasty divorce all at the same time. His wife decided she wasn't willing to deal with a sick husband and that caring for him was just too much work for her. I gave him some advice on things he might be able to do and help he might be able to get, and when my truck finally arrived and I handed him a $5 bill so he could get a little warm food in his stomach. Talking with this man showed me just how easy it is to become like that. He was a normal guy, just like all of us, but he had bad luck and wasn't able to pull through after the shit hit the fan. Men deserve the same help that women are already getting. Nobody deserves to live like that, regardless of what demographic you fit in to.

Nah, it's okay, men are disposable. We always have been.

That's why only men were drafted. And why women and children were rescued first in disasters like the Titanic. And why there are no men's shelters. And why there is no push for 'more women in mining, construction, and plumbing'. That's why there is no 'testicular cancer awareness month'.

Once you understand that we're a replaceable, disposable, and easily sourced, commodity, all of it makes sense.

(At least, that's how modern feminism thinks)

In my experience working in social services, this seems due to the fact that physical labor jobs are mostly taken by men and when they are not able to work, or get injured, they are thrown to the curb by their employers. Veterans have a similar situation. Women seem to be more able to get help from friends and others because they are deemed more vulnerable and less threatening. I think less emphasis is put on helping men out because there is this idea that they are tougher and more able to cope with being homeless. Men are expected to be able to take care of themselves. But if they end up homeless, It seems to me that it is harder for them to get out of that. There's a whole social dynamic that men are beholden to that I don't think is very well addressed when it comes to this.

That’s actually pretty sexist against women. It’s like comparing women to children and implying that women don’t have the autonomy to get themselves out of difficult situations, so society must intervene. Whether there’s truth to that or not, I’m not sure.

Based on looking around the city where I live, this is a huge exaggeration. There is like 1 homeless woman for every 5-6 men that I see. Further, the few women I've seen on the street are nearly alway paired up with some guy who probably looks out for her.

There's a show I used to watch about homeless women in the UK. It was pretty over dramatic even when saying the percentage of homeless women was something like 13%. Why not talk about homelessness as a whole? It's ridiculous.

Always annoying to see how feminists twist everything into a women only issue. Of course we should care about homeless women as well, but I can't think of any reason why it should be a gendered thing.

It's much like the circumcision debate. Whenever FGM is brought up and someone mentions MGM as well, they all screech, "BUT IT'S NOT AS BAD AS FGM!!!", as if that's a valid reason to ignore it. Of course, that's if they even acknowledge that it's bad to begin with.

It's always about the women up until the point where they talk about who to blame. Then it's always the men. I guess that's what they mean when they say that feminism is for men too.
