Speaking as a hiring manager in Silicon Valley many women do get hired to fill out diversity.

I know many, many skilled, dedicated, hard working women in the Valley who got where they are by being the best. But I've also been told, point blank, by HR VPs that 'diversity is a job requirement'.

No one has ever told me 'you must hire a woman for this req', but it has been made pretty clear to me on 2 separate occasions that I would be hiring the female candidate by executives who were not otherwise involved in the hiring process (and thus couldn't judge the quality of any of the candidates).

It sounds like the guy has Asperger's or ASD. Could be just a genuine misunderstanding on her part. Perhaps the grlls just didn’t get enough attention from him. Yet it seems like he was relatively good on his job. Social awkwardness, poor social skills, lack of empathy sounds like someone who's on the spectrum.

And he didn’t grade their work high enough!

We brought this concern to HR (which has been amazing here, really trying to make the place a welcoming one for all people...)

And isn't the stereotype that programming was originally a refuge for the nerdy guy, like exactly the kind of guy this woman is describing? But this woman suddenly expects that the decades-old prevailing culture of the field to immediately conform to her comfort zone, presumably without actually talking to the fucking guy about her concerns?

Hmm let's see..."Wow, I just became a nurse, but as a guy, I don't like how man-hating all these women nurses are. They just talk about TV shows, Target, and seltzer all day, and talk too much when I ask a direct question. I am being wronged; someone get me HR!"

Edit: Holy shit, just saw the bit about "virgin white men." One, wtf does race have to do with this. Two, apparently not banging anything that moves puts you in the "low-key women-hater camp."

remember, do not stay in toxic environments, your skills, expertise and knowledge can and will be better used somewhere else

btw, you guys should know that the level of complexity of Chinese software is getting higher and higher and that soon enough US and the west have to give up the crown in their favor

and yes, Silicon Valley will be completely destroyed at that point

Complaining about sexism and rounding off the comment with virgin shaming. Cool. I can see why they wouldn't like MRM sites. Not that there's any indication he was even browsing an MRM site, given how plenty of unaffiliated movements and sites are lumped in with us out of our critics inability to actually form an argument against our points.

Being that I happen to have Asperger Syndrome, this is incredibly worrying. It's not as if I didn't have enough to worry about already when it comes to appearing different and threatening.

So basically this guy sounds like an introvert or he's decided to not bother with women except the bare essentials and they get him fired for not being friendly enough to women.

So basically if men interact with women in the workplace they risk any little thing becoming an issue and getting them fired but if they don’t interact with women they also get fired. Can’t win.

What surprises me l, though it shouldn’t, is she feels entitled to his attention. Telling him to smile it delightfully ironic given how women say they are sick of men telling them to smile

If you are at your job, using your work computer, posting on the internet about how the women/men/blacks/gays/Asians/goblins in your field only get hired to fulfill diversity quotas, and you get caught, HR is right to fire you. You are a liability.
