Ok, so hear me out, because I have a point. I think this idea is good-natured and I understand where it's coming from, but I think I have a better and more appropriate idea: Put them on a false accuser list. That way, if they ever try that shit again, they can be cross referenced and then prosecuted as someone who is a serial offender. It should be public, it should be searchable, and it should be something men check when they go to date someone.

The only reason I wouldn't want them on the sex offender list is because I don't want what that list actually is to be watered down. I want only actual sex offenders on there. I want it to continue to be absolutely repulsive. I don't want half the world looking at someone on the sex offender list and saying 'well maybe they're not actually a sex offender.'

There should absolutely be a registry. I just don't think the two lists should be the SAME list.

I very strongly agree that those who cry rape when it's false should be on a sex offender register, as it's absolutely a sexual offense. However, I feel like whoever made this petition shot the petition in the foot right out of the gate by saying that the petition is specifically about "women who lie". Don't we think that men should also be treated as sexual offenders if they lie about someone raping them?

Yes, making this about women might be the more /r/ppd way to phrase it, but if they'd said "people who lie", making it about anyone who lies about this stuff rather than just women, it might have been taken seriously. As it is, people will use the perception of sexism to make people ignore it.

someone being found not-guilty of rape
doesn't mean the accusation was false

In order to convict someone you need evidence. Quite often there is no evidence; or it is he-said she-said.

Just because there is no evidence doesn't mean the accuser is lying.

you need evidence to convict someone of rape
and you need evidence to convict someone of making a false statement

And if a statement couldn't be proven true doesn't mean that it's false.

Evidence.

Bonus: Schools, universities, and sports teams should not be able to suspend any employee or student simply because of an accusation.

they do not have subpoena power
they cannot put people under oath

Leave law enforcement to the professionals.

It’s true that there should be way harsher punishment for these people, and maybe even a registry, but they don’t belong on the sex offenders list.

It seems fitting because of the nature of their lies, but they aren’t sexual predators in a direct sense, just attention seekers. So putting them on the registry would take away from the registry itself, which is important.

Its a sexual crime. Even if the man is cleared, a false rape accusation can quite literally ruin his life. Rape is horrible and rapists need to be locked up for it. I don't condone rape, but ruining someones life with a false accusation is not only damaging to the male victim, its damaging to women who actually are raped and aren't taken seriously because these scumbags tried to use sex to get what they want. This is misguided IMO. We don't need more people who didn't assault anyone on the on the sex offenders list. I'd sign a petition to get people who were caught pissing in public off that list. No one needs to be on it except actual sex offenders. Diddlers, rapists, pimps maybe, etc. Lying about rape is not a sex crime, it is an extremely serious form of slander in addition to filing false statements with police, which should be heavily punished by the justice system. But lets not go crazy and start labeling things under inaccurate sections as a retaliation measure against the current systems lack of action on the issue.

The penalties for this sort of shit need to increase drastically, but an egregious lie that destroys someones life is still not a sex crime.

edit: since you'd rather downvote than talk about it, here is a further response;

Multiple reasons.

It could be its own criminal law. No reason not to make a specific law about a specific crime.

Sex Offender lists already have issues with soft area laws; adding to this will make it worse. An example would be peeing in a closed playground after hours could land you on the sex offender list.

Consent laws are already hazy, adding a permanent list to it is a recipe for abuse and disaster.

Adjacent crimes could then qualify for sex offenders list, so its a slippery slope. Lying about having sex with someone, for example.

People who were forced into non consensual sex now need to weigh reporting their attackers verses potentially ending up on a permanent list.

Being on the sex offender list destroys a life and cast someone in a light they should not be in.

Justice is about being fair, not eye for an eye; If you want justice, make a petition to fix the way we handle "rape / sexual assault" claims and how a man is perceived if claimed against. Fix how police and lawyers act and give the man a fair trail beyond "Words".

Fix the actual sentence a false claim gets to be FAIR to the crime it self and not "revenge because OMG the guy suffered so should she!"

The sex offenders list is misused enough already. Public nudity, sex, or urination will get you on that. It should only be for rapists and molesters.

I'm all for expanding the punishment for fake accusers. Massive fines, civil consequences to the victims, and stiff prison time, absolutely. But making that list even more watered down and polluted than it already is isn't the answer.
