What I find ridiculous is that they claim "a few minor side-effects" made them stop the study. Since when do a few minor side-effects discourage pharmaceutical companies? A look at any average, run off the mill, medication proves that this is bullshit. Regardless of gender.

Either the side-effects were very serious or the company realized their product wouldn't be competitive against what others have in development...

I actually read the study's paper about the trial. Of the ~300 participants, there were a 8 severe reactions, and many more with less severe issues. Muscle soreness, injection site pain, and changes in libido were the most commonly adverse effects (AE) directly associated to the trial. Most participants reported 1 or more AEs... Despite that, over 75% said they were willing to continue if this became available.

It is a good start, but has some pretty common issues. Hope to see improvements made to this in the future

Does this woman not realize that there are about 10 different types of birth control she's free to use? If one options fucks your shit up, use something else. Maybe that's why, according to our author, men don't know anything about birth control-- because we only have one option.

This is like the equivalent of a man in the 1800's saying it's bullshit that one of the 15 occupations available to him is a coal miner, which he doesn't personally want. Lol, women are such whiners, once a group of 20 women were taken down to the mine for a day and 2 of them left! As for myself, I'm a shop manager, but those women who are chained to the stove are such idiots for not being able to handle coal mining. They don't even know the first thing about mining coal or managing shops! Men have been mining coal for 5,000 years!

And then, just because why not, she concludes that it's actually women, not men, who are treated as the disposable gender. OK, then.

And as a kicker, I have known many women, including my sister, who were prescribed birth control years before they were sexually active because of the positive benefits of it. Pregnancy isn't even a concern there. The litmus test is literally, 'is my life better while taking this, or is it worse?' Seeing as a bunch of them stay on it, I think the results speak for themselves.

And in general, a male contraceptive option that puts birth control into the men's control fully, is something women are horrified about. They are used to having the control when it comes to birth control and now they won't be able to even poke holes in the condom or lie that they are on the pill, since it won't matter, as long as the man is on the pill himself.

Let them laugh. They'll cry last.

As a women who is unusually susceptible to the harsh side effects of birth control, I hope men get their own soon. Plus guys get tricked into having a kid when a women lies about being on birth control. Men having their own pill would help everyone.

I saw this topic trending on facebook, I got so angry just scrolling through the articles and individual posts. I rarely saw anyone saying that it's awesome that men have more options now, it was more "Men get birth control and don't like the side effects, those poor babies know what we women have to put up with every day :)" or "Finally I get to stop taking my birth control and if something happens people won't blame me"

There were even people saying things like "Thank god men have to go through the burden and responsibility of taking birth control now, it was so unfair that they could just use a condom and we had to take the brunt of the side effects"

I don't understand backlash against more birth control options (other than obviously the fact that a experimental and new contraceptive could cause bad side affects). But on a serious note that is revolutionary for sex. You can have two forms of birth control easily without a physical barrier. That sounds amazing and super easy. Plus if you do want to hook up , as a man, you can go into it with your form of birth control without having to fumble around with a condom that has been stored in you wallet (not safe at all)

I've been following this study and it really makes me angry. Depression to the point of suicide, risk of infertility after taking the drug, and a 25% drop out rate (started with over 300 finished with just above 200) are not minor hiccups in a study, they're critical issues.
