I had an ex that used to get so fucking mad when I'd explain that yes, there are some jobs that men are naturally better at. Also sports. A lot of qualifying for the Olympics in for males surpasses world records for females. She would constantly bitch about how professional sports are split by gender. I was like "Really, you really think men and women should be on the same [American] football teams? The first time most women get tackled she's gonna be taken off the field on a stretcher. That's assuming she could qualify in the first place, and the absolutely enormous majority women could not." Her response? "Well it doesn't have to be such a violent sport."

She literally refused to admit that most men are just naturally stronger and faster than most women. Wasn't having it.

I wish I was making this up.

I can't agree with the video's narrator claiming men should be paid more than women. What I do think is that they should have to meet the exact same physical requirements, which would likely result in more men than women being firefighters, soldiers, etc. But as long as they're equally qualified, men and women should be paid the same for the same job.

Station a few towns over from us got a female firefighter once. She wasn't even out of high school yet. (She attended a program where you completed your basic firefighting competencies over the course of two yours in High School).

They were given money and grants to build a change room and private amenities for her, despite needing that money for actual essential stuff. Like a non-leaking roof. And proper locks on the doors. And a place to store stuff that doesn't need to always be on a truck or vehicle, among other things.

Anyway she quit once she finished high school, which was barely 12months after she finished probation and that change room is now their new storage room.

Roof still leaks, last I heard.

EDIT: spoke to someone in the group last night and turns out they got a whole new building made last year. So I guess it all worked out.

As a firefighter this video is fuckin stupid. We do not throw our bodies into a door to break it down. We have multiple tools and tactics to force entry into a building. I agree that women should be held at same standard and most are, but this is stupid.

Fanzillo brings up some good points for why men should be paid more than women in physically demanding jobs: 'Greater efforts, greater abilities & greater risks'. Each of these are due to a man's superior physical abilities as compared to a woman.

I'd also like to add 'greater dependency'. The female firefighter is going to depend upon her, in many cases, stronger, bulkier and taller male counterparts to lift things she can't lift, knock down things she hasn't the mass to knock down and reach things she can't reach.

The argument can be made that there are those same dependencies even between male firefighters. That is true. But, the shorter, weaker and lighter men are required to pass the same physical performance standards of their taller, stronger, bigger peers. Women, on the other hand, are being given a pass on those physical standards in favor of their own lesser standards so that more women can enter into professions dependent upon physical abilities.

Okay, if you want to be a "fire fighter" that's fine, but let's be real about the role you play in the squad, maybe your running hoses or cleaning the truck, or cleaning the fire house, there are jobs associated with fighting fires that woman can do. But as far as fighting fires, hell no and this goes for a lot of jobs in the world! I'm sorry but there is a difference between the sexes and there is nothing wrong with that at all! Play to your strengths!

Women's tennis is another example of pandering to the politically correct lobby. For years, professional women complained that their prize money at grand slam events such as Wimbledon was less than men's. Yet women only play 3 sets, as opposed to men's 5, and generally their play is slower and less entertaining as men's. A lot of women's matches finish 6-2, 6-2 (or similar). If the women's tournament was held at separate times than the men's, viewing figures would be less. Yet they now earn the same.

After HS, I wanted to join the air force's pilot program but my vision wasn't perfect enough, and I was too tall. I didn't expect the AF to build special planes for taller people with shittier vision, and women shouldn't expect the fire houses, armed services, or police to lower their standards just for them.

You never use your shoulder for breaking down doors. You preferably use an axe or your foot if there are no tools. The testing environment is biased against using your foot, because of the weight distribution. The video is pretty stupid.

Had a man and woman EMT come to my house to take me to the hospital. I was 36 hours out of an ACL, MCL reconstruction and in no condition to move around. They were not willing to carry me on a stretcher down a set of stairs because they feared they wouldn't be able to support the weight. I was 210Lbs at the time and almost blacked out at the bottom after taking myself down. We informed the service of my situation and requirements for aide. Women are unfit for heavy lifting jobs most of the time. I was unimpressed with the attitude I got as well.

I enjoy this subreddit and agree with most of the content. This a topic I understand well and as such will not stand by whilst the misleading information presented in this video smears my colleagues and friends. No one in the fire service is calling for the things the narrator of the video is calling for.

A person that passes the entrance exam into the fire service and earns their place on a frontline appliance, deserves that place. We have our capabilities and fitness checked robustly and often. Failure in either aspect results in an improvement plan, failing your improvement plan results in termination of contract. Fact.

Organisations have equality quotas and rules to abide by but this is NEVER carried out at the expense of safety to the public and to the watch. If YOU worked with someone that was incompetent at their job, YOU would not tolerate it and neither do WE.

The fact is that men still largely make up the majority of front line fire crews with women still occupying more of the supporting roles. The fact remains that the women riding the appliances keeping you safe tonight are ready, willing and able to carry out their role to the best of their ability. We wouldn't have it any other way!

I like how the video's author solution is NOT to pay more capable more because they are more valuable to an organization, whether thats a fire department, police department, military, etc

No its to pay ALL men more because men on average are more capable than all women at these highly physically demanding jobs.

Why not make it so that the most capable people, regardless of if they are men or women, get paid more rather than having the fat ass slob of a dude who works there get paid more because other men are stronger and the extremely capable woman who works there get paid less because other women are weaker?

Around here where I live females get an easier physical fitness test. Literally, it's laid out on the website and shows they need to do less situps, push-ups and have more time to do the mile and a half run.

How that's not blatant discrimination is beyond me. A criminal won't "take it easy" on a cop because of their genders. They won't run slower, not try as hard to escape, pull punches, etc because a cop is a female.

All female cops aren't bad, and I've seen the ones who are very serious about their job, staying physically fit even up until retirement.

When I went through the fire Academy the women didn't get (as far as I know) anything easier. Then again, that was volunteer, so there was no unions involved that probably complain about it in paid services.

Other people have pointed out that this isn't a great measure of a firefighter's ability to get through a door and maybe I'm reading too much into this but it doesn't seem like she's too weak to do it.

It looks like she's more afraid of hurting herself. If she got a good running start, jumped and balled up to hit the "door" closer to the top I'm sure it would tip over.

I won't generalize too much on how risk averse women are but for sure this particular firefighter seems hesitant to put her body on the line. Maybe she'd act differently if a person was in actual danger.

My father served in the army, and he would fucking destroy women that tried to debate him on the topic that women should be allowed in infantry positions. I remember this one time, this one feminazi at the college we were attending was so adamant that she could be on the front lines she took my dad's bet that she could drag his 215 pound body 50 feet when he has plate steel Ar500 body armor, a 50 pound rutsack and 6 full mags for his AR-15 in his vest and his AR-15 fully loaded. We went out to a shooting range and he said if she does not drag him the 50 feet by the time he goes through the mags he has on him, she fails. She got only 20 feet before she tired out and he finished firing his gun. She then tried to say this is why women who want to join can use steroids if they need to! Fucking bitch didn't even realize that would be unfair for military servicemen across all branches.

I LOVE MEAT! I love cooking it, eating it, smoking it, mincing it. I practice at home on any cut I can get my hands on. The best thing so far has been a whole kangaroo torso (I was particularly proud of the way I took off the tenderloins) I only stabbed myself once!

I know all the cuts of steak and my customers appreciate someone who can answer the questions and takes interest in their recipes.

Cooking meat for me requires my fire pit. I use fresh herbs I grow to season and take extra care in the temperature of the fire. I did a marinated pork belly .. With a sticky sweet/soy glaze over an open fire... Oh my god I ate the whole thing myself.

No I just use my strength differently. By letting me do thing my own way my boss realised that I'm really productive. I'm the one he calls on when he needs shit done. I'm the one he turns to cause he knows I'll slam that shit out fast.

I work with the boys and I feel like I have to prove myself again and again cause I'm not as strong as them so I let it drive me to give 150% every time cause the one time I screw up the boys are like "she's a woman knew she couldn't do it"

See I work in the meat department of a supermarket. Now the guys can lift a 30kg box of steak no worries. Me? I will admit it's hard and while I can do it, it's no where near as easily at the blokes...

Now we have trollies for carting boxes of meat and we load up maybe 12 boxes to a trolley. The guys pack their 30kg boxes and I load mine up with boxes weighing 10 - 15 kg. Now while the guys are there "impressing" me with their giant muscles I'm doing two trollies in the time it takes them to do one.

Now I may not be able to lift as much as them but I'm still lifting roughly the same weight.

Point of my story is that I may be going about it differently but my strength is still equal.

What about if there is a scared child in a tight spot, afraid to come out, that a smaller women can get to but a man can't? Children who are afraid will probably run to a female before a male as well. Coaxing, I mean. There are a lot of factors not discussed here.
