boggles my mind as well, I also linked over 10 articles from the sub about how men get the shaft and they deemed them "isolated incidents"

The maths blatantly shows the opposite though as we know and even if they were isolated, the fact that they think it should be ignored says a lot about how little they care about men.

Facebook is an echo chamber of lies and half-truths. If that's your only source of online information, I'm not sure you'd be able to be anything but ignorant.

[–]EmCeeMultiple 49 points50 points51 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
They just don't think that men have as much credibility to stand up for their rights as women do. This is where SHIT in this world starts.
ISIS can't face the fact that people have different views and religions than they do, and as they so strongly believe that what they say is right, they force the corrupted view that they have on their religion on other innocent people, why? Because they believe that what they say is right.
A lot of modern day feminists and social justice warriors these days have the exact same attitude and people like THAT are the problem. People with enormous superiority complexes who can't mind their own fucking business.

Just dropped by to say that ISIS are GOOD Muslims but bad people. They literally do shit that their religion teaches them to do. Which is also similar to feminism because feminazis are the extremists of the group and the "moderate feminists" either defend/support feminazis but don't do the shit that feminazis do or they claim that the feminazis "have got it all wrong" and it's not "real feminism" just like what moderate Muslims do/say about extremist Muslims.
[–]EmCeeMultiple 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, they aren't good Muslims either. They're EXTREMISTS. They don't even know what direction to do their five prayers to, and their version of Islam is one of the many variations of Islam. They're good, yeah, for their OWN silly standards. That's the thing though, THEIR standards, not ours, theirs, they should realize that, and adapt, NOT CONFORM, but ADAPT, as we live together in this world.

Obviously it's a just-so story, but we all have a bias towards the well-being of children; women by proxy. But for children, all gynosympathy would be acculturated and the result of sexual manipulation.
Since women have the wombs which incubate offspring, threats to women are threats to children are threats to the survival of the species. So when they are under perceived threat esp. by men, their self-preservation instincts take off.
edit: Why did this get drive-by downvoted. It's one of the few explanations for instinctual in-group bias of that capacity.

If you view men and women as one organism (which they are; remove one part, the organism dies), you see they each perform a symbiotic biological function.
women moderate, slow down, and collect energy. they are the incubators for children, and they stop children (and their men) from behaving rashly. they seek the collective, and they seek agreement for things.
men knock things down, build things up, get in fights. they push to have sex with women, they push to do new things. they go out and kill animals and drag them back to camp for the collective that is waiting for them. they are the individual first line of defense.
if a man dies, that is one death. if a woman dies, that is her plus any children she might have in the future.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Men and women aren't the same organism. The argument that if you remove one the other dies doesn't work. Do you think bees and flowers are the same organism? You need to revert to each individual being its own organism to understand why men and women are why they are.
[–]ThelemaAndLouise -4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Men and women have complementary DNA.
The analogy still works with bees, because we're talking a necessary part of life, vs something not necessary. Or in other words, benefit outweighs the drawback.
It also works because we consider personality traits that are influenced by bacteria with unique DNA inside us as us.
And anyway, this is a stupid conversation because I said if you view them as. And you said they're not. It's a goddamn illustrative point.

It's really a joke whenever this is the worst criticism someone can throw at you. They treat this sub like it's fucking stormfront or something. Someone even did a hatchet job on entering this place into wikipedia's page on controversial subreddits. I've been coming here and reading both linked articles AND comments for well over a year and I have yet to find anything legitimately hateful or backwards said here that wasn't downvoted into oblivion and criticized by other subscribers. The vast, overwhelming majority of the comments here are totally fine. They're anti-feminist and anti-establishment, but they aren't hateful and aren't even that controversial in substance. It's ridiculous.

they're controversial because they threaten the mainstream feminist narrative.
the world has decreed that men oppress women and men have it fine and dandy. a lot of money has been invested to keep this narrative alive. anything that threatens the mainstream belief is therefore controversial.

Generally, feminism has no problem with mens rights. as an ideology, there is enough rooms for the sides. There can be some issues you can be feminist about, there are some issues you can be mens rights about.
The problöem is that when you take one look at feminism, you don't see this ideology. You see "feminism or bust, feminism in all areas of life, feminism uber alles. ". You see a feature creep. You have feminist daycare, feminist school policy, feminist book clubs, ect. Things that have no business being feminist suddenly are feminist. Kind of like ophras bookclub.
Now, as a rule, you'd think if they allow that for themselves, they would allow that for their co theorists.
This is where the clash happens.
The general idea of the clash can be best demonstrated when yopu take a fitness gymn.
The feminist narrative now goes, it is hard for women to work out, so we demand on the prime hours, the gymn institute a womens hour, where the gymn is women only.
Now, aside from all things, the mens narrative goes, allright, we get 3 days, you get 3 days, the last day of the week is an offday. because hell, Mens only workout hours sound bitching.
Only now feminism goes "This is what we are talking about, glass ceiling, women excluding, sexist, barbarist, boys only club"
Now, this is the clash. Feminism demands for itself what it is unwilling to give to other ideologies. because quite frankly, if I right now asked, men , would you be willing to agree to womens only hours if in return we had mens only hours at the gymn, you would find a general agreement. BUT, it would be excluding women, so....
An other example would be usual feminist club at university that wants to take over LGBTQ+ matters. You would think, hell, mens rights wan ts to support those matters as well, awesome, two people who work for this. Instead, you get the general message, we are sorry, only one club at a time, plus you are anti feminist, meanimng not a feminist, so you can not be pro LGBTQ+.
The ONLY difference I see between mens rights and feminism is in mens rights, you can be a good person if you do not adhere to mens rights. you can be awesome, freaky, you can be an idol to millions, you can have decided against mens rights, they are cool with that. It is not for everybody.
However, if you look at feminism, you are essentially not a good person if you are not feminist. And they generally disagree to provide any not good person with anything they don't have to.
[–]Saintmyname 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've always found it interesting how they simultaneously argue for female only spaces while arguing against male only spaces.
Or how they can argue for equality in all things but against equal punishment for crimes.
Or how they espouse that women don't need men for money and then argue against capped alimony.
Or how they argue that a man is responsible for his children then deny him the right to see them.
Basically, feminism is a bunch of contradictory ideas called a movement.
You know what's funny? I've never been married or had kids and women constantly tell me I should. Men tell me I've got the world figured out.

I was referring to being denounced as unattractive, single, bitter over being single, etc.
And having members of their own sex denounce them to win brownie points from the opposite sex.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 9 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link
Can't vote, own property after marriage, hold certain jobs -- That's how feminists and women in general were treated in the early 1900s.
So therefore to say that MRAs today are treated as feminist were in the 1900s is beyond laughable and why no one takes your lot seriously.
Is that clearer to you now?
"I was referring to being denounced as unattractive, single, bitter over being single, etc.
And having members of their own sex denounce them to win brownie points from the opposite sex."
That's how feminists were treated in 1900? Any citations for that?
But let's follow your logic. If women today who aren't feminists denounce women who are feminists, why would men need to denounce MRAs to get attention from women? According to you most women don't even like feminists. Not following this one.

It was clever the first time.

I seriously just posted a series of cartoons that showed how feminists were dismissed by critics in the early 1900s to back my claim of how feminists were dismissed by critics in the early 1900s.
Level with me, did you actually read the entirety of any comment on this thread?
[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Wow. I haven't seen such clever gymnastics since the Olympics.
Bottom line, show me some factual evidence to back up your claim that:
feminists were reviled in the early 1900s because of their looks or martial status
feminists in the early 1900s in the aggregate were in fact ugly and unmarried
You gotta do better than cartoons as proof.
[–]miroku000 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link
The political cartoons from that era were proof that some people were reviling them for exactly these reasons. Do you believe the comics are forgeries? Are are you arguing that in fact feminism was widely accepted in the early 1900s and these comics were not indicative of the time? From the evidence presented thus far, you are losing the argument pretty badly. He has presented pretty concrete evidence proving his point. And you don't like it because it is in the form of political cartoons? But you have given no basis for objecting to why anti-feminist political cartoons from that era wouldn't represent what anti-feminists from that era were saying about feminists. Here is a paper that puts political cartoons in context and shows that they are representative of the views of traditionalists about feminists and so-called "new women" http://digitalcommons.calpoly.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1068&context=forum
[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Here's what I'm arguing:
Cartoons are not scholarship. That should be obvious. They can be funny satirical takes on current events, sure, but posting a bunch of links to cartoons he googled neither proved his point nor addressed mine.
Let's assume it's true that feminists were reviled in the early 1900s for being ugly women who couldn't get husbands, as he claims MRAs are today (losers who can't get laid/get women).
MRAs today are not denied their rights. Please don't give me the same tired list of 5-10 rights that women have that men don't that is 90% bullshit. All American men in 2016 can vote, can own property without a female co-signer and are not barred from any job as women were in the early 1900s.
In the early 1900s most feminists were women and subject to the same laws and practices restricting women.
In 2016 most MRAs are male. There are no laws restricting the basic rights of men in 2016.
So therefore, to say that MRAs in 2016 are treated like feminists back in the early 1900s is bullshit.
Having people make fun of you isn't quite an injustice as being barred from voting, owning property or working in the job you want. Wouldn't you say?
Tl;dr: if you want to debate who had it worse in life, 1900-era feminists or MRAs circa 2016, it's no contest.

The ideas behind MRM are dismissed as feminism once was, not that men are now treated the same as woman in the early 20th century. He was just saying that there are stereotypes associated with backing issues that men discuss on this subreddit. You just wanted to instigate and use his opinion based statement to make yourself look like Johnny on the spot and you basically just went full dickhead for no reason. Feminism was a very important movement during the period in discussion, women were treated poorly and that was a serious issue. A century ago the majority of people's ideals (especially in America) were based entirely off of the bible, which is very anti-female throughout. There are no female heroes in that book. Mary Magdaline was a whore, Eve was the first sinner. Woman have come very far since then and men's rights is a response to some modern feminism no longer pushing for equality but seeking superiority over men. I advocate for men's rights AND feel that feminism has been a great movement for society, we just need to avoid a gender war because that will only slow progress. I am sure you have hate to spit at me for this opinion so fire away.

Your POV that both men and women have challenges and problems that need to be addressed is both commendable and extremely rare in these parts. MRAs seem commited most of all to portraying society as one where women are all over privileged royalty and men are persecuted at every turn.

He simply wanted to play oppression olympics
No he didn't. I think you just misinterpreted his intention, and then jumped off into the deep end into a pointless argument without even understanding what he was trying to say in the first place.

I believe at this point he deliberately misinterpreted what I said. His repeated refusal to address anything I said is pretty blatant at this point.
But I suppose it's also possible he entirely lacks reading comprehension skills.
[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lol. You're all over the place.
I'm surprised you haven't thrown in anything about cis het privilege or rape culture.
I will take this criticism with a grain of salt in light of the aggressively demonstrated fact that you have zero reading comprehension and tend to fly off the handle at what you want people to have said rather than what they actually did.

This is true, white men OR women claiming oppression is total bullshit because our calls for oppression compared to African-American and Islam-American issues right now is laughable. I consider myself a MRA mostly because I feel like men get a bad shake in child custody cases and the like. To me the men who need their rights supported the most are the black guys getting gunned down by police on the daily and the political rhetoric that is isolating then ultimately radicalizing young Muslim men in America. There are men being oppressed in this country but it isn't many of the guys on here waving the flag of total male oppression.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
why do you think that is? Serious question.
[–]Hateslayer 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There are large communities that are all white and they have media sources preying on fears they have about people they don't understand and never had a chance to spend time with people of other races/religions/sexual orientation and had the chance to see that besides some cultural differences we are fundamentally all the same in regards to potential. This division keeps us from looking at the people with real power and influence as they fuck us all over. United we can benefit every member of society but divided we can have a few that collect all the wealth from our tax dollars/labor/whatever. This isn't just white people either. Every race is guilty of being very tribal for a lack of a better word. We easily slip into an "us against them" mentality as human beings. Now what the answer to this problem is? I have no clue.

Women were not barred from voting in the early 1900s.
Nor was there a bar on holding property after marriage. In fact it was the other way round. What was his was theirs, what was hers was hers.
Get your facts right.

I always have the same response to ad hominem criticisms like this: "play the ball not the man". Also try looking it up here.

[–]NikoMyshkin 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I hope not. i want to see more of what this goofball thinks. Also, how can we make progess if we cut ourselves off from people who hold vastly differing opinions?

I understand that there are some guys who give Men's Rights a bad name, but I have to say that this subreddit generally focuses on actual issues. Yes, there are guys here who are justifiably upset, and perhaps their rhetoric may come across as embittered, but this is not a 'woman-bashing' subreddit by any stretch of the imagination. I don't often see misogyny as a default attitude. I see fathers who want to see their kids, and men who don't want to pay for children who aren't theirs, and people who want to see rapists prosecuted the same way, regardless of gender.
But this person clearly has a preconceived notion of what is on this subreddit without having actually bothered to read it.
That said.... if you are sharing an article on FB, always share the article link and NOT the reddit link.

A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.
If you argue, you're not trying to convince this person, but people reading what you write. The thing about accusations like this is that they fly both ways. You can casually point that out for the readers and let them decide.

When Hillary got the nomination all I saw was girl power bullshit on Facebook. Regardless of opinions, and probably even more do if your are left leaning, you should treat her like any other candidate. Gender equality to me means her getting the nomination should garner no more celebration than had Sanders been the nominee.
Step one, delete Facebook. It's cucked as shit

She's absolutely right though.
Most people just browse here and don't change anything
You need to browse here and change your view on society and how it hates men, and how women want special priveledge all the time

Step 1: Stop being a whiny faggot
Step 2: stop being a landwhale
Step 3: now that you are not a whiny fat faggot, girl will consider tou a viable sexual partner and you can get over all this men's rights crap
