"feminism doesn't hate men"

[–]tramareddit111 86 points87 points88 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It is a good idea. All women should do it and then STFU about discrimination.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ohh, wouldn't that be a sight to see

[–]tuckeran5607 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Once they realise that they're gonna be paying a premium for female STEM grads.. since they are needed to fill a quota for Affirmative Action and diversity Quotas. We'll see how long this goes on for...

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Everyone should try starting a business at some point in their life, just because they can. It's a difficult thing to manage. Adding in any sort of quotas or other bullshit like that just makes it that much harder.

I just don’t understand why the feminists I encounter all seem to put down or make fun of men.

Those were the non-existent feminists, you silly girl! They totes don't real.

[–]calicotrinket 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No no, they are not real feminists!! Real feminists fight for equality, just like me, who wants all men dead!

[–]fengpi 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

THAT'S WHAT A FAKE FEMINIST WOULD SAY!

Real feminists are like me, who only want equality, which is why I want women to be able to freely enter and enjoy riding on every subway car while I want men to be banned from riding on some subway cars and be forced to sit in ways that crush their testicles on every subway car they're not forbidden from riding on! See? Simple equality!

How did that place wven last that long? There are legitimately no laws saying you cant have an all single gender business?

[–]Allevil669 33 points34 points35 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Most, if not all "all female" ventures end poorly. There were the all female, feminist, political lesbian "utopia" projects of the 1960s and 1970s. They were all unqualified failures. Then there was the all female business as linked by /u/prodiver. That went down pretty badly too.

Putting 'has a vagina' before 'has the skill set we need' leads to a business failure? Who knew?

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That only works in porn and prostitution.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's because 'has a vagina' would be before 'is the skillset we need'

[–]Lethn 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I don't know about actually attempting a business, but there was a socialist one that a guy tried and that ended in total disaster with the guy having to rent out his own house to even keep the company going.

[–]FastFourierTerraform 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You mean the one where he paid everyone in his company $70k, and then all of the competent people quit, and now it consists of a bunch of useless, overpaid twits?

[–]Lethn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Exactly :P

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

No, not exactly at all. His company is doing fine. His mortgages were a political statement just as much as additional income for "his political statement/experiment"

However, as GeekWire reported in December, no mortgages have been recorded on the properties. In a subsequent court filing, Dan Price acknowledged that his homes haven’t been mortgaged, saying that he “attempted to mortgage my home and rental property, but so far these loans have been denied based on the ongoing lawsuit.”

http://www.geekwire.com/2016/court-filing-reveals-gravity-payments-ceos-pay-and-companys-financials/ http://www.cheatsheet.com/money-career/the-70000-minimum-wage-experiment-reveals-a-dark-truth.html/?a=viewall

[–]Lethn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah yeah, you keep telling yourself that, it's always fun when anti-capitalists rush to defend a failing system.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

But those pieces did overlook the fact that Price’s experiment wasn’t really a failure. In fact, Gravity Payments was, and still is, chugging along. Even though the company did lose a handful of clients, it actually signed on even more — so many more that it had to go on a hiring spree.

And given that Gravity Payments is fighting in a labor pool for talent with the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and others — all with offices within a short drive of Gravity’s — Price likely would have ended up raising wages anyway, just to attract and retain talent. But he did mess with the market, and it caused a stir.

Yeah, he made some mistakes in his approach for sure. But click-bait bullshit ain't changing the facts, despite how much you'd like it to fit your narrative.

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that despite solid evidence that socialist businesses work very well contrary to your opinion. I'm not an anti-capitalist, you anti-socialist fool. Joke's on you. Sorry to burst your precious bubble.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Actually that's more in line with Anarcho-Syndicalism, also, 'worker' owned businesses are nothing new there a corporations and companies out their that give their workers free shares in the business itself and other benefits.

This is not a purely socialist idea, to act like it is is dishonest, also, what you're describing is actually more in line with Anarcho-Syndicalism where workers own the business and decide on things democratically rather than Socialism and Communism which always devolves into a dictatorship because somebody has to enforce the rules.

By the way, desperate attempts to defend Socialism are nothing new for me and one thing i've always noticed is when defending it people pick and choose what Socialism is so they can say the ideology isn't bullshit because one particular item that really isn't Socialism is happening to be working.

Oh and by the way, in the end you're still using currency to trade and Socialism and Communism are generally very anti-capitalist ideas.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're the one that indicated his business was socialist, when it really even isn't. And note this discussion is about socialist businesses, which you started, not communism or socialism in general, or as practiced by dictators. Enormous dissertations aren't even enough to cover it all.

people pick and choose what Socialism is so they can say the ideology isn't bullshit because one particular item that really isn't Socialism is happening to be working.

And you're picking and choosing which portion to attack or not, when in reality it is socialism. Worker-owned means of production is at the core of socialism, especially in its original definition. Worker co-ops precisely achieve that goal. They are socialist. Socialism does not have a single definition or practice anyway, so that attack doesn't work. Criticizing particular ideas is valid.

desperate attempts

lol. You know what's dishonest? To act like all modern nations aren't a mix of capitalism and socialism. Hell, with the talk of UBI and other things, the trend for advanced nations is to incorporate more socialism as they advance. Then there's talk of future robots doing work for us. Pure capitalism as wanted by the right-libertarian party doesn't exist, and won't exist, for good reason.

Interestingly, Marx's idea that capitalism must be first advanced enough for socialism to take over, seem exactly on point. And further, that socialism must exist to advance into communism. Note how dictatorial communist countries were not advanced capitalist countries in the first place. Ring a bell? Right from the horses mouth. That's not picking and choosing. That's what Marx said in the first place. And no, I'm not trying to defend Marx, nor communism. Just pointing out bullshit. Good try though.

[–]Lethn -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They are a mix, but unlike you I don't pretend every failure is not Socialism and every success is Socialism. Capitalism operates on the whole idea of businesses failing and succeeding because only the successful idea should work. Socialism and Communism on the other hand acts more like a damn cult especially nowadays I don't pretend any business or country out there that fails isn't Capitalist.

Also, no Socialism is not about workers owning the means of production, that's Syndicalism, Socialism is about the community i.e everyone owning the means of production and Communism is about the state owning the means of production.

At least go and do a basic google search on these political ideologies before you go on about them. Also, yes his business was very much Socialist, because he was implementing extremely Socialist policies that we've all seen before like fixing the wages and so on.

We see how people try to implement Socialism and Communism throughout history and every fucking time there are a bunch of twats who think it's the greatest idea in the world yet when it fails immediate excuses, placing blame on other people and a general cop out.

I hate and despise the sheer incompetence of it all, when you fail, you learn from your mistakes and sorry, but if you don't want me to criticise bad ideas, then come up with something better.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you want to talk about socialist businesses, then let's talk about Mondragon as well, k?

Everyday Misandry.

I hope Becky gets sued and loses her business.

[–]Lethn 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't worry, she won't get it off the ground in the first place because she has no idea how hard it is to even start one. She's also basically shooting herself in the foot by not hiring men especially if they happen to be really skilled and of course as others have said she's opened herself up to lawsuits before it's even begun.

I feel really sorry for this girl, she's obviously having to deal with this deranged lunatic acting as if she's some sort of monster or outcast for not joining in with the man-hating crowd.

I really do think that teachers like this who pick on students and try to enforce their ideology on them are a bunch of child abusers. Doesn't matter whether it's left or right, religious or non-religious, you leave children the fuck alone if they don't want anything to do with your off topic shit.

Feminism is a gang of petty bourgeois princesses sobbing hysterically that it is their turn to oppress the laboring class.

[–]Unconfidence 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I like feminism.

[–]Lrellok 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You like a group of people who are deliberately trying to freeze and starve men to death because they do not feel they should have to reciprocate anything regardless of what they demand?

[–]Mashiki 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like the part about feminism where they want to work the hard jobs. Eagerly awaiting to see the oil patch and mine workers...not to mention garbage and recycling collectors.

[–]Unconfidence 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The feminists I know do not advocate that.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Have you tried asking? Here is what you do, go to a meeting and state the following;"everyone who believes it is acceptable for women to work jobs without being obligated to feed, cloth and house a non working partener, please raise your hand". Lemme know if it is less then half the room.

http://m.imgur.com/NXyCio7?r

A capitalist economy is functionally incapable of producing jobs for more then half the people for any length of time. Every women who takes a job is a man who cannot work, if she refuses to feed him, he will unquestionably starve.

[–]Unconfidence 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

So what you're saying is that the economy naturally creates an equilibrium of jobs at approximately half of the population, and that this is an immutable law of capitalist economics?

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying you can show me a capitalist economy with an employment to population ratio higher then 60% for more then 50 years?

[–]Unconfidence 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying that asking that in a time less than 100 years after women were really introduced to the workforce (some might say they still aren't) is sort of like asking for a tree in a battleground.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Google "Lowell mill girls". Women have been part of the labor pool since the industrial revolution began. What they did not get to do was exploit the labor of others. Which is what feminism is demanding and why I oppose them.

[–]Unconfidence 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You can either say that there is a gender disparity in jobs and employment (i.e. men taking more dangerous jobs) or you can argue that women are equally present in the workforce. You can't switch from one to the other at your convenience.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One that does not have a double didget trade surplus, mind you.

[–]TamidMT 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are way too many covertly sexist teachers like this who have life-shaping influence over our children, boys and girls alike. That petrifies me, and comments like the one in the article infuriate me.

Also, isn't this "idea" blatantly illegal under the relevant country's version of an Equal Employment Opportunity laws?

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have a friend who is a small business owner. One day he and his co-owner wife laughed about how they never hire men since "they just aren't good enough with customers" even though their best employee is the only guy they have on staff. I lost a lot of respect for them.

Teacher needs firin'.

[–]cainunable 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

If this is the only time that the teacher has said something like this, firing is probably a little harsh. (Just because she is described as a Feminist in the article, does necessarily mean she spouts off sexist stuff regularly.) Maybe someone should probably point out what is wrong with her statement. If she has said things like this a few times in the past, it is probably time for mandatory discrimination training.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes she's entitled to her opinion but holding an opinion and sharing an opinion that promotes gender discriminatory behavior in a classroom full of young impressionable minds are two totally different things.

She's entitled to her religion too, but she's not entitled to push that onto our children.

Rubbish. This is a person with influence. If she tells her students it is okay for a business to refuse to hire Jews she should have that influence taken from her.

When you're used to privilege, equality looks like oppression.

Do people not get the sarcasm or just not appreciate it?
