Feminist friend posted this. I know it might not seem like a mensrights issue, but this kind of narcissism is what creates gynocentrism

You know gynocentrism is a problem when someone sees a message saying mutilation is bad and your first thought is "WHO CARES WOMEN ARE HURTING" and telling everyone on facebook and not "I agree/disagree".

Its like the very thought of men stating they have problems is triggering.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah it seems to be pretty standard behaviour. Anyone who says "I have a problem" the response is my problems are so much bigger then yours cause I'm female. Yes it is a contest.

[–]L0gic1o1 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't even think it's exclusively a feminist thing, I think that 'My problems are worse therefore yours don't matter' is a pretty pervasive and harmful attitude in society at large.

[+]wobernein -11 points-10 points-9 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

its also the same response everyone here had to her.

[–]Onithyr 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No it isn't. Her response to a claim about an actual issue is "your issue shouldn't be discussed because my issue is worse". Our response to her is that her claims are absurdly wrong.

Her strategy is to ignore the issue and change the topic.

Our strategy is to point out her errors.

[–]wobernein -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure thats what could have happened. Instead, a bunch vitriol spilled out. This is seriously sad that men are being completely disregarded and thrown to the side. MRA has a huge, uphill battle because society at large sees no problem. Yet everyone gere is a huge hypocrite using this poster as an excuse to spout their hate for feminism. Youre right, its different, but not that different.

[–]L0gic1o1 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just because circumcision is bad doesn't mean rape isn't.
Empathy isn't a zero-sum game, for fucks' sake.

[+]BullyJack -9 points-8 points-7 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck the downvotes guys. Don't be petty. This is the mirror facing back at us. We are obligated to learn from our shortcomings and be Human about shit like this. Not to downvote and circlejerk ourselves into what we hate. Let's grow up and be MRAs without everything having to have negative connotations to our issues. I'd like to see positivity in this movement. not bickering.
Edit; Or just prove me right with your downvotes.

ROFL the 100 million sharks slaughtered due to a threat to humans part sent me over the edge. :-) People EAT the fins.

Also the retarded math, that 1 in 6 women are raped during their lifetime. The annual NCVS reported rate for rape AND sexual assault (which includes "grabbing and fondling") for women over age 12 is currently about 1 per 1000.

Assuming flat demographics to get an order of magnitude estimate for the "lifetime" rate at 82 years of age, we get 1 - (1-1/1000)70 = 6.7%. That's for rape AND grabass.

Back in the 80s when rape rates were higher, the NCVS lifetime rape only (no sexual assault) rate was estimated at 8%.

As a reference point, in the same document the estimated lifetime rate for "violent crimes" (rape, violent robbery, and assault) was 83% for all Americans. Robbery or assault resulting in injury: 40%. Assault: 74%.

[–]Neovitami 41 points42 points43 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Maybe feminists are just bad at math? That would explain a whole lot, like why they keep bringing up rape as if it was an epidemic and the wage gap.

For example the "A woman has a 1 in 262,365 chance of being killed by a shark in her lifetime" just seems way off.

National Geographic report that you have a "1 in 3,700,000 chance of being killed by a shark during your lifetime" and also that 93% attacks are on males. Which means women have a 14 times smaller chance of being killed by a shark. The correct stat would be that women have a 1 in 51,800,000 chance of being killed by a shark. So they are off by a factor of 200, even when they actually wanted the chance to seem small.

[–]SideTraKd 27 points28 points29 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

They're not bad at math... They just don't CARE about math.

They only care about "The Narrative"TM

[–]Neovitami 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I guess you're right. I was debating this male feminist once here on Reddit, who argued that it was completely unacceptable that women had to fear for their safety whenever they went out partying in the night life of a major city, while men didnt have those concerns at all.

I kept bringing up stats(from Denmark, because we're both Danes) that showed that men were, first of all way more likely to be subject to violence and secondly way more likely to be the victim of violence in public places, by people they dont know and by more than one perpetrator at the same time. All he had to say in response, was that it didnt matter what the risks were for each gender. What only mattered is the way each gender feels about their safety.

[–]garglemesh42 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah, yes. Feelz before realz. Lovely how they believe we should give a shit about women's feeling, no matter how irrational, when they also believe that men don't have the right to have feelings, and if they do mention their feelings it is always "man up" or "you're derailing!"

[–]SideTraKd 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't you know that the patriarchy is to blame for men not being allowed to have feelings?

Did you not read the script?

[–]SideTraKd 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What gets me is that they're so close to a truth, but so unable to see it. The misandry is so strong in them, even though (of course) it doesn't exist.

Anyone alone at night in a major city, male or female, can be a target for criminals.

They actually think the solution to criminal sexual assault it to "teach men not to rape", as if western society honors rapists, or something.

[–]CzechoslovakianJesus 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it didnt matter what the risks were for each gender. What only mattered is the way each gender feels about their safety.

Then if we stop telling women that there's a rapist at every corner everything will be a-okay.

[–]augizzz999 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't exactly think they're good at anything except hypocrisy and bigotry.

[–]loddfavne 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

93% attacks are on males.

Males are 13 times more likely to be killed by sharks? The reason for bringing it up is that many of those stats about stuff that kills people is dominated gives men the short end of the stick. The reason I lost hope in all feminism is that they can have a stat like this right in front of them and fail to recognize that there are stuff men have to worry about too. Okay. Sharks. Not so much.

The feminist(TM) is sure to use the stats about primarily men being killed by sharks to show how unsafe women are.

Also, as pointed out in the post over that, we don't kill sharks because they are a safety hazard. If somebody is stupid enough to believe this they should educate themselves on the subject. Sharks are killed because we eat fish.

And, then there is that matter of male genital mutilation being kind of unimportant because women are raped. One thing does not connect to the other unless she is a feminist that means that all issues females have should be resolved before even trying to think about issues males might have. It's safe to assume that most feminists are against mens rights allthough they claim to fight for men too.

Miss. Information.

[–]Keiichi81 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I love the whole "I don't even feel safe enough to go for a run at night because I'm a wimmins!" line too. I see it (or variations) used frequently when feminists are trying to paint this picture of living in the west as a woman being like living through the holocaust.

Guess what, sweetie? I'm a white male and I don't feel safe going for a run late at night either! Not feeling safe to go running around at midnight isn't "Patriarchy". That's the world being a shitty place, and it not being safe to go wandering alone after dark period.

[–]sociopathwithrice 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That stat says 2.1 per 1000 (1.1 for just completed rape), so the extrapolation would be closer to 14%, though I'm not sure how accurate that would be since the rate changes through the years and risk goes down as you get older.

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I am aware of that. The NCVS does not say "completed rape." It says "completed rape and sexual assault." However the pink SJW poster says "1 in 6 will be raped" not "1 in 6 will be attempted-raped" or "1 in 6 will be attempted-rape-and-sexually assaulted." 1.1/1000 is the relevant annual rate to use in a calculation to compare to this poster. If you use 1.1 instead of 1, you get a lifetime rate of 7.4%. Calling it 7.4+-0.7% would probably be appropriate, given that the standard error in the annual rate is 0.1.

I used that source to show the declining trend. The most recent sexual assault stats are here:

http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=5111

EDIT: fixed language, added part below

I'm not sure how accurate that would be since the rate changes through the years and risk goes down as you get older.

This is true. That's why I called it an estimate. 18-24 yr old women have the highest victimization rate. The breakdown is not given, so one has to make estimates. Since the annual rate is so low, this is a good approximation. The total lifetime rape number from the 80s is 8%, though. I assume this was calculated correctly. There is simply no way the estimated number using the proper calculation today can be higher than this, given that the annual rate is now so much lower.

[–]sociopathwithrice 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh I definitely agree on all those fronts. In fact, I made a lengthy post on tumblr gathering all the "1 in 3" to "1 in 6" statistics I could find and examining how shitty they are: http://dickslapthestate.tumblr.com/post/123402753490/1-in-x-women-are-raped-the-numbers-where-they

I might bring it over to reddit, seeing as it's kind of difficult to read straight off the blog.

"Circumcision is bad"
"SEXUAL ASSAULT!"
This sounds like something that feminists would accuse the MRM of doing.

[–]Palpetinus 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Fuck your problems, we have RAPE to pay attention to! In fact, let's go a step further! I believe you circumcise to make your wiener less sensitive so you can RAPE better and longer!

[–]Keiichi81 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Did you know that 3 in 2 women will be raped during their lifetime?! I know it's true, because I saw an image on the internet say it.

[–]sociopathwithrice 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I saw that on my facebook feed and this was my response.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well said.

[–]Tmomp 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps she can take comfort that her risk of assault would be greater if she were a man.

[–]ErnaForPresident 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guys this is serious matters. Did you know that 100% of all women will die in their lifetime. This is why living life as a woman is hard

[–]Ultramegasaurus 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh! Now it's 1 in 6! It used to be 1 in 5. 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 are thrown around sometimes as well.

Feminists, please. It's basic propaganda 101: Be consistent!

[–]TheRealMouseRat 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She is actually saying that the cruelty comes from her fear of sexual assault. The fear is not created by men, it is created by feminists. In other words, she is advocating for culling of feminists, she just doesn't know it.

[–]ConfirmedCynic 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Only answer to all this whining is to make a country for women alone. Send these sorts there to build their perfect society; after all, every "single last problem is the fault of men". Watch them find out differently in short order. Hopefully they'd return with a better appreciation for us.

[–]Mitschu 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, we'd be held at ransom with demands of supplements and foreign aid, ostentatiously as payback / reparations for millennia of sexism, where if their standard of living didn't at the very minimum experience steady growth from our injections of cash we'd be oppressive, and if they experienced the same standards as before they left it'd be flat out misogyny, and if they experienced diminishing standards due to being expected to support themselves, it'd be literally a third world country worse than any other where men don't even have to be present to continue perpetuating hate crimes against women.

Don't give them a country or else the rest of the world will be expected to play big brother... literally.

I say give them a deserted crag, with a pistol and one bullet apiece, and cut off all communications to that island. Check back in a month later, see if any survivors are left and if they want to go home to the Patriarchy or keep on girlpowering themselves to death.

[–]Corn-Tortilla 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You had me until you said 'check back in a month'. NO! In a month, you parachute in more bullets, and socks. Why socks? Well because with the women gone, men aren't making tampons anymore.

[–]Champio 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Chairs kill more people every year than sharks do. What are we doing to stop this madness?

[–]absonous 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If it's so terrible just kill yourself and give your money to someone who will appreciate it. Maybe someone in the third world who is literally starving to death or scraping together tiny portions of food to feed their children and doesn't view life as such a "cruelty".

[–]Cannon0006 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Were it not for the bullshit one-in-(insert single-digit number)-women-get-raped statistics, I would probably be saving and favoriting this picture.

If it gave a more realistic rape statistic (certainly still more than 0.00005%), this would actually be rather inspirational, both as anti-rape and anti-shark-culling material.

As it is right now though... BULLSHIT!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Doulich 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now you see the thinking #killallmen comes from (its not actually 1 in 6, by the way, just like shark attacks aren't that common)... yeah lets kill all black/jewish/male people even though its only a small minority of them who murder/commit usury/rape.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No shit? Women are at greater risk from a group with whom they spend a lot of time than from a group with whom they spend virtually no time? Who the fuck would a thunk it?!?!

[–]beetle717 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps you should point out that the phrase reported rapists is not accurate. That the report stands only as an accusation and those men are innocent until proven guilty. An accusation is not proof.

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That infographic... man, what a not-subtle-at-all way to publicly suggest a "cull" on men.

[–]Lurker_IV 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd rather be sexually assaulted than mutilated. I'd especially rather have a 1/6 chance of being sexually assaulted than a 1/2 of being mutilated.

Not that I believe the 1/6 number.
